Treatment
Production: The Devils Helper
Genre: The genre of our production is horror; we preferred this genre as we thought
the audience would enjoy it. We have used a basic storyline which will attract the
audience, it will be clear that the genre is horror because of the generic codes and
conventions.
Duration: The duration of our film is two minutes as we are only filming the opening
sequence; this means that we have to persuade the audience to like our opening
sequence so that they watch the rest of the film. In this two minutes we will have a
various of different kind of shots to show the audience.
Target Audience: We chose to base our film on the age group of 15-35, as the
genre for our opening sequence is horror, so this would suit people from young
teenagers to adults. We decided to have the lowest age as 15, because it is a horror
film, so it will have some parts, which will not be suitable for the younger children.
We decided to go all way up to 35 years old, so that we get a wide range of feedback
from different age groups.
Outline:
The idea for our opening sequence is that 2 sisters (Samantha and Abbey) go for a
workshop which is located in a school. Samantha (older sister) walks off to go to the
toilet and Abbey follows her and stands outside the toilet leaning on the wall. She
suddenly hears a music and someone laughing, so she looks around to see where
its coming from, she sees a little girl sitting on the floor playing with a doll. Abbey
slowly walks up to the possessed girl, the possessed girl looks up and abbey freaks
out. The possessed girl starts to run away and looking back and laughing, Abbey
runs after her, she loses the little girl. After running around looking for the possessed
girl abbey stops to catch her breath, the possessed girl appears from behind, attacks
Abbey and ends her life. Samantha comes back in scene and looking for her little
sister Abbey, at this stage she's all worried and nervous, because she cant find her
little sister, suddenly the possessed girl appears behind Samantha attacks her life
and ends her life too. The title screens and finishes on a cliffhanger.
Character breakdown:
Manmeet: Samantha Edwards, aged 18. This character is a female who is an older
sister for Abbey, shows how she's not really responsible, very careless.
Eesha: Abbey aged 7 , little girl. This character is a lonely girl who is very interested
in dolls. She gets possessed because of the doll, and scares her sister.
Aayushi: A possessed girl, holding a doll, scaring everyone
Visual elements:
Lighting The lighting for our film should be quite low as the genre for our film is
horror, so it should scare the audience. We would change the lighting while editing
the footage; this would make it easier for us to find the perfect lighting.
Camera movement- the movement of the camera should be quick to create tension.
In some shots there will be some slow movements for example when the doll looks
at the girl, this will be done to show the importance of the doll.
Editing The editing should also be quick and sharp to create tension in every
scene. We will be layering the scenes and dissolving between shots, there will also
be shot reverse shot when someone has a conversation. We will be editing using
Final cut pro as it would be much easier to use,
Setting- The setting for our production will be set in a school, because the workshop
is located at a school, most of the shots will be taken in the corridor. We have
chosen this as our setting as it was much easier for us to film, and also because the
setting matched our genre.
Actors Our actors consist of Samantha Steins playing the role of Samantha
Edwards, Eesha Jeer playing the role of Abbey, and also Aayushi Oza playing the
role of a possessed girl.
Props- The props we will use within the production is a doll and an invitation. The
doll is the main thing in the film; this will be used in most of the scenes. The invitation
will be used at the start, this is just used to show the audience that they have a
workshop to go to. We will be creating our own invitation for the characters to use.
Costume- The costume of the group is casual, as in the scene their just going to a
workshop at a school,. The possessed girl will be will be wearing a dress.
Audio elements:
Music - We are going to have diegetic and non diegetic music. For non diegetic
music ,we will have score music in the background and also sound effects of a
child laughing this is to create tension as its a horror film. For diegetic music there
will be dialogues.
Effects (Foley) There will be non diegetic sound in the background to set the
scene. For example sound effects and score music when we see the possessed girl
with the doll. This is used to show the importance of the possessed girl.
Rationale: The reason why we chose this idea was because we thought the
audience would be interested in it . As the film 'chucky' and 'Annabelle' did have a
lots of views and many people did enjoy it. Which is why we decided to have a
storyline similar to them films.
Constraints and contingency: Some of the problems that may occur is if one of our
characters dont turn up, as we only have 3 main characters so they both have big
parts. We wouldnt really have any other problems with equipment or location, as
everything will be in school.
Budget:
Total -10
Doll- 7- we need to get a doll, which looks scary.
Makeup- 3- we need makeup to make Abbey (Little girl) look possessed, we will
make her look similar to the doll.
Food/Drinks - We will be filming for at least 2 hours, so its important that we bring
few snacks and drinks.
