1. What inspired you to come up with this design for the projects?
offered free advice on how to build in the extreme conditions that are part of what he called this
new reality of deadlier and more frequent catastrophes induced by climate change.

Community spaces are one of the basic building blocks of society where people
gather and participate in activities together. Through these shared spaces, collective memories
are made, creating a sense of home. Today, we have a wide variety of community spaces such
as town plazas, hawker centres and parks, and more are being planned for Singaporeans from
all walks of life. Increasingly, residents will see multiple community facilities being
integrated into one-stop hubs, providing more convenience while creating a strong sense of
familiarity and identity.

In my Ecological Urbanism Project I had a pragmatic approach to my design. One of my

reflections brought up the thought of a manipulated city with designed green spaces. Some
tragedy I see in this is: can manipulated and planned natural spaces be classified as real,
organic experiences? Meaning, when we plan to design living natural systems in buildings,
is this real nature or is this some hybrid ideology of our existence and application of nature
to our sense and style of living? One of the main ideas I had for my project was to maintain
and rebuild severed connections with nature, our potential, to promote both vertical and
horizontal movement and to have the possibilities of space not withered by program. The
exterior facade would simply be to restore as much nature as possible and the interior could
be flexible in use, program and invite a diversity of potential. As I approached my Biophilic
design project, I kept in mind the rising population; one of the biggest issue we face today
as a human race. As humans, we have to plan ahead for growth management, and I dont
mean Corbusiers Radiant City or City of Towers. Therefore, in my design, I placed
emphasis on green building, Biophilia, Biomimicry, health, interactive environments, multiuse spaces, circulation corridors and restorative habitats.

2. How can your design benefit the community living in or around it?

Passive, active, interactive, aesthetic, and gathering programs are the foundational
opportunities within the site to improve the community on a social hierarchy.

In the heart of the urban networks of Xinyin District in full development, the
AGORA GARDEN project presents a pioneer concept of sustainable residential ecoconstruction that aims at limiting the ecologic footprint of its inhabitants by
researching the right symbiosis between the human being and the Nature.
Part of the concept of inhabited and cultivated vertical farm through its own
inhabitants, this project of residential tower enables first to design by its avant-gardist
architecture a new life style in accordance with the nature and the climate. Actually,
the AGORA GARDEN tower superimposes vertically wide planted balconies of true
suspended orchards, organic vegetable gardens, aromatic gardens and other
medicinal gardens.
Such as a living organism, the tower becomes metabolic! It overpasses its energyconsuming passive role (absorbing all the natural resources and rejecting only waste)
to produce its own organic food.
As social venues, public spaces also help to strengthen social identity, as well as offer opportunities
for community bonding and building inter-cultural understanding. At the same time, public spaces
help to humanise the urban environment by promoting life outside of buildings. Public spaces need to
be safe and comfortable enough for people to linger. This often means having ample shade, sufficient
seating, good lighting and universal design. Where appropriate, developers will be required to
contribute public space as part of their developments.
Small or seemingly insignificant details can make a difference between an
ordinary space and a remarkable one. By placing greater emphasis on design
and details, we make a public space more engaging for everyone
The oasis is a point that attracts and brings together individuals, which can create
social ties in a soothing environment.
The link is an attempt made to rediscover the lost connection of humans with
humans and nature. . The presence of nature in these areas is equally important as
it affects the human psychology in a positive way. The link not only proves to be a
connector but it also breaks the verticality of the skyscrapers and thus opening up
more opportunities for recreation. Thus the definition of recreation is not restricted to
humans but also includes nature as an integral part of it. Including nature in our

buildings is the ideal way to insure both, the continuation of our modern lifestyle and
abiding by our more primitive needs.
3. What is the concept and style of your design?

The architectural concept is thus to eco-design an energy self-sufficient

building, whose energy is electric, thermal and also alimentary.
Therefore, the project answers directly to 4 main ecologic objectives of the After

will have two studio apartment blocks with a senior activity centre as well as healthcare services for
the elderly. The development will also feature community spaces such as a community farm and herb
garden, a large plaza and landscaped sky decks to build up the community spirit.

4. Why were the colours and the color schemes chosen?

I chose them according to the psychology of colors because of the mental and emotional effect of colors to
peoples around it..

5. What is the projects environmental approach in terms of design concept,

kindly justify.
The two towers are also designed to use a combination of passive cooling strategies and
active renewable energy production from photovoltaic or solar panels to reduce overall energy
consumption.
The best principles of passive building technology shadow and sunlight control, wind cooling
and shape performance have been used in Primavera Residences, said Arch. Nati.
The same architectural features that make Primavera Residences green also function to make
Primavera Residences typhoon resistant.

On this site that is the last and only biggest parcel of land for
residential use, the concept is to build a true fragment of vertical
landscape with low energetic consumption. The building is thus ecodesigned. It integrates not only the recycling of organic waste and used
water but also all the renewable energies and other new state-of-the-art
nanotechnologies (BIPV solar photovoltaic, rain water recycling,
compost, etc.).
Cradle concept where nothing is lost, everything transforms itself; all the construction
and furnishing materials will be selected through recycled and / or recyclable labels.
By imitating the processes of natural ecosystems, it deals thus with reinventing in
Taiwan the industrial and architectural processes in order to produce clean solutions
and to create industrial cycle where everything is reused, either back to the ground as
non toxic organic nutrients, or back to the industry as technical nutrients able to be
indefinitely recycled. Biotechnological prototype, the AGORA GARDEN project reveals
thus the symbiosis of human actions and their positive impact on the nature.

While it is bright outside, sun jars capture and collect the rays of the sun, storing that energy
until the sun ducks below the horizon for the night. For instant gratification, sun jars can be
purchased in pink, blue and yellow varieties. But for the brave DIYer, the same effect can be
achieved at home on the cheap. The project can be as simple or as involved as you want it
to be, depending on your skills and the available materials. One of the simplest
methods involves tearing apart a solar-powered yard light and re-seating the light inside a
frosted kitchen storage jar (or you can purchase frosting spray for regular jars just
remember to apply it to the inside!).

A cheap solar pathlight is generally the easiest to take apart, the core of which you then
want to attach to the bottom of the lid so it remains relatively out of sight in the finished
product tape should be fine but hot glue might be longer-lasting. You can make your own
color filter by cutting it from the label of a handy (soft or) sports drink or using actual colored
light filters, depending on how seriously attached you are to specific hues. With most lights
heat should not be too much of an issue, but you may want to check first and see how much
the ones you are using heats up when in use.

Of course, creative types with a bit of mechanical know-how could built a solar cell from the
ground up and attach it to a light, then mount it inside a jar in the same way. Again, this
depends on your proficiency and your preferences about spending time versus money.
Below is a video walk-through for those who have trouble visualizing the steps in the
process it is remarkably easy, as you will see:

However your sun jar comes into existence, grouping several of these little jars together on
a patio or porch makes for the perfect decorative lighting. The glow is very soft, almost like
the glow of fireflies confined in a jar just long enough to let you admire them.

Sick Science! Summer Camp Make Your Own

Firefly Glow Jars & Glowing Drinks
By Blog Editor: Susan Wells
In Denver, our dry heat keeps many bugs from living amongst us. Usually, this isnt such a bad thing. We
dont miss the chiggers, the cockroaches, or other bugs found in other parts of the United States.
We do miss the fireflies.

I always enjoyed visiting my cousins who lived in the midwest and catching fireflies on warm summer
nights. Since we cant do that in Denver, and I dont feel like driving to Kansas City, the girls and I made
firefly jars.
This is an easy activity that I have seen on Pinterest.
Most people cut open glow sticks and empty them into a Mason jar. There are two problems with this
the liquid only glows for a short time and glow sticks contain glass which breaks to release and mix the
chemicals.
You can make firefly jars that glow over and over again. All you need is a few Mason jars, paint brushes,
glue and Zinc Sulfide Glow Powder or Atomic Glow Concentrate.

Science of Glow
Before you get started, you must understand the difference between the Zinc Sulfide Glow Powder and
Atomic Glow Concentrate, or the terms fluorescence and phosphorescence.
Its also important to note that not all zinc sulfide glows, but luminous zinc sulfide does glow!
Fluorescence This type of luminescence occurs when some form of radiation, such as light, causes an
object to glow. For example, fluorescent papers and poster boards glow in the daylight. They glow even
brighter under black light (ultraviolet light). Ultraviolet light is a component in sunlight. Ultraviolet
wavelengths are very long with a very high frequency and can be used to detect fluorescent material
that would remain invisible under normal conditions. When you shine ultraviolet light on fluorescent
material, it lights up with a beautiful bluish-green luminescence.

In either case, as soon as the light is removed, the glow stops. Fluorescent things do not glow in the
dark all by themselves they require some other form of energy such as ultraviolet light to excite
them.
Under normal light, Atomic Glow will turn water a cool greenish-yellow color. Under a black light, the
goo actually glows an eerie green color. Atomic Glow is fluorescent and needs a black light to make it
glow.
Parents also note that Atomic Glow will stain.
Phosphorescence Phosphorescence is just like fluorescence, except that the glow continues even
after the light used to excite it is removed. Glow in the dark toys phosphoresce brightly in total
darkness after being charged or excited by ordinary white or ultraviolet light. Glow Powder contains

zinc sulfide and works by absorbing surrounding light energy and then releases that energy when the
lights go out. You can charge the zinc sulfide with white light or ultraviolet light from a black light.

Make Firefly Glowing Jars

First decide if you want to make fluorescent or phosphorescent glowing jars. Remember,
phosphorescent jars do not need a black light to charge the particles, but will need to be recharged
often.

Wash Mason jars.

Mix Elmers glue with a few drops of Atomic Glow (fluorescent) or a few scoops of Glow
Powder(phosphorescent).

You can also fill the jar with tap water and then add a few drops of Atomic Glow then turn off
the lights and turn on the black light. You will have a jar filled with glowing goo.

Using a paint brush or cotton swab, paint in the jar.

You can also let it drip and swirl in the jar.

Let dry.

Charge in white light (phosphorescent) or place under black light (fluorescent).

Glowing Summer Drinks and Ice Cubes

You can make cool glowing party drinks for your backyard bar-be-que using tonic water.Tonic water
contains quinine, a chemical that glows under a black light. Quinine was added to tonic water to help
fight off malaria. Tonic water still contains a small amount of quinine, which makes it a perfect material
for glowing drinks. Add a little Tonic water to your drinks, then place a black light behind them. The
drinks will glow in the night. Just keep in mind that darker drinks, like Cola wont glow as well as clear
drinks like Sprite.
You can also make glowing ice cubes. Pour tonic water into an ice cube tray and freeze. Add the ice
cubes to your drinks and place a black light under or behind them.
