verystableemotionduringthediscussion.Hedidn'tangryortooemotionifheisdisagreesomethingwiththem.Hetold
slowlyandmakesallunderstandaboutthesituationuntiltheendofthediscussion.Forexample,whenfirstvotedhad
onlyonejuryvotedfornotguilty,evenhevotedforguiltybuthejustkeepitaschallengeandsolveitwell.Healso

Personality,attitudeandvaluesofsomeonecaninfluencethedecisionmaking.Howallthesecanaffected,wecansee
inthissituationwhen1stjurorcontrolsallthesituationsperfectlyevensometimesitisnot.Hetriedtobefairandhis
attitudemakesattheendofthedecisionmakingbecameeasilyandconsistency.Stableemotionmakeshedecided
slowlyandnottoofollowangrymood.Heistriedbethebestattitudeduringthediscussionandiiconsideredassuccess
becausehecancontrols11angrymenatonetime.
Barriersalsocanaffecteddecisionmakingwhenemotions,attitudeandpersonalitycan'tcontrolledconsistent.An
examplewhen1stjurorbemadto10thjurorandsituationautomaticallythewholeroombecamedisturbance.Itisnot
goodattitudesforforemeninorganizedallthejurors.Itcanberoletobeforemenorhandlesomethingbig.
Juror#2:OssieDavis
Thisjurorismoresilentandeasilypersuadedbytheopinionofothers.Wecanseewhenmajorityofjurorsraisetheir
handforguilty,healsovotedforguiltybecauseofmajority.Butwhen1stjuryaskedhimtoexplainwhyhethoughtlike
that,hedidn'tknowhowtoexplainit.Hejustsaidthat.'itistheweaknessoftheman'.Hehadnoexplanationtodefend
hisstatementperfectly.
Fromthebeginninguntiltheendingofthediscussion,thejuror#2didn'tgivetoomanyopinionsandjustheard
everythingfromtheothers.Wecansaythattheemotionofthisjuryispassiveandsometimeshelooksblurwheredo
notknowwhatactuallytheyaretalkingabout.Anexample,when7thjurorhadaknife,situationbecamedisturbance
andhelooksnotreallyinterested.Oneofthereasonswhythisjurorbecamepassiveisbecauseofheneverbeajuror
everhislife.So,thisisthefirsttimeexperienceanditismakeshefeltfearalsohemoreliketolisteneverything
comparetotalkactive.
Allthesefactorscanaffecteddecisionmakingbecauseitrelatedwithourthinking.Whenwearethinking,automatically
itwillbeaffectedouractionthatgoestoourattitudeandmoods.Therefore,whenthejurorbecamepassive,hedecision
makingwouldbefollowedbyothers.Thedecisionmakingisbasedonmajorityofvoted.Sohavenoqualityonmaking
decision.Itcanbeprovedwhenthefirstvoted,helooksdidn'tknoweverythingbuthejustvotedbasedonmajority.we
alsocanseethathecan'texplainproperlywhyhevotedthat,itsprovedheisnotsurewhathedid.So,personality,
attitudeandemotionarethemostimportanttomakedecision.
Thisjurorhasmorebarrierscompareto1stjuror.Thisisbecausethehehasmorebadthingscomparedthepositive
things.Thedecisionalsonottoughenoughbecauseofthecaseisaboutmurderandnottalkingaboutthesimplecase.
Therefore,thisjurorcan'tmakehisowndecisionandthisiscanbebigmistakewhenhejustvotedforthewrongone.
Juror#3:GeorgeC.Scott
Emotionsandmoodarealsodisplayedclearlyvisibleandimportanttothefilm.Eachjurorisinasomewhatbadmood
duetotheheatandlackofairconditioningintheroom.Thisaddstotheconflicts.Atvariousmomentsinthefilm,the
jurorseemstoemotetheirfeelingswhensomeonesayssomethingtheydonotagreewith.

GeorgeC.Scotthasabademotionandhealsoinhighnegativeeffectofemotionalstage.Hisangerwefindthefacthis
son,whohefeelsisacoward.Healsomournedthedistancethathasgrownbetweenhimandhisson.Scottbelieves
thathissonshouldrespecthimthesamewayhehonorshisfather,andraisedwithanironfirst.Heneverquestioned
thatmaybesoshouldseetherelationshipwithhissonfromanotherpointofview.
Inmanyways,heistheantagonisttotheconstantlycalmJuror#8.Juror#3isimmediatelyvocalaboutthesupposed
simplicityofthecase,andtheobviousguiltofthedefendant.Heisquicktolosehistemper,andofteninfuriatedwhen
Juror#8andothermembersdisagreewithhisopinions.Hebelievesthatthedefendantisabsolutelyguilty,untilthevery
endoftheplay.DuringActThree,Juror#3'semotionalbaggageisrevealed.Hispoorrelationshipwithhisownsonmay
havebiasedhisviews.
GeorgeC.Scottisveryemotionalandthatemotionaffectedhisdecisionmaking.Thepainfulmemoryofhisown
inspireshisdecisionandasaresulthevotedforguilty.Hisangergrowsastheplayprogressesandseveraltimeshe
makesreferencetohisownson.PerhapsitisforthisveryreasonthatScottissodeterminedtovotenotguiltyno
matterhowconvincingfactswere.Heremainedstubborntotheveryenduntil8thjuryremindedhimthatthedefendant
wasnothisson.Bythepastexperiencepreventedhimfrommakinglogicaldecision.
OtherbarrierthatwillaffectthedecisionmakingprocessbyScottcharacterisselfish,overconfidentandthinkthatheis
alwaysattherightway.Becauseofhisattitude,othercannotcommunicatesmoothlywithhim.
Juror#4:ArminMuellerStahl
Astockbrokerheisveryeloquentandlooksatthecasemorecoherentlythantheotherjurorsthroughfactsandnot
bias.Itseemsthatthisroleisacharacterthatattentiongetter.Heissteadfastinthebeliefthatbasedonthefactthat
thedefendantis"guilty",buthedidnottrytopersuadeotherstochangetheirmindsforcibly.Incontrast,whengiventhe
opportunityhehasexpressedhisopinionMuellerStahl'scharacterwillrepeatinformationalreadyknownintellectually.
Hewilltakealittlelongertoquotefactsrighttimeandstatisticstoshowthatheisanexpert.
Theabilitytoremainindependentprovestobethemostimportantcharactertrait4thjury.Throughoutthefilm
charactersMuellerStahlisabletothinkindependently,andneverletpersonalbiasorpeerpressureaffecthisdecision
making.Whenthe4thjuryfinallychangedhisvotenotguilty,thisinitselfisenoughtoputthemindateaseaboutthe
otherpersontheirownindecisiveness.Heisoneofthefewcharactersinthestorythatdoesnottakesides,make
alliances,orlookforapprovalrightoffthebat.Itisclearthathewastheretoseekthetruth,andeverybodywilllisten
twicetomakesurehehasdonejustthat.However,tothinkindependentlyandwithoutprejudiceisnottheonlyasset
MuellerStahl.
Heisabusinessmanwhoisrationalandreasonable,whichallowshimtolookthecasewithanopenmind.Unlike3th
jury,GeorgeC.Scott,MuellerStahlisabletocommunicatetheideasandthinkinghewassuchaprofessionalanddo
soinanorganizedfashion.Heanalyzedeverypieceofevidencecarefullyanduseslogictoguidehisvote.Itis
importanttonotethathewasthesecondlastjurytochangetheirvotetonotguilty.Hetriedhisbesttomakeagood
decisionmakingandfinallyhechoosetovotenotguiltyfordefendant.
Thebarrierthatwillaffectthe5thjurydecisionmakingprocessistheenvironmentatthejuryroomandhehastodeal
withtheotherjury'sattitudebeforemakeagooddecision.Itisnoteasytosettlethecasebecauseeveryonehasa

Healthcareworker(possiblyanEMT)heisfromtheHarlemslumsheconnectswiththemanattrialandisdisgusted
atthebigotryofJurorTen.InitiatingHorewood'scharacterwasafollowerofthegroup.Hevoted"guilty"duringthefirst
vote,andthenshowedreluctancetodiscussthecase.Hecontributedtogroupbydemonstratinghowtousetheknife
duringafight,andspokeuptoMykeltiWilliamsonandGeorgeC.Scottcharacters.
Thisvitalinformationjurorgaveconcerningtheuseofaknifewhichhelpedthejurorstobetterunderstandtheconcept

Ahousepainter,arespectfulpersonwhosometimesdisplaywellprofessionalismandpatientact.
PersonalityHeisshowingastableemotionalstabilitywhichsometimeshecancontrolhisemotionindealingwith
numerousandvariousbehaviorinsidethejuryroom.Atthebeginningofthestoryheamongthelessercontributor(less
participate)tothegroupdecisionmakingprocess.Hegivesaquitgoodargumentbylookingat"motiveperception"but
thisfacthasbeenarguedasweakmotive.
Atfirsthevotedguilty.Butwhenaskedforclarification,hesimplyansweredhisevaluationisbasedonthemotivethat
heholdssincethebeginningofthediscussion.Hemadethedecisionbasedonhisfeelingandintuition.WhatIfoundis
heismakingconfirmationbias,whereeverydecisionshouldbeconsideredtoallrelevantanddependablefactorsand
notconfirmedfactorperse,whichexactlycamefromtestimonies.

holdshisconcretephilosophyofbeingpositiveandprotagonist.Heshowedhisseriousnesstodeliberatethoughtfully
andhonestly.Forinstancewhenhesays"Ijustdon'tfinditeasytoraisehandandsendaboytoprisonforlife".Heis
alwaysbeingattackedwith"dangerousbullets"fromthosejurorswhovoteddifferently,buthasshownanethicaland

acceptablefeedback.Hisemotionalintelligencehassuccessfullyclosedthebarrierofdifferentiation.Such
determination(nonguiltydecision)hasbroughttoanissueofredeliberationofthecase.
Atthemiddleofthefilm,hischaracterisreadytoacquiesceandwillonlyswitchhisverdict,ifotherjurorsbelieveguilty
wouldbethebestdecisiontobeimposed.Thepresenceofjuror9justmakethemoviebecamemoreinterestingwhere
hesuddenlychangehismindtovotenotguilty.Thisshowthepowerofinfluencecontributestochangeinperception
andbehaviorofindividual.Hefoundreasonabledoubtaboutthecaseandithasastonishedjurorno8whoobviously

McArdlewasactedbyHumeCronynistherealnameforhischaracter.Heisawiseoldmanwhofirstlydecidesthat
thekidwasguilty.Butlateronwhenheheardsomelogicalthinkingexplanationfromjury'snumber8,hissidesturninto
notguilty.Lastlyhebecomingfriendswithjury'snumber8,thathethinkmightbeagoodandwiseguy.Inthismovie,
thepersonalitythatwecanseeinJury'snumber9ishesuchanopennessguy,hehavekindnesspersonalityasa
grandfatherwhoistheolderinthejury'smeetinghealsocurioustoknowmoreaboutthecase.Forexamplewecan
seewhenhesuddenlychangeismindintonotguiltyashewanttoknow.

thepersonality,values,attitude,emotions
andmoodthatbeingmentionispositive.Thejury'shelptosolvingtheproblem,hegivestheideaandhealsogivesall
theexplanationforeverysituationindetail.Otherbarriersthatmightbeaffectedindecisionmakingis,feartobefailure.
Everypersonhavefear,becausesometimepeoplestarttorejectingagoodideajustbecauseitshowsthattheresult
mightbe100%failure,althoughitsonlycomefromtheirthought,butbecauseoffeartotakingtherisk,theytendto
avoidtheideathatmightbringintosuccessful.Mostofthereasonthattheytrytorejectriskisbecausetheycannot

Ultimatelyshunnedbytheothers,becauseofhisloudmouth,narrowmindedbigot,extremelyrudeandofteninterrupt
people.Someonewhofeelsthattherewillbenogoodoutcome,thisisatypeofmanheis.Lastlyhewasorderedby
jury's4to"sitdown"andto"notopenhisloudmouthagain."Heisjury'snumber10theownerofcarwashshopactedby
MykeltiWilliamson.
Mostofthepersonalitywithinjury's10isreversed,firsthescorelowonopennesstoexperience.Hedonothaveagood
inimagination,thathecannotimagineandcannotunderstandeasilywhattheothersthink,hetendtothinkthatheis
theonlyonewhoareright,hecannotexcepthismistakeandtendtostickwithhisanswers.

Otherthanthat,healsoscorelowinagreeablenesswhenalwaysinsultingothersanddisrespecttheelders.Hetendsto
showthathenotinterestedwithotherspeopleproblemandalsowithafilthymouthhetalkrecklesslyabouteverything.
Forexamplehesaysthatkidshouldbedestroyingbecausetheyalwaysgivetroubletootherpeopleandthatiswhyhe
stickstosayguilty.
Healsoaneurotics'typethatirritatedpersonandalwaysgetstressedeasily,wecanseeeverytimeeveryonechanges
theirvote.Invalueperspective,jury'snumber10isunprofessionalismhedoesnotknowhowtocontrolhisemotion.
Mostoftheattitudesthatheshowsisnegative,hehavearudeattitude,whichdoesnothavemannerwhentalkingto
someoneandalsodisrespecttosomeoneolderthanhim.Incaseofemotion,itisobviousthathesuchananger
person.Healwaysraisinghisvoiceandscoldeveryonewhenhisopinionisrejected.Healwayshasatensemoodthat
cangivehighnegativeaffectintotheatmosphere.
Intermofthisinfluenceddecisionmaking,yesitreallyinfluencesthedecisionmaking.Thiswillcauseunsmoothinthe
decisionmakingprocess.Becauseit'shardtofindthesolutionwhenapersoncannotlistenandacceptothersopinion
andalwaysthinkthathetheonlyonewhoisright.Itmightalsoleadtoafightorunspokenwitheachotherbecauseof
thisbehavior.Forexampleinthismovie,wecanseeeveryonehatejury's10becauseofhisbadinallthevalues,
personality,attitudesandmood.
Badidea,thisisalsooneofthefactorsthatcreatethebarriersintodecisionmaking.Wecanseethatsomeofthe
peoplecannotgenerateagoodideaatthecertaintimetheymightgettheirideawhentheyarewatchingtelevision,or
listeningtothemusic.Thatiswhythereisalwaysbadideaineverydecisionmaking,becausetheirmindisnotthere.

personality,healwayspayintentionineverydetail,forexamplewhenheaskingthequestion'whythatkidgoback
homeafter3o'clock'itshowsthathelistenedverywellfromjury's8opinionandtheories.Inadditionhealsointroverts
personbecausemostofthetimeinthemeeting,hejustbeingquiet.Heisnotanintegrityperson,whichhecannot
decidewherehestandswith,weatherwithguiltyornotguiltysidethisistheanswerforhisvalue.
Forattitudes,wecansaythatjury's11isnotconfidenceinwhathedo,wecanseewhenhelookshesitatetogivehis

wedoesn'tknowwhichoneisbetterthatcangivehighsatisfactiontous.Decisionmakingisalwayswithfull
