Attempt all 10 questions. All questions carry equal marks.
1. The world is going through a recession fonowing the financial crisis. Domestic
markets are being protected from input competition. Discuss these developments
in the light of the "Free Trade vs. Fair Trade" theory.
2. (a) Which article of GATT, 1994 covers the MFN principle? Discuss with reference
to examples.
(b) Do the RTAs follow MFN principle? What does WTO rules say on the derogation?
3. Doha Round is heW up due to the "Single Undertaking" clause. What do you
understand by "Single undertaking" ? Discuss with reference to the Doha Round
of negotiations.
4. (a) Many countries are waiting for membership of WTO. Who .are prominent
ones?
(b) China had to accept many conditions for WTO membership. Discuss anyone
condition in a note.
5. "National Treatment" is another key feature of the WTO on the lines of MFN.
What do you understand by "National Treatment" ? Does Karnataka have the
right to put VAT on "imported silk fabrics" ? Discuss.
6. Trade is linked to Environment. Sometimes Environment prevails over Trade in
WTO Dispute settlel11.ent cases. Discuss with reference to the Asbestos case or the-
Tune case.
