Hurricane

Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes in US history. It formed in the Bahamas in August 2005 and caused catastrophic damage along the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas through high winds and storm surge, especially in New Orleans where levee failures caused catastrophic flooding. Over 1,800 people died and property damage was estimated at $108 billion, making it the costliest natural disaster in US history. The levee failures in New Orleans highlighted major deficiencies in the flood protection system and prompted lawsuits against the US Army Corps of Engineers who built the levees.
