Homework checking

Teacher starts a short conversation with students. How are you today? Total Physical Response activity: Stand up! Sit down! Stand up! Sit down! Clap your hands! Stamp your feet! What was your homework for today? You had to write an email in which you presented yourselves. Now im going to collect them from you, chose several ones and read them aloud. Pay attention to my reading, because you are going to tell me who is the author of the email. The author is asked not to say a word.
Ill ask one pupil to get to the BB and to write down his contacts: Please get in front of the class and present yourself: name, age, nationality. Draw on the BB your identity card.

Introducing the title/theme

A pupil will get to the BB and will T-Ss write down his name, his surnane, T-S his age and his nationality. S-S Ss-Ss The student draws his identity card on the BB: My name is..., Im ... years old, Im Romanian. What else must we add? Students try to answer my We live somewhere, dont we? So we questions. must write down the address as well. Ill help the pupil note down his address: I live at no ..., on ... street! Todays lesson is about numbers, streets, addresses, expressing address and about directions and position in space. Please open your textbooks at page 10, where you have the lesson well going to listen to in a couple of minutes. X, please tell me, who is sitting next to you? Pay attention, class: Y and Z are sitting next to X. Is Y sitting on his right? No, Y is sitting on his left. Who is sitting on his right? X is sitting between Y and Z, isnt he/she? I am standing opposite you. I stand in front of you.

To introduce new vocabulary, to avoid any comprehension problems

Y is sitting next to me. Z is sitting T-S next to me as well. No, y isntt sitting on his right. Z is sitting on his right. T-Ss Yes, X is sitting between Y and Z. Pupils watch and listen to me T-Ss attentively, trying to understand what im saying. X and Y came in front of the class T-S(s) and stand where I set them. The other Ss pay attention to their position and to what im saying regarding it, in order to understand clearly the meaning of T-S the prepositions i use. A third student comes and stands between them, then moves according to my commands. (TPR) Ss look at the images and answer T-Ss my question. They read silently Iw the words written on top of the page, trying to understand their meaning relating them to the images. They try to answer my question regardinf what do people do in a bank, what can we buy in a record shop, etc.

To reuse the new introduced prepositions of place

So that these prepositions be more clear to the Ss, Ill ask 2 pupil to came in front of the class to exemplify them. Ill place them face to face (X is standing opposite Y), next to each other (X is standing on X is standing on Ys left and Y is standing on Ys left and Y is standing on Xs right. Ill ask a third student to come and sit between them, then to move to Xs right, to stand opposite Y, to turn left, to turn right etc. (Total Physical Response activity).

I think that the other words are clear, because they have the same equivalent in Romanian. Bofore listening to the recording of the text and without reading the dialogues, what do you think the text will be about? While listening, youll have to be attentive to the dialogues in order to solve exercice 2 (true, false). Cindys new house is in Tree Street. Yes or No? Cindys new house is number six. Yes or No? Listen and answer. Ill play the CD for the first time. Ill check the answers: So, is Cindys new house in Tree Street? Where is it then? Is Cindys house number six? What number is the house they tried to enter? Now listen carefully once again to the recording and note down the buildings mentioned and their position (left, right, next to). Ill play the CD once again. Which buildings are mentioned in the recording? Where are they? Where is the bank? Where is the record shop? Where is number six? Watch the images of the text. Where is the hotel? What can we find across the street, opposite the hotel and next to the bank? Turn the page. On top of page 11 there is a little map of the city. There is an intersection of 2 roads. Which are those streets/roads? What buildings can you see in the image? There is a child on Hill Street. Look at the map and say what is there on the left/on the right. What is there on New Road? What is

Ss take a quick look at the exercise 2 in order to be able to search for specific information while listening to the recording. Ss listen to it attentively and solve exercice 2, page 10. They read aloud their answers and correct the sentences so that they be correct. Ss listen to the recording once again, trying to answer my questions.

Youll have to situate the following buildings by using the expression we have learnt together today: on the left, on the right, opposite, next to. Situate one building in relation to another building/s. Ill give you an example: the record shop is between the cinema and the hotel/next to the hotel, opposite the bank/ on the right of the cinema. Do the same for the record shop, the supermarket, the restaurant, the station and the bank. Thats all for today. Did you enjoy the lesson? Was it difficult? Does anyone has questions regarding it?
