Types of tiles
Ceramic Tiles- Ceramic comes from the Greek term Keramos, meaning "a potter" or "pottery. The process of developing Ceramic tile is still very much the same, since the earlier period. For the creation of all ceramic materials, one needs to bake a mixture of clays at a very high temperature. A ceramic tile, therefore, is the resulting product, after a mixture of clays have been treated appropriately, pressed, fired at a high temperature and cut to size. A ceramic tile consists of two parts: the body, which is called the bisque and the surface, which is called the glaze. Many people like to use ceramic tiles to make flooring as it has many advantages. It tends to be extremely durable, and it is easy to clean, especially in situations where drains are installed in the flooring, it allows people to essentially clean the area. Ceramic tiles are also available in glazed and unglazed form. Some unglazed tiles can be custom-painted and refired to set the glaze, while others are ideal for situations in which porous tiles are needed, such as when making garden walkways. If you are interested in making mosaic with ceramic tiles, many tile stores are delighted to give you broken scraps as well. Metal tiles- Metal tiles are mostly used as a roof. Metal roofing tiles are very popular for its low maintenance, superior weather resistance and long life. Metal Roof Tiles look so much like clay or concrete roof tiles. Many builders and renovators use the Metal Tiles for extensions, renovations and house. Metal roof tiles are strong and weather resistant and act much better in case of hail and strong wind. That makes the metal tiles a superior roofing product comparing with ordinary concrete tiles. Mosaic tiles- The term mosaic refers to a picture or design that is made up of many smaller pieces of material. The original mosaics were made of materials ranging from terracotta and stone to gold pieces and glass. Eventually, pieces were created specifically for use in creating these elaborate pictures and the mosaic tile was born. Mosaic tiles are made from different types of clay. The different clay types are colored with different pigments and, therefore, the color is prevalent throughout the tile. Contrast this with glazed tiles---the glaze is only applied on top of the clay tile; if the glazed clay tile is chipped, the color will not show through. In a mosaic tile, because the clay itself is pigmented, the color runs through the entire tile (so the color is prevalent even if the tile is chipped). Mosaic tiles are usually 2 inch (5 cm) or smaller pieces. They can be squares, most commonly found in home improvement stores, or odd shapes usually purchased in a craft or art store. Today, mosaic tiles are popular for creating elaborate patterns like those found on backsplashes and entryways. They are also used for making tiled or random patterns on clay pots, mirrors and other decorative items. Their small size makes them an excellent material for assembling intricate designs and combining a variety of colors. When many mosaic tiles of the same color are placed side by side in a single area, the effect can be a very striking modern look. Vitrified Tiles :Vitrified tiles are made by mixing silica and clay to form a non porous tile with glassy texture. The main categories of Vitrified tiles would be Vitrified porcelain tiles, Vitrified ceramic tiles, marbonite vitrified tiles and marble vitrified tiles. The differences between vitrified tiles and ceramic tiles are that vitrified tiles are actually one kind of ceramic tile. But these are made after verification process and go through high level of refining generating glass kind of effect while ceramic tiles are made out of natural biodegradable and recyclable materials. Vitrified tiles manufacturers assure that these tiles are completely non porous and hence long lasting. The vitrified tiles cost for fully vitrified tiles flooring is a little higher compared to the ceramic tiles and so in many parts ceramic tiles are preferred over it.
