Structural Connection Analysis

The document contains two questions regarding structural connections. Question 1 asks to check if two different angle connections - one welded and one bolted - are suitable to resist axial loads. Question 2 asks to verify if a bracket connection can adequately resist permanent and variable loads in direct shear and torsion. Dimensions, materials, and loads are provided.

Check if al25 x 75 x l0 unequal angle in Figure Ql.(b) with grade 5275 steel, bolted (with a line of four lS nlm) HSFG bolts at t to mm centreg through the longer leg is suitable to resist a design axial load fiIo, of 4lg kN. (15 marks)

Q2

Figure Q2 shows a bracket resist permanent actior, Gr - 100 kN and variable action, Q: 120 kN. Verify the connection in Figure Q2 is aiequate if the connection is loaded in direct shear and torsion. Assume shear occurs at bolt areaa. Given;

what is the important function of connection in the structure. Determine and illushate 4 mod of failure for the direct bolt connection.

Figure Q4 shows a bracket connection. The factored load 2g0 kN is placed on the bracket at distance e mm. the bracket is welded with a plate size 400 x 200 x 10mm width. Weld size 8mm and 4mm is used. 6 bolts with adiameter 24mm (Grade 4.6) is used to connect plat and flange column. In the early check bolt is found failed compare to the welded conneciion plat at the flange Lolumn. Using class 43 electrode on a Grade 275 plate:
