Introduction:

Citrus fruits and derived products have a beneficial effect on the human health, because of its nutritional and antioxidant properties and their consumption is associated with a decrease in the incidence of cardiovascular disease and reduction of the risk of certain cancers and also. During the processing of citrus fruit for juice, peels are the primary by products and phytochemicals are abundant in citrus peels. As you would expect, pesticides, herbicide, and fungicide residues are highest on the peel of oranges. These compounds have been associated with healthy properties ascribed to their antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging abilities pheholic compounds and antioxidant activities in citrus peel have been widely investigated and they have been found to possess antiallergenic, anti artherogenics, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antithrombotic, cardio protective and vasodilatory effects. All species help move chi stagnation although all species share certain properties, there is some differences. Mandarin orange peel is an anti- inflammatory, cholagogue, carminative, diuretic and tonic, and the green or unripe orange peel is a cholagogue and carminative. The bitter orange peel moves chi stagnation and is a carminative, stimulant, stomachic, expector and tonic. Additionally different species have different uses. Mandarin orange peel catarrh, chest congestion, gas indigestion, green or unripe citrus peel abscess, bloating, breast cancer, gall bladder, congestion, liver stagnation; bitter orange peel flatulence, indigestion, stagnation in the digestive tract, tumors. Using the peels as a digestive aid stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid. The high content of bioflavonoid helps to strengthen the capillaries and tissues in the body orange flower water is used as sedative Meanwhile, mosquitoes are a family of small midge- like flies, the culicidae. Although a few species are harmless or even useful, most cause a nuisance by sucking blood from vertebrates including humans. Accordingly, some authorities argue that disease bearing mosquito is the most dangerous animals on earth. In our society today we are experiencing power crisis especially here in Mindanao, dengue has become very rampant. So we decided to make an investigatory project concerning about dengue and electricity.

Background of the study

Mandarin orange (citrus reticulata Blanco) is said to have an essential oil from its peels that is used as flavoring perfumes and in medicinal use. An essential oil obtained from the leaves and young twigs are called petit grain oil. Yields are around 0.5%. In

traditional Chinese medicine, the dried peel of the fruit is used in the regulation of chi and to treat abdominal distension, and to enhance digestion. All that mandarin eating, adds up to a lot of peels. As you would expect, pesticide, herbicide and fungicide residues are highest on the peel of oranges. The fruit, including its peel is used to treat allergic reactions. Another important part of the peel is that is widely used is the oil present in it. It acts as an effective insect repellent and is also used in the production of furniture polishes. The peel initially tastes somewhat sweet and spicy but has a bitter and pungent after taste. An insect repellent substance applied to skin, clothing, or other surfaces which discourages insects from landing or climbing or that surface. Insect repellants help prevent and control outbreaks of insect borne disease, such as malaria, dengue fever, bubonic plague and west Nile fever. Pest animals commonly serving as vectors for disease include the insect flea, fly and mosquito; and the arachnid tick. So, in this case we used candle as an insect repellant to kill mosquitoes that causes dengue

Statement of the problem:

This study aims to determine whether extract from the peels of mandarin orange(citrus reticulate Blanco) can be a good additive for an anti mosquito repellant candle.

Significance of the Study Using mandarin orange peel as an additive for mosquito repellant candle is a great benefit to everybody, because its cheap. It comes from a recycled raw material instead you threw your mandarin orange peel that ou had eaten you can use its peel as a mosquito repellant, especially nowadays, mosquito problems are very common. And also we are experiencing a power crisis of electricity. We can use this candle as light and to prevent mosquito from sucking our bloods.

Scope and limitations

This study focused on how to lessen the risks that are caused by the mosquitoes especially dengue fever that has been a threat to the people for quite some time now. We also focus on how we can let people be able to reach their needs in life, thats why we used cheap materials to create a repellant that would lessen the risks to their health

II. Review of the related literature

Citrus Citrus can refer to as a common term or a genus name. In general, citrus includes all species and natural hybrids in Citrus and its closely related genera (sexually compatible with each other to certain extent) such as Poncirus(Trifoliate orange), Fortunella (Kumquat), Micro citrus(Australian wild lime) and Eremocitrus(Desert lime). They all belong to the family Rutaceae that is in the order Sapindales, a sister tax on to Brassicales that contains Arabidops.

Hypothesis:
We can say that extract from the peels of mandarin oranges will help us to have a more accurate and faster means of killing mosquitoes, due to high acidity this can help as an additive. This experiment, will help to lessen our worries during brown outs, because we can lit this candle during brownouts.

Definition of terms
1. Culicidae - a family of slender long legged dipteran flies having the body and appendage spartly covered with hairs or scales and the mouth parts adapted for piercing and sucking, comprising the mosquitoes, and having active aquatic larvae known as wrigglers

2. Arabidopsis a genus of the mustard family having white or yellow or purplish flowers; closely related to genus Arabis. 3. Reticulate - the formation or presence of a network.

Methodology Materials:
Used Candles Candle Wick Mandarin Oranges Pan Candle Molder Container Mosquito net

Procedures:
Collecting Mosquitoes 1. First, we filled the container with water depending on the container where you will make the experiment 2. Second, we will wait until we find mosquito eggs (wrigglers) 3. Then, we covered it with mosquito net 4. After which, we must wait; for the wrigglers to fully developed into an adult mosquito. Candle with extract of mandarin orange peel making 1. First, we need to gather all the materials for the candle making, these are the candles and mandarin oranges 2. Second, we extracted the peels of our mandarin oranges 3. Next, will going to cut the candle but make sure well get the candle wick of it 4. Then, we will melt the candle in the pan with moderate temperature. 5. After, the candle has been melted we will mix the extracted peels of our mandarin oranges 6. Let the mixture, bend properly 7. Then, we will put our mixture in the candle mold. 8. Finally we allowed it to dry up.

For final procedure, after we have collected mosquitoes and made our candle, we can now test and light up our candle with our mosquitoes. If you cant believe in this you can use an ordinary candle and light up for one day at a

place that is full of mosquitoes and on the next day light up a candle with a peel of mandarin oranges (citrus reticulate Blanco) and see the difference

IV.

Data Interpretation

The effect that we recorded focused more on the concentration of the extracted orange peel. Candle1 has 20% of the mandarin orange peel extract and candle 2 has 40% mandarin orange peel extract TRIAL1 Mosquito 1 Mosquito 2 TRIAL 2 Mosquito 1 Mosquito 2 Candle 1 Candle 2

Observation

We have observed that our anti mosquitoes repellant candle additive from mandarin oranges is a good anti mosquitoes repellant because it kills mosquitoes rapidly. As we light up our candle, mosquito dies faster. The scent of the mandarin oranges helps the candle to be more effective as an anti mosquito repellant candle.

Conclusion and recommendation

Conclusion

Therefore, we conclude that extract from the peels of Mandarin Orange (citrus reticulata blanco) can be a good additive for an anti mosquito repellant. It could be one of the best products of the country for avoiding dengue if possible to be sold in the markets, it could be cheaper and effective with this great idea since dengue becomes very

rampant in our country. Every family could avoid mosquito in paying higher in buying repellants, it could be great to everyone as well

Recommendations
Based from the drawn conclusion, the researchers recommend the following; 1. Use other fruits in testing the efficiency of the given product 2. To test with more mosquitoes to see the range of the product used.
