Industrial land is underutilized and could provide much needed amenities for Ward 5 Delivering creative and sustainable uses for Ward 5s industrial land.
The Ward 5 Industrial Land Transformation Task Force
The Ward 5 Industrial Land Transformation Task Force is a concept introduced in the fall of 2012
The task force will address: o Nuisance issues; o Improving the physical appearance of of industrial sites; o Diversifying businesses; o Promoting green and creative economies; o and identifying opportunities to enhance community amenities.

Quality of Life for Seniors
In the FY14 budget, the Council allocated nearly $24 million to the Office on Aging
$165,000 to support the hiring of additional staff in Ward 5s lead agency; $250,000 to the Office on Aging to support ward-based services for seniors; and $95,000 to the Washington Elderly Handicapped Transportation Service to expand transportation services.
Improving the Quality of Life for All Ward 5 Residents
Providing new Supercans for everyone.
Introduced the Medical Marijuana Cultivation Center and Dispensary Location Restriction Amendment Act to limit the number of centers and dispensaries that may locate in a ward.
Implemented moratorium on strip clubs and strengthen alcoholic beverage regulation laws. Supported additional funding for Ward 5 BikeShare stations.
Preserving our Schools and Libraries
Moved FY 15 funding for Langdon Elementary to FY 14 ensuring school Provided input in conjunction with Ward 5 Council On Education to Chancellor on proposed school closings Initiated discussion with DGS and DCPS on Brookland Middle School and thwarted plan to co-locate with Turkey Thicket Secured funding for the modernization of Woodridge Library and renovation of Lamond Riggs Library
Solving a Decades Long Flooding and Sewage Problem
Ushered through the Flood Assistance Fund Amendment Act of 2012 Introduced the District of Columbia Fire and Casualty Amendment Acts of 2012 and 2013 Called for an interagency response that resulted in establishing the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park Flood Prevention Task Force Instrumental in the establishment of DC Waters Northeast Boundary Neighborhood Protection Project
