You will be glad to know that yesterday, we were able to start our new church with new believers. We cannot sing

loudly. These new believers are very happy to worship God with us. I am also so thankful to God that He is using me for
His Kingdom purposes.

Letter from The Chairman:
Dearest Friends,
We are the earthern vessels that hold the excellency of Jesus
Chirst. Christ in us is the hope of glory.
What an awesome Truth, and what an honor given to Gods
people by His grace! It is a gift that is unspeakable in nature.
The world is moving very quickly toward the end of this age
that The Bible talks about. It will be a time when all of the
tares will be gathered, and then the wheat will be brought into
the barn by our Lord Jesus Christ.
What a wonderful time that will be, as we see our Lord and
Savior come back to this earth in order to set up His Kingdom!
We are told to pray Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be
done in earth, as it is in heaven by our Lord. We are given
the keys to the Kingdom of heaven which is to bind what is
bound in heaven and to loose what is loosed in heaven.
Our Lord has given us everything, so that we can become
part of His Kingdom. His desire is that all of our loved ones,
and all people will be with Him forever.
That is why He died on the cross. He is the only Truth, Way
and Life. Come to Him today, and pray for the salvation of all.
In His love and for His glory,

Matthew 5:8, Blessed are the pure in heart: for
they shall see God.
Matthew 5:9, Blessed are the peacemakers: for they
shall be called the children of God.
4
24, And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man
with him until the breaking of the day.
25, And when he saw that he prevailed not against him,
he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of
Jacobs thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
26, And he said, Let Me go, for the day breaketh. And
he said, I will not let Thee go, except Thou bless me.
27, And He said unto him, What is thy name? And he
said, Jacob.
28, And He said, Thy name shall be called no more
Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with
God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29, And Jacob asked Him, and said, Tell me, I pray
Thee, Thy name. And He said, Wherefore is it that thou
dost ask after My name? And He blessed him there.
30, And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I
have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
31, And as He passed over Penuel the sun rose upon
him, and he halted upon his thigh.
32, Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew
which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto
this day: because He touched the hollow of Jacobs thigh
in the sinew that shrank (Genesis 32:24-32).
We were born into the world with the sin of Adam in our
DNA. So we needed a sacrifice for our sins.
Jesus Christ came into the world to redeem us from our
sins. Through Him; we are accepted and adopted into the
family of God.
Whoever believes in Jesus Christ becomes righteous. As
if, we had never sinned. We cannot achieve this ourselves,
and so it is a gift of God.
To live in peace with others; we need to be reconciled
to God. Young people have a difficult time with
relationships.
In apartment houses; people are having trouble sleeping
due to the noise level on the various floors. There are many
crimes committed such as murder, arson, theft, etc.
The apartment managers launched a campaign for the
apartment dwellers to speak to each other each day. In the
old days, neighbors mingled with each other, but these days
that is not true.
That is why Jesus came to this earth to reconcile man
with God and with others.
Isaac had two twin sons, Jacob and Esau. They were very
competitive.
In Israel, the first born had all the blessings. Jacob was
very ambitious and clever, and he had many gifts, and so he
could help his mother.
Esau liked hunting, and he was closer to his father. It is
the same today, as one son will be more like the mother or
the other the father.
In my family; there were nine, and we had many fights. I
think that my mother loved me more than my father. I miss
my mother so much.
People like those who are closest to them. One day,
Jacob had a bowl of lentil stew, and Esau was very hungry,
and so Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a mess of
pottage or lentil stew.
So Jacob was able to steal the older brothers birthright
from Esau. Isaac wanted to give his blessings to Esau, but his
wife, Rebekah, wanted the birthright to go to Jacob who was
her favorite son. She devised a way to deceive Isaac so that
Jacob would receive the eldest sons birthright blessings.
Because Isaac could not see very well; he was deceived,
and he gave the blessings to Jacob instead of Esau.
Esau was very upset, when he learned of the deception,
and he wanted to kill his brother Jacob. This brought a great
problem between the two brothers due to the inheritance.
Jacob stole the blessings from his brother, and he then
Church Growth/Summer 2013
Yonggi Cho
5 Church Growth/Summer 2013
worked for many years for his Uncle Laban. He was then
told by the Lord to go back to his native land.
Later in Jacobs life, God renamed him lsrael, which
means, He struggles with God. He was greatly blessed by
God. However, when Jacob was headed home; he heard that
his brother Esau was coming with 400 armed soldiers.
Jacob decided not to cross the river. Then, he decided
to be changed from a Jacob to Israel, and to meet his
brother and be reconciled.
Jacob wrestled with God, and his name was changed.
Jacob was limping, and he had trouble walking. Jacob
could now surrender to his brother because he was humbled
and had gained much wisdom.
He called the place Penuel. Now, Jacob knew who was
the master of his life.
Jacob called Jesus Christ the Lord and the holy One of
Israel. When you become a worm before God; He will help
you, but if you try to control your life; God will let you alone.
I changed my name from Paul to David, but now I have
gone back to my old name of Yonggi which means
courage. What we say creates our experiences, and so
things that are of good report are true (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Fathers, please bless your children because these
blessings bring great benefits to you.
Pray to God that He is the master of your life, and He will
hear you. He wants you to follow Him, and He will take
care of you, and He will fight the battle for you.
Jesus wants us to believe in Him, and to follow Him. We
do not have to take on the burdens in our lives.
Jacob left everything to God, and he became obedient
and humble, and then he decided to cross the river to see
Esau. Jacob saw Esau, and he bowed down to the ground
seven times to Esau. He showed great respect to his brother,
and Esau came to Jacob and kissed him.
Esau saw his brother limping and humbling himself and
so Esau took pity on his brother, and they wept together. All
the grudges were gone, and then reconciliation took place.
Surely, brothers and sisters, there will be a day when the
north and south will be reconciled. It will have to be by the
mighty power of God. We must be changed, and then we
can become reconciled with our brothers and sisters.
Esau came to kill Jacob, and now he was reconciled
with his brother. The secret in change lives is the cross of
Jesus Christ.
If you become a servant of God; then His blessings will come
to you. Curses will become blessings (II Cor. 2:5). God
reconciled us to Himself, and He gave us the ministry of
reconciliation, so that we will become the righteousness of God.
We have been given a mission, to pray for our neighbors.
Jesus paid the price for our sins on The cross. Our
righteousness and reconciliation is given to us because of
Jesus Christs death on the cross.
Jacob became gentle and kind, and he went from Jacob to
Israel which brought a wonderful reconciliation with his
brother Esau. His circumstances had not changed, but he
changed which brought the reconciliation.
When a person is in prison or is suffering great persecution,
and the person changes his disposition, and he becomes
gentle, kind and loving in the midst of his trials. It is a blessing
from God. Nothing changed, but the individual changed
through the cross of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Brothers and sisters, Jesus comes into your heart, and He
renews your heart and your mind. Because of Jesus Christ;
you have received The Hoy Spirit, and you are blessed and
your name is written in the Lambs Book of Life.
We must have faith and hope in all of our lifes situations.
Oh, Father God, two sons of Isaac, Jacob and Esau were
reconciled because of You. Please change us so that we can
pray and love our neighbors.
We are not abandoned or destroyed. Please help us to rely on
You and Your work on The cross in Your Name. Amen.

s they approached Jerusalem and came to
Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives,
Jesus sent two of His disciples, saying to them,
Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter
it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever
ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you,
Why are you doing this? tell him, The Lord needs it
and will send it back here shortly. They went and
found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway.
As they untied it, some people standing there asked,
What are you doing, untying that colt? They
answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let
them go (Mark 11:1-6).
The core of Christian faith is the cross of Jesus Christ.
When we come to the church; the first thing we see is
the cross. The cross symbolizes the core of Christian
faith. Jesus died on the cross and forgave our sins and
opened the door of salvation for us who are born in sin,
live in sin, and die in sin.
After the Apostle Paul met Jesus; he made a confession.
1 Corinthians 2:2 says, For I resolved to know
nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and
Him crucified.
He always lived by boasting of the cross of Jesus. I
hope your whole life will be the life of boasting in the
cross of Jesus Christ only. The four books of the Gospel,
the Book of Matthew, the Book of Mark, the Book of
Luke, and the Book of John, have the incident of the
cross of Jesus as the main story. Especially, the Book of
Mark reports detailed the last week of Jesus for one-third
of its contents.
Today is Palm Sunday when Jesus entered Jerusalem
to be crucified on the cross. Jesus cleared the temple on
Monday, argued with Jewish leaders on Tuesday,
prepared for death with prayer on Wednesday, and
preached the Gospel to the disciples and washed their
feet at the last supper on Thursday. On Thursday night,
Jesus went up to Gethsemane and prayed crying out to
God. After 12 am on Friday, Jesus was arrested by
soldiers and was taken to the high priest Annas, to
Caiapahs, then to Pilate. He was also taken to Herod,
but he handed Jesus over to Pilate. Jesus stood before
Pilate, and He was sentenced to death at 6 am on Friday.
Then, Jesus went up to Golgotha carrying the cross and
was crucified at 9 am and died at 3 pm. This week we
really should pray and give thanks in remembrance of the
Lords suffering.
Jesus entered Jerusalem, riding a colt. Through todays
words; I would like to find out three lessons given to us.
First, I would like us to think about the choice of
the Lord.
Mark 11:1 says, As they approached Jerusalem
and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of
Olives; Jesus sent two of His disciples.
Mark 11:2 says, Saying to them, Go to the village
ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a
colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it
and bring it here.
Jesus entered Jerusalem to save humankind as the
Messiah and the King of kings. However, He did not
enter grandly riding a horse. Jesus told His disciples to
untie a colt and bring it to Him, and He rode that colt
which no one had ever ridden.
What does this colt signify? It tells us that the Lords
servant whom God chooses and uses needs to be pure
and beautiful in Gods eyes.
When David was chosen as the second King of Israel,
he was a shepherd boy. While he was shepherding his sheep;
he was called and chosen as the second king. The most
important thing in our whole life is that our hearts need to
always be pure before God.
What is our problem? When we first received grace
and became a new person after believing in Jesus; we
confessed crying that we would serve the Lord well.
However, we get corrupted by the world. We get stained
with dirt of sin, hatred, regret, resentment, complaint,
and anger.
Some people are filled with anger. They live with

7 Church Growth/Summer 2013

explosive anger. Some people always get hurt. They
seem to prepare to receive hurt. If someone says one
word or looks at them up and down; they get hurt easily.
We cannot be used by God with such an image. We should
be changed to the image that the Lord acknowledges. We
need to be changed to the image that Jesus uses.
2 Timothy 2:20-21 says, In a large house there are
articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood
and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for
ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he
will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy,
useful to the Master and prepared to do any good
work.
What should we do to be used preciously? When we
cleanse ourselves and are prepared; the Lord will use us
preciously. Although it is an expensive dish, if it is
covered with mold and food waste; it cannot be used.
However, even though a dish does not look nice, if it is
clean and healthy, the food can be put on it, and it can
be used for good. Although we are not educated, do not
possess many things, and do not look nice to others, if
we are changed and become pure in Gods eyes; the Lord
will use us.
The relationship with the Lord is important. What the
others are saying about us is not important. When the
Lord loves and uses us; it is true happiness, blessing,
and grace. In order to be used; Jesus told us to be like
little children.
Matthew 18:3 says, And He said: I tell you the
truth, unless you change and become like little
children, you will never enter the Kingdom of
Heaven.
God uses us when we change and become innocent like
little children. We cannot be used by God if we get corrupted
in the world, compromise, commit sins, lie, and deceive
others. We always need to live with integrity before the
Lord. Even though it seems like we are making a loss
now, if we live authentically before God; God will raise us
up. Korea has the confirmation hearing system. Nominees
who have been respected and praised by others fall down
overnight by a hearing. Members of The confirmation
hearing committee dug up some dirt on them. If nominees
lived well; they would not have their weaknesses seized upon
by committee members and would not have had any
problem. However, not knowing that they would stand
high; they did not live according to the law. If they did not
compromise, but lived leading by the principles,
Committee Members would say that they cannot find
anything bad about nominees and make them pass.
However, since they did not live leading by the principles,
when Committee Members look for a catch; they find many
bad things about them. So nominees who have been praised
resign and fall down.
Lord, we want to live sincerely before God while
living in the world. Live with integrity. How we have
lived is not important. I hope that the rest of your life
will be the life that the Lord acknowledges.
Second, I would like us to think about the owner of
the colt who obeyed the Lord.
Matthew 21:3 says, If anyone says anything to
you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will
send them right away.
Jesus told His disciples to untie a colt and bring it to
Him. He told His disciples to tell him that the Lord
needs it if anyone asks why they are untying a colt.
Mark 11:5-6 says, Some people standing there
asked, What are you doing, untying that colt? They
answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people
let them go.
When the disciples said, The Lord needs it, people
let it go. In the Book of Luke, we can tell that the people
were the owners of the colt.
Luke 19:33-34 says, As they were untying the colt,
its owners asked them, Why are you untying the
colt? They replied, The Lord needs it.
It is surprising that the owners let them go when the
disciples untied their colt and took it saying, The Lord
needs it. Like the owners who readily gave away their
colt which they cherished when the disciples said the
Lord needs it. Even though it is something that you
really cherished, when the Lord says He needs it,
respond by saying Amen and offer it to the Lord
saying, Lord, take me. Amen. When we obey the Lord;
we meet suffering and sacrifice; however, we also receive
great grace and blessing; Jesus whole life was the life of
obedience and sacrifice.
Philippians 2:8 says, And being found in appearance
Church Growth/Summer 2013
8
as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to
death- even death on a cross!
Third, we need to humble ourselves before God in
order to be used by God. Never be arrogant.
Matthew 21:5 says, Say to the Daughter of Zion,
See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a
donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
In those days, when kings or generals won the war and came
back; they rode on horseback in an imposing manner with a
flourish of bugles. However, Jesus entered Jerusalem on a colt.
This showed the humility of the Lord. Jesus showed His
humility to us. Jesus with gentleness
and humility tells us, Learn
gentleness and humility fromMe.
When we look at the Book of
Numbers, Chapter 12, there is an
accident of Moses brother and sister
talking against Moses because
Moses married an African woman.
When they criticized Moses for
marrying an African woman; God
praised him.
Numbers 12:3 says, Now
Moses was a very humble man,
more humble than anyone else on
the face of the earth.
The Lord is with the person who
is gentle and humble. John the
Baptist prepared the way for Jesus 6
months before Jesus. He baptized
many people and told them to
repent. However, when Jesus
came; people went to Jesus. Even his disciples went
to Jesus.
One of his disciples said to John the Baptist, Teacher,
people who used to be with you went to Jesus. Even
your disciples went to Jesus. There is the famous word
that John the Baptist said.
John 3:30 says, He must become greater; I must
become less.
Do not forget. In our lives; Jesus must become
greater, and we must become less and serve the Lord
with joy and thanksgiving.
I hope that you serve the Lord like John the Baptist. I
want the Lord to be worthy and honored and the precious
work of the Lord to be accomplished in my life. I want the
Lord to be shown; not myself.
Early last year, a Christian broadcaster interviewed me
for an hour. The staff asked me the last question saying,
Pastor, after you finish the ministry, how would you like
to be remembered when you retire? What kind of pastor
do you want people to remember of you?
I answered him saying, After I finish my ministry, I do not
want to be remembered. I only
want the marks of Jesus to be
remembered. I want the marks of
Jesus to remain. I hope your life
will be the life of leaving the
marks of Jesus. I hope the marks
of Jesus remain in your steps.
I hope that the marks of
Jesus remain where you stay. I
want Jesus marks to be left in
your conversation with all the
people. Throughout everything
that you have achieved; I hope that
the marks of Jesus remain; not
your achievement.
Remember Pastor Andrew
Murrays words:
Pride must die in you, or
nothing of heaven can live in you.
Pride is death and hell, but humility
is life and heaven. Then, from
where does the true humility come? It comes from the
knowledge that it is God who rules everything in the world,
that we are nothing and cannot do anything, and that we
need to surrender ourselves and rely only on God.
The Lord says in Matthew 11:29-30, Take My
yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle
and humble in heart, and you will find rest for
your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is
light.
Learn The humility of Jesus. Emulate the gentleness of
the Lord.
9
Church Growth/Summer 2013
Philippians 2:7-8 says, but made Himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant, being made in
human likeness. And being found in appearance as a
man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to
death- even death on a cross!
What was the last thing that Jesus did at the last
supper? It was washing the disciples feet. Jesus did
what slaves or servants did at that time. Because His
disciples still did not understand Jesus suffering of the
cross; they thought Jesus would be the king and argued
for the position. At that moment, Jesus washed their feet
and said to them.
John 13:14-15 says, Now that I, your Lord and
Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash
one anothers feet. I have set you an example that you
should do as I have done for you.
Pastor Samuel Logan Brengle built up the foundation
of Holiness Theology of the Salvation Army. He
studied law at Boston University and studied theology at
Asbury Theological Seminary. When Pastor Brengle
was invited to a big church in the States; he was filled
with the Holy Spirit and met William Booth, the General
of the Salvation Army.
He told William Booth that he would help him and
work for the Salvation Army. So, he went to England,
declining the invitation to serve the big church.
However, as soon as he arrived there; they made him
polish shoes of many cadets of the Salvation Army
when they came back from their ministry in the evening.
Pastor Brengle had to polish cadetsshoes caked with
mud all night long in a dark basement room. As he
removed the mud from the shoes; he got upset. He did
not understand why he, who graduated from the
prestigious university, had to polish the shoes. However,
at one point, the grace of the Lord was poured upon
him. He remembered Jesus washing His disciples feet.
Didnt Jesus, who was to receive the glory of
heaven and praise of the angels, leave His Father,
humbly come to the earth in the form of a servant, and
wash His disciples feet? When he realized that, he
said, Lord, didnt You wash Your disciples feet? I
would humbly polish their shoes, too.
He became the servant of the Lord and the leader who
was held in respect and touched many ministers in the
Salvation Army. Being used as a leader means living
a life of humility and gentleness. It is the true leader.
Since a humble and gentle person shows Jesus in his/her
image; God pours blessing upon that person. Always
make a confession before the Lord, I am nothing, but
the Lord is all in all.
My cousin graduated from a university in the States
and worked as a head nurse in a hospital. One day, she
heard the voice of the Lord and went to Youth with a
Mission in Hawaii to become a missionary. As soon as
she arrived there; they trained her. They did not make
her do anything but to wash dishes.
About a hundred people lived together and after each
meal, she had to go into the kitchen and wash dishes.
She washed the dishes for a whole month.
So she got upset thinking that she did not come here
to wash the dishes but to become a missionary. She
cried and agonized over whether to go back to the
States. However, God poured grace upon her that she
passed the dish-washing training and became a
missionary.
Staying at Yanji City in China; she opened two orphanages.
She goes to Pyeongyang every month and serves them.
How grateful the grace of the Lord is! When we become
lowered; the Lord will use us. The hardest thing is to be
lowered because we feel like we are special.
Let us pray,
Our Heavenly Father of infinite love, grace, and mercy;
we are nothing. The Lord is everything to me. Lord,
please take my life with pleasure. In Jesus Name we
pray, amen.

auls challenge to the church to Shine like
stars in the universe is still relevant today
because the world is in darkness. People are lost;
they are groping about in the dark. It is significant to
note that a star guided the wise men to the place where
the Savior was born. So, Pauls instruction still applies
to us today. We should be the lights guiding men to the
Savior.
We should shine so that those
in darkness can find Jesus as
their Lord and Savior. We are
the Church, and we are called to
be lighthouses wherever we are.
The Word of God tells us why
we ought to shine for Jesus:
1. Children of God through
Creation
Malachi 2:10 states: Have
we not all one Father? Did
not one God create us? Why
do we profane the covenant
of our fathers by breaking
faith with one another?
Everyone, in a sense, is a child
of God because it was He who
created us.
2. Children of God through
Redemption
Through the redemptive work of Jesus; we all have
been given the right to become children of God. John
1:12, 13 states: Yet to all who receive Him, to
those who believed in His Name, He gave the right
to become children of God- children born not of natural
descent, nor of human decision or a husbands will, but
born of God.
Gal 3:26, 27, says the same thing: You are all
sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of
you who were baptized into Christ have clothed
yourselves with Christ.
Gods redemptive work on the cross has cleansed us
from all sins. We who have put our faith and trust in
Jesus become the children of God. Therefore, as Gods
children, we ought to shine and
direct those who are still living
in sin to Jesus Himself.
We who have accepted Jesus as
our Savior have His light in us.
We are to let that light shine. Jesus
said in John 8:12: I am the
light of the world. Whosoever
follows Me will never walk in
darkness, but will have the light
of life. We who followed Him
have the light of life. Therefore,
we should be that shining light
that will lead our family members,
friends and members of our
community to Jesus.
Shining for Jesus
In the Sermon on the Mount,
Jesus exhorted His disciples to
shi ne for Hi m. He sai d i n
Matt 5:14: You are the light
of the world. A city on a hill
cannot be hidden.
Jesus wants us to shine and show others how to live
and rise above their problems to face the challenges of
life. We must therefore be determined to be that light
in this dark world. Our light can bring great help and
pleasure to those around us.
The Bible has some examples of those who shone
for Christ. Below are two such examples:
Prince Guneratnam
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of
God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you
hold out the Word of life- in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for
nothing (Philippians 2:14-16).
11 Church Growth/Summer 2013
John the Baptist
John 5:35 states: John was a lamp that burned
and gave light. John the Baptist lived in such a way
that he was likened to a lamp that burned and gave light to
those around him.
Stephen the Deacon
Acts 6:15 states: All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin
looked intently at Stephens face which shone like an
angel. It was not merely a physical condition. His face
shone with an impression that said he was a child of God.
The expression showed that he had been redeemed from
sins, the self and worldly concerns. That light radiated out
from within him.
Likewise, we can shine for Jesus.
How Should We Shine?
Matt 5:16 says: In the same way, let your light shine
before men, that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in heaven. Shining for the Lord is
the essence of Christian service. We should let our light so
shine that those who see our good deeds will give praise to
God because it is the Father who works in us. We do not
have the ability to be good. Only God can accomplish that
in us. We are His handiwork.
Therefore, to shine for Jesus means doing what is good,
righteous and pleasing to God. To be such light; it is
good to start each day with the prayer: God, make me a
blessing to someone through the things I say and do.
Lord, use me to lead someone to find You as his or her
Savior and Lord.

he University of Cape Coast is one of the principal universities in Ghana. The university, which
was established in 1962, has a student population of 52,000 which includes distant learners and
sandwich students. About 16,000 students are resident on the campus.
The Healing Jesus Campaign Team, led by Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills, visited this school with
three nights of power-packed Gospel Campaign.
Virtually, the entire school gathered on the Casford Field to hear the message of the matchless
Gospel of Jesus Christ preached by the Evangelist. It was the largest gathering ever in the history of
the university. The crusade was also attended by senior members and lecturers.
Each night, Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills preached the message of salvation with simplicity and passion.
He preached on The House on a Rock, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, and Greater Love.
Over a thousand students rushed forward each night in response to the Evangelists invitation to salvation
in Jesus Christ.
The power of God was also present to heal the sick. There were many notable and fantastic miracles.
A woman who was wheelchair bound due to a stroke for many years got up and began to walk as the
Evangelist prayed. Lumps melted away and many eye related problems were healed. Truly, Jesus is a
healing Jesus.

he Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), one of Ghanas leading
universities witnessed two nights of powerful visitation from the Lord through the Healing Jesus
Campaign. Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills and his team visited the university on the 15th and 16th of
February, 2013 in what has become the most powerful, ground-breaking evangelistic and miracle
campaigns in the schools history.
The expectation was great, and the atmosphere was electrifying and the Lord confirmed His Word
with many signs and wonders on the Royal Parade Grounds of the University which was overflowing
with over 10,000 students being blessed with The unadulterated Gospel salvation messages.
The first night saw the Evangelist preaching a message entitled BREAKING NEWS: ALL DEAD
PEOPLE ARE STILL ALIVE!!! It was a moving and convicting message on life after death and the
students listened in such silence and rapt attention that one could have heard a pin drop! When the
Evangelist made the altar call it was such a wonderful sight to see 1,800 students surrender their lives to
Christ on the first night! Over 1,300 students gave their lives to Christ on the second night, as another
powerful message was preached with the Holy Spirit performing signs and great wonders.
Testimonies of healing and miracles abounded both nights. Many ladies with lumps in their breasts
received their healing as the lumps disappeared. Many visually impaired students who could not see more
than 20 meters from where they stood were suddenly healed and began to see very clearly from afar off !!!
The power of God touched a lady who for over 5 years could not control her ability to urinate.
To her shock and awe, she realized that for over 30 minutes, she felt like passing urine, but she could
hold it!!! A young man who described himself as a bad believer in miracles, but who could not stand
for more than 10 minutes without leaning on somebody or something could not believe that after the
Evangelist prayed for healing, he had been standing for over 30 minutes without feeling or sensing any
need to sit or lean on anything!!!!!
These and many more miracles and blessings did the University of Science and Technology receive
during the Healing Jesus Campaign.

oth God and Satan are releasing a spirit of desperation
upon the earth in our days- one is a spirit of hopelessness
and false hope, while the other is a spirit of hunger for
more of God. One spirit will cause despair, while the other
will produce desperation for a fresh encounter with God.
To see the invitation of the enemys spirit of desperation, all
we need to do is watching the evening news or reading the
daily newspaper to discover that these are despairing days
across the globe.
Almost everywhere we look, we see a stalled economy, high
unemployment, budget crises, rampant crime, racial unrest,
wars, environmental catastrophes, natural disasters... and the
list goes on. These desperate days are truly days of crisis.
However, the word crisis originally and literally means
decision. For believers in Jesus Christ, these are days of
decision; for it is we who choose which spirit of desperation
will operate in our lives.
Satan would have our minds overwhelmed with the
problems of this world. His desire is for us to have our faith
neutralized by eliminating our hope (after all... faith is the
substance of things hoped for). If the heaviness of these days
does not cause us to give up all hope; the enemy will try to get
our hopes off God, and put them onto other people.
In other words, he wants us to have false hope. No
politician, no newsperson, no radio personality, no church
leader has the answer for these dark and daring days - only
Jesus Christ, the Messiah! Our hopes must be fixed on the
Lord and not upon anyone else.
To do this you might have to turn off the TV, stop listening
to certain radio programs, or even stop reading the newspaper.
To break through and be victorious; you do not need more
information... you need more desperation! This is the
paramount need of the days in which we live.
The Good News is that, in these anxious times, the Lord is
pouring out His Spirit of desperation who ignites a hunger and
thirst for more of God. He is pouring out His Spirit of
desperation in unprecedented measure in these unusual times.
The Spirit will stir up our hearts to move beyond merely
wishing for more or wanting more of God, and take us to the
place where we are desperate - we must have more.
He will fill our hearts with a holy hunger to spend ourselves on
worshiping God, a willingness to wait upon the Lord, and a
resolution to settle for nothing less than all God has to give us.
Recently, while worshiping at the end of a service, there was a
strong presence of the Lord pouring out His Spirit of desperation.
I asked the Lord if He was sending another wave of His Spirit.
Clearly the Lord declared, My desire is not to send a wave of
My Spirit, but to find a people who will willingly open the
floodgates of their hearts - who will throw their hearts doors
wide open to Me. To them, I will not merely send a wave of My
Spirit. The tide of My presence will come in and be with them.
What a tremendous promise. The Lord wants us to open our
hearts to embrace His Spirit of desperation. If we will; He will
be with us; not like a quickly come and quickly gone wave,
but like the gradually- increasing, long - lasting tide. A wave
is temporary- only on the shore for a few seconds, while the
tide is prolonged- it comes in for hours.
With a heart of invitation, the Lord is asking if you will be
one who surrenders to the enemys spirit of despair in these
dark and desperate days, or will you take desperate measures
by heeding His calling to open up the floodgates of your
heart - open them wide - so the Holy Spirit can deposit His
holy desperation. Those who will see the glory of God will be
those whose hungry hearts sing:
Im desperately needy for you. All that I have... simply
wont do. So, I implore, pour out much more; For I am
desperate; Im desperately needy for you.

am an Asian American Israeli. I have an Asian face,
an American voice and an Israeli passport. My wife is
a Messianic Jew, and we came as immigrants to Israel
in 1987 from Japan where I had been serving as a pastor
and working in the computer industry.
We moved to the city of Haifa and settled on Mt. Carmel,
the Mountain of Elijah the Prophet. In 1991, after the Gulf
War we were part of small group that founded a new
congregation on Mt. Carmel, and I became one of the pastors.
In 1996, a ministry called Asia Center was launched to
build a spiritual highway of intercession and evangelism
between Israel and the growing churches in East Asia.
What is the significance of Israel to the unfinished task of
world evangelization? Israel is a resurrected nation with
an irrevocable gifting and call (Romans 11:28-29).
Gods purpose for Israel was clearly expressed when
Abraham was first called by God and chosen for a special
life of faith.
Go forth from your country, and from your relatives
and from your fathers house, to the land which I will
show you; and I will make you a great nation, and I will
bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall
be a blessing; and I will bless those who bless you, and
the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the
families of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 12:1-3).
From the start, Abrahams call involved giving a
blessing to all the nations of the world. God repeated His
promise after Abrahams faithfulness was tested on the
Mountain of Sacrifice with his son, Isaac.
The Lord repeated this same promise to Abrahams son
Isaac and also to his grandson; Jacob who was renamed Israel.
Four times over three generations God declares in the
Book of Genesis that the destiny of the Jewish people is
to be a blessing to all the peoples of the world.
God has maintained His faithfulness to Israel throughout
the centuries. Israel is still Gods chosen nation. However,
Jesus said, From everyone who has been given much,
much will be required; and to whom they entrusted
much, of him they will ask all the more (Luke 12:48).
The correct response to being chosen by God is a deep
sense of obligation. Choseness without obligation is
exclusivity. This exclusivity was the root sin of the Pharisees,
the leading Jewish sect in Jesus day.
Israel is Jonah
In the Bible, an individual man often serves as Gods
picture of a nation. In the Book of Jonah, the Prophet we
can see Gods choosing of a man, and Gods choosing of
a nation. In Jonah Chapter One, God said, Arise, go to
Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their
wickedness has come up before Me (Jonah 1:2).
This is a picture of Gods purpose in His original Covenant
with Israel. God chose Israel to be a light to all the nations, but
Israel chose not to be chosen and rejected Gods call.
Jonah disobeyed and fled by ship, but God caused a
violent storm, and each gentile sailor in desperation called
upon his own god.
Lots were chosen, and it was found that Jonah, a Jew,
was aboard fleeing in disobedience to God.
Jonah accepted the blame for the ships misfortune and
was thrown into the sea. In this, we can see the nations
raging in fearful frustration and a shadow of future anti-
Semitism, as the Jew in their midst is identified and cast
out to his death.
God appointed a fish to swallow Jonah. It was a sea
monster of judgment and near-extinction, but also the
vessel of his ultimate preservation.
This mysterious event was interpreted by Jesus when He
said, An evil and adulterous generation craves for a
sign; and yet no sign shall be given to it but the sign of
Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and
three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the
Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart
of the earth (Matthew 12:39-40).
Jesus compared Jonahs sojourn in the depths of the sea
Peter Tsukahira
17 Church Growth/Summer 2013
with His own journey through death and into hell itself.
For Israels Messiah to be cut off meant death and
separation from God not just for Him, but for the entire
nation. Jesus death was a sign of judgment upon Gods
chosen nation.
After 70 A.D., when most of the people of Israel were
expelled from the land of their inheritance; Israel ceased to
function as a nation.
What followed was almost two thousand years of
wandering, persecutions, expulsions and murders,
culminating in the Holocaust where millions of Jews were
systematically hunted down and exterminated.
Has God required any other nation to die as excruciating
a death as this over such a long period of time?
However, Gods mercy triumphs over His judgment. In
1948 a new nation, modern Israel was born. Even as Jesus
died and was resurrected to new life, the Nation of Israel
disappeared from the earth to be reborn in our time.
The appearance of modern Messianic Jewish believers
in Israel today is a resurrection of the faith held by the
first Israeli disciples of Jesus.
In Jonah Chapter three it says, The word of the
Lord came to Jonah the second time.
The Lord is the God of the second chance and His
second call to Jonah was the same as His first: Go,
preach to another nation. This time Jonah obeyed the
Word of God and became Israels best-known, cross-
cultural Prophet - a Jewish Missionary! Today, after
Israels long years of dispersion; God is giving the Jewish
remnant a second chance to be a Light to the Nations.
Israel is the only nation to which God will give two historic
opportunities- separated by two thousand years! It was
Jesus who prophesied, The last shall be first, and the
first last (Matthew 20:16).
In our day, we are witnessing not only the historic return
of the Jewish people to the land of Israel, but the rise of
indigenous Israeli congregations worshipping Jesus in the
very land where He once walked.
God is sending His Word a second time to the restored
remnant of Israel to fulfill the Chosen Nations call. Jonah was
a Jewish Prophet sent cross-culturally to preach the Word of
God even to the traditional enemies of his own people.
Modern Israels redemption is joined with her actions as
a light bringing Jesus message of salvation to the nations
of the world.
Paul the Apostle wrote, A partial hardening has happened
to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and
thus all Israel will be saved (Romans 11:25b-26a).
For Zions Sake
There is a majestic sequence to Gods actions in history
and a unique season given for each nation.
Gods original covenant purpose and call for Israel and
the Jewish people to be a spiritual light to all nations has
not changed. Today, in the modern state, a remnant of
Israeli believers are worshipping Yeshua (Jesus) and
bringing the power of His Spirit back home to Israel after
almost two thousand years.
Among the steadily growing numbers of Jewish believers
are individuals and families who are called to go... to the
Muslims, to the Hindus, and to all the nations.
These Israeli Missionaries have received the mandate
and mantle of Abraham, and they are humbly joining their
Gentile, Christian brothers and sisters who have thus far
carried the work of world evangelization.
Modern Israeli ministers are arriving late in the day
like the laborers called to work in the vineyard that Jesus
described in Matthew Chapter twenty. However, it is for
Zions sake-for the salvation of Israel, as well as for the
world that we obey and preach transculturally.
For Zions sake I will not keep silent, and for
Jerusalems sake I will not keep quiet, until her
righteousness goes forth like brightness, and her
salvation like a torch that is burning. And the nations
will see your righteousness (Isaiah 62:1-2a).

y story began on a noisy night in New York
City thirty years ago. New York is the city that
never sleeps, and neither could I. That day,
my boss had called me into his office, and in a short
conversation, had changed my life. No, it wasnt in
the way you might have expected. In thirty minutes, I
went from assisting him as an analyst to becoming
manager of marketing services. I went from being an
individual contributor to the head of a 350-person
division with five managers reporting directly to me! I
was floored.
As I lay in bed; I assessed the situation. Upon graduation
from Stanford Business School, I had been ready to take on
the world, armed with what I had learned. I felt as though I
had come out of that institution like a proton comes out of
a cyclotron, ready to blast through the business world
with my understanding of the latest business tools.
However, I found that the tools, while highly effective,
did not help me explain or solve a number of tough
issues.
Now, I was a 27-year-old Stanford MBA, rapidly
climbing the ladder at a major New York company, but
where would it take me? What would I be in 30 years? I
tried to chart my future career trajectory. At the end of all
the perturbations and iterations; it all seemed somehow
empty and purposeless. Mentally exhausted, a strange and
frightening thought entered my mind: Is that all there is?
What if I woke up at age 60 and realized that I had missed
it, and I didnt even have a notion of what it was!
However, I knew that if I missed it now, only to discover it
at age 60; I would never be able to recover those lost years.
It was a scary thought; I never told anyone, but it
nagged me for years and started me on a search for an
answer. As I lay in bed, it never dawned on me that it was
God. A few years later I was married, had a son, and was
living in California. My wife, Roberta, and I thought we
owed our son the same opportunity to consider religion as
we had been given, so he could come to his own decision
about faith.
A plan was hatched. Our first stop would be the local
church I had attended as a child. Next, would be the
Catholic church where Roberta was raised, then the local
Buddhist Temple, the synagogue, and so on.
We never made it past the first church. As we went
Sunday after Sunday; I began to wrestle with God. I
knew I was hearing spiritual truth. I began to think
seriously about the Lord, and I knew He wanted to enter
into a relationship with me. My wrestling with God was
not about following Jesus; it was about what I would do if
I did take that step. By way of the Sunday sermons; I had
come to the conclusion that any serious Christian could
only serve God as a pastor, a true follower of Jesus would
lay down his career and go into preaching.
I wanted to be a Christian, but I also wanted to be a
businessman. My education, training, abilities and passion
were in business. Could I really give those up to follow
God? In the church parking lot after one Sunday morning
service; I struggled with God over that choice. The Lord
pointed me to Psalm 37:4, Delight yourself in the
Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
My desires were for business; so I asked God to change
my heart. That morning I decided to follow God, even if
it meant I needed to become a pastor in a poor section of
town.
My Ministry: Business
Sadly, I later discovered that even mature Christians
often succumb to this line of thinking, concluding that
they must change careers in order to serve God. They fail
to see the opportunity for spiritual value in their work in
the marketplace. The businesspersons ministry is to
serve others through useful goods and helpful services
and to infuse each personal interaction with the fragrance
of Christ. That is His highcalling from God, and it was
my calling.
Business by The Book
God was giving me the desire of my heart. It would
take years for me to fully understand the important
concept that business was my ministry, but God started to
teach me slowly. One Sunday, our pastor spoke on the
topic of Weekend Warriors. Was I one of those people
who prayed and worshiped on Sunday and left all of that
at home, as I entered a different and unrelated world on
Monday? After recognizing I fit the description of those
Weekend Warriors. I realized that my faith needed to
Ken Eldred
19 Church Growth/Summer 2013
impact my work. I needed to do my business by the Book.
I needed to evaluate my actions in light of the Biblical
standards of integrity, morality and love.
So for many years, I faithfully took the Lord with me
on my quest to serve Him in the business world.
I used the Bible to carefully consider the morality of my
actions. I wanted to please the Lord, and I could see the
value of operating aboveboard. This was the first step of
making my work my ministry, one. I am sure many of you
can identify with.
Partnering with God
Eventually, the Lord showed me that He wanted to be
more than a moral standard of an example of loving
concern for others in my business practice. He began to
reveal that He wanted to partner with me in all that I was
doing. Early on, I had seen God as the One who put me
here and cared for me.
I had seen Him as uniquely and significantly interested
in the process of how I did my business. Ultimately, I
thought He was uninterested in the outcome of my
business, since that was not Spiritual. I didnt realize
that this view sells God short. He is as interested in the
outcome as He is in how we approach an issue.
Recently, a friend told me that when he prays, he asks
only for strength and courage to do what is right in his
business. That is fine as far as it goes, but God has and
wants to give more. These prayers fall short of the
potential in the relationship we have with God.
I told him his prayer was fine, but it left God out of
partnering with him in his business. He said, I get it; I
am only getting half of the equation. The other half in my
business is God. I noted that his was a good analogy,
except it is more like firing on one cylinder when we
have available to us seven more.
Another friend expressed another common view of
businessmen in the Church. I never pray for specific
outcomes, he said. It is not right to bother God with
these issues. I just pray that Gods will be done in the
situation.
That is fine too, as far as it goes. However, it fails to
recognize that God wants to lead us and provide for us in
every aspect of our lives, as we follow His plans for us.
We acknowledge that He could bring about specific
outcomes, because we see Him do the miraculous when
the doctors cant.
However, since He does not always answer that type of
prayer in the affirmative; we reckon it is better not to ask.
Yet He is in the business of doing miracles to make up
for where we fall short. King David spent a week on his
face before God, asking Him to spare his child. God did
not, but that never stopped David from asking.
The point here is that if we dont ask God specifically
for answers to prayers, we cannot know when He has
answered us specifically. That includes prayers for God
to partner with us and affect miraculous business
outcomes. In my case, He had wanted to help, but I had
not been in the asking mode. The realization that God
desired to partner with me, and that He cared about
business outcomes and wanted me to ask Him for specific
results- deepened the sense of business, as my ministry.
Business Success and the Bible
In the course of writing this book; God has taken me
into a new area of awareness. I have understood for many
years that God is interested in busines, and I have noticed
the correlation of Biblical concepts with business
realities. Only recently, have I fully appreciated the depth
to which the Bible is the foundation of all meaningful
business concepts.
Honesty, service, excellence, respect, commitment, value,
trust, loyalty and quality are not only successful business
practices, but are also Biblical Principles.
They were Biblical Principles first. The credit is rarely
given to Scripture, because so few recognize the genesis
of the concepts. Thus, many of us have been taught the
business principles without any reference to their Biblical
origin. I have come to appreciate that good business
practices dont conflict with the Bible- they are the Bible.
When successful business people who operate on
Biblical Principles are the subject of articles and book
chapters, the writer is often incredulous that the
individual succeeded despite the albatross of following
Gods laws.
How could he or she possibly profit without cutting
corners, engaging in dishonesty, and treating employees
dispassionately? I believe these individuals are not
successful despite following Biblical Principles; they are

ncouragement is one of the key ingredients to
success in any endeavor. That is why it is such a
valuable and precious commodity.
I have heard of true cases where one simple word of
encouragement brought a person out of a dark pit of
heaviness, and it caused the person to forge ahead into
great heights of brilliance.
To be an encourager; you must have a generous heart.
You must have special insight into what is needed to
activate greatness in a person who has been pushed down
and who feels defeated by life. It is a tremendous gift to
be an encourager.
What does the root word mean? It is a means whereby
a person is inspired and activated with confidence in
order to forge ahead with the needed approval and
support.
How often does a person feel so alone in their work and
choices, but with a little encouragement; that same person
will move forward with boldness to accomplish his or her
goal.
World English Dictionary
encourage
-vb
1. to inspire (someone) with the courage or
confidence (to do something)
2. to stimulate (something or someone to do
something) by approval or help; support
An encourager (plural encouragers) Noun:
It is one who gives encouragement.
There have been many encouragers in our lives
throughout the years, but there is only One who will be
there throughout the long haul. God almighty is our
greatest Encourager in this life, and His Word is powerful
to motivate, inspire, empower, and to move us into
supernatural realms of victory.
When you know that The God who created the
universe is on your side; nothing can come against you.
When you love God and are called according to His
purpose; you have the Holy Spirit working in you,
through you, for you and He is your Confidence, your
Encourager, and He is your overcoming power for success
in any and all of your pursuits in this life.
When we read the Word of God; we are not only
hearing what God is saying, but we are also being
empowered with the Presence of God. He is The Word,
and He is The Truth, The Way and The Life.
Through His Word; we can be in a constant state of
being encouraged by the Greatest Encourager of all
time, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Joshua 1:9, Joshua tells us that he was commanded to
be strong and of good courage. He was commanded to
not be afraid or dismayed because the Lord God was
with him wherever he went.
Joshua and Caleb were able with the help of Gods
encouragement to bring down Jericho and to conquer the
Promised Land. Today, with this type of encouragement
from our Lord Jesus Christ; we can conquer our area of
influence for the Kingdom of God.
Philippians 4:13, gives us the encouragement for any
and everything. We will ever attempt to accomplish
when the Word of God says that We can do all
things through Christ which strengthens us.
Many times in my life; the above verse kept me
going. Just repeating it in your mind and out loud will
give you the strength you need to carry on and forge
ahead.
Gods Word brings comfort, protection, Truth,
deliverance, health, wisdom, love, joy, peace and it
endues us wi t h new fai t h, hope and courage t o
complete our lives in the victory that He has won on
the cross.
In short, our Lord and our God is our greatest
Encourager through His powerful Words of Life.
We will all need encouragement at some point in
our lives. It is a fact that the enemy of our souls is

very busy in every aspect of our lives trying to bring
discouragement to us. Discouragement is rampant in our
lives in these end times.
When we hear the bad news; it is often intended to
bring us to hopelessness, distress and apathy in our power
to overcome these difficulties. However, when you are
being bombarded with negative reports; just open up that
Book that is above every other book in the world, and
read the Words of our Great Encourager Jesus Christ.
He is always found in His Word to bring us through
each and every experience, trial or tribulation in our
lives. He has the perfect Word of encouragement for
you as you look to Him and open His Book.
We read so much every day that could bring us to a
place of heaviness, but when we open The Book; we
can be so encouraged, inspired and renewed in The
Holy Spirit of God.
If you are an encourager; you take after Your Father
God and His Son, Who are so very brilliant in
transforming what is lacking into what is filled with
love, faith, hope, new life and vitality.
In short, it can be the precise key to a persons ability
to fulfill their destiny with greater confidence, assurance
and enthusiasm.
My prayer for all of Gods people:
Dear Heavenly Father, We pray that all of Your
people will be granted Your gift of encouragement to
those in need. Please bring us into the paths of those
who need a kind word of encouragement, a pat on the
back or a word that will inspire them to move onward
and upward in their destiny.
A word that is fitly spoken is like apples of gold in
pictures of silver. Please grant us this powerful gift, and
may it be used for Your honor and glory. In Jesus
almighty Name and for Your glory. Amen and amen.

successful because they follow Biblical Principles.
All meaningful business concepts have a Biblical
Foundation. For example, nations of economic greatness
display a very high level of trust in their moral, cultural
and economic systems. Of course, trust is fundamental to
our relationship with God, Who is trustworthy.
The rule of law, so fundamental to strong economies and
stable societies, is also basic to the Bible. We are under a
higher authority, and Gods laws are immutable. Stability in
government is fundamental to successful business.
The Biblical mandate to Do unto others as you
would have them do unto you is basic to the concept
of good service. Ethics and morality are defined by a
strong set of fundamental beliefs to which all adhere, and
the Lord is the glue that holds it all together.
Because Biblical Principles lead to successful business,
the market place affords us the opportunity to present
Gods truth in a uniquely relevant way. We just need to
connect the dots between business and the Bible. In the
process of teaching and demonstrating successful
business practices; we can present the Gospel by word
and by deed.
This opportunity to share the Gospel through business exists
at home and abroad, and it is what has prompted many
missions-minded Christians to pursue Kingdom business.

THE GOSPEL WAVE
BN.com-Peter Tsukahira is a Japanese
American Israeli citizen. He is a second
generation Japanese born in America. As a
young man; he studied at a Boston University in
the 60s during the turbulent times of the Vietnam
War and the Civil Rights Movement. He
participated in the youth-oriented Cultural
Revolution that was sweeping the nation until
his best friend commited suicide. This marked a
turning point for Peter to search for truth in his life.
Several months after his best friends death in 1973; Peters
girlfriend of Jewish descent, Rita, went to a coffeehouse in
Santa Fe, N.M., called Shalom. There, she heard a young Jewish
hippies story about his life-changing encounter with Jesus
as his Messiah. That night Rita went through a deep heart
change and accepted Jesus as her Messiah, too. Peter noticed
the immediate, radical change in Ritas life and prayed to
become Gods servant.
Soon after this, Peter and Rita were married, and Peters
desire to become involved in ministry led him to go to two
years of seminary at Christ for the Nations. From this
earliest point of their conversion to Christianity; God had
already put Israel in Peter and Ritas hearts. Also, their contacts
at Christ for the Nations had strong ties to Israel. While Peter
was going to seminary; he also worked in the computer
industry. Both of these paths led them to Japan in the 1980s.
CALL TO ISRAEL
For five years in Tokyo; Peter helped assemble an
international congregation and served as associate pastor,
yet Peter and Rita always knew they would live and work
in Israel. As a result of Ritas Jewish heritage, they were
invited to come to Israel as new immigrants and become
citizens. In 1987, they moved to Israel with their 2-year-old
daughter. They had the vision to establish a congregation
in Haifa that would benefit both Jews and gentiles, and
they began to gather with a handful of believers near their
home for prayer and fellowship. In 1990, they met David
and Karen Davis. The Davises moved from Jerusalem to
Haifa to start a drug rehabilitation center called Beit
Nitzachon, or House of Victory. In 1991, the Davises
asked Peter and Rita to help them pastor the congregation
that began out of the rehabilitation center. This congregation
became Kehilat HaCarmel (Carmel Assembly), where
they all continue to minister.
GODS TSUNAMI
A key message Peter wants to share is the
incredible significance of Israel as a nation. The
existence of Israel alone is the fulfillment of Gods
Word. It testifies to Gods covenant and proves His
promises are true. Bible believers should be
enlightened to Gods fulfillment of His promises
and His Word through His chosen people, the Jews.
Israel exists because God purposed it this way, and
Israel was chosen to be a blessing for all nations.
Peter wants to help impart the significance of Israel as a nation
and the vision for the prophetic purpose of Israel (Romans
11:25-26). The only hope of real peace in Israel is Jews and
Arabs worshipping and ministering together in the land.
At Kehilat HaCarmel, Arab and Israeli pastors work
together side-by-side. The foundational vision of this
congregation is the idea of one new man, Jews, Arabs, and
other gentiles worshipping together in the unity of the Holy
Spirit. The church has also planted two completely Arabic
speaking congregations.
Beit Nitzachon has also shown fruits of its labors. An
Israeli drug addict went through the rehabilitation program
and succeeded. Later, a militant Arab who was trained for
suicide bombings enrolled in the drug rehabilitation program.
The recovered Israeli helped the Arab through his
rehabilitation, and both became friends.
Peters latest book, Gods Tsunami tells of Gods move
throughout the earth. A tsunami is a very large ocean wave
caused by an underwater earthquake. Peter says Gods
Tsunami is the move of the Gospel expanding in a westward
direction. From the time of the Apostle Paul, Peter shows that
God directed Paul to preach the Gospel to the west. Peter
chronicles how the Gospel has moved west into Europe and has
been moving steadily westward to this day. Though Pauls
ministry only took him as far as Rome, the Gospel has
continued to spread to Europe, then to America. From there it
moved to Asia (the 10/40 window) and will circle back to
Israel- where it all started, will be the end of the line in the
western sweep of world evangelization. Jerusalem is Gods
chosen place for the return of the Messiah. This message is
described in Scripture. The passage Peter references is Romans
11:25, where Israels revival will follow the fullness of Gods
harvest among all nations and is the chief requirement for
Christs return. (C.G.I is very honored to have Peter Tsukahira
on our Church Growth International Board of Directors.)
