Technical Data Sheet GP

This technical data sheet provides information on a general purpose acetoxy silicone sealant. The sealant is a one part, acid-curing silicone that is non-sagging, gunnable from 5-40°C, and flexible from -50-100°C. It adheres well to many surfaces like glass and ceramics. The sealant cures in 25 minutes and has properties like tensile strength of 0.6 N/mm2 and 200% elongation. It is suitable for DIY applications like sealing cars, boats, and houses, but should not be used on certain substrates or in contact with some metals.

The joint width must be designed to accommodate the movement capability of the sealant. Joints must be properly dimensioned as changes are no longer possible after construction.

APPLICATION: DIY applications (car, boat, caravan, house)

RESTRICTIONS ON USE: Should not be used on substrates such as marble, concrete, fibrous cement and mortar, because the silicone sealant will release acetic acid during vulcanization. Should not be used in contact with metals such as lead, copper, brass or zinc due to corrosion. Should not be used in contact with pre-stressed polyacrylate and polycarbonate elements as it may cause environmental stress cracking. Should not be used on substrates as EPDM or neoprene; as these may cause it to ture yellow. Should not be used for sealing of aquaria. Should not be recommended for use on natural stone, such as marble, granite and quartzite, as it may cause staining. Should not be recommended for structural glazing bonding. ADHESION: exhibits excellent primerless adhesion to most no-porous siliceous material, e.g. glass, tile, ceramics, enamel, glazed tile and clinker; impregnated, varnished or painted wood; and some plastics. Users must carry out their own tests due to the great variety of substrates. The adhesion can be improved in many cases by pretreatment of the substrates with a primer. PROCESSING: The substrate area that will be contact with the sealant must be clean, dry and free of all loose material, dust, dirt, rust, oil and other contaminants.

STORAGE: 12 months from date of production if stored in undamaged original sealed containers, in dry conditions at temperatures between +5 and +25 Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must check for quality assurance reasons. SAFETY NOTES:
During vulcanization acetic acid is released. The vapors should not be inhaled for long periods or in high concentration. Hence, good ventilation of work place is necessary. If uncured silicone

rubber come into contact with eyes, the affected area must be rinsed thoroughly with water. Cured silicone rubber, however, can be handled without any risk to health.
