APRIL 2013: Class Descriptions
Flow Yoga Sequences of postures that flow from one to the next, both standing and floor postures, to create a heat throughout the body for a more rigorous cardio experience. *Group cycling A group exercise class done on stationary bikes led by an instructor who guides the class through an imaginary bicycle ride that includes a variety of cycling techniques and skills to provide a high-energy cardio workout. Sign-up on-line at www.ymcawnc.org, schedules. See membership staff for instructions. JoyUs GrooveJoyUs Groove puts simple moves to great music so you can dance them your way. This mind-body inspired class proves every body can dance and love it. Low Impact Aerobics A low-impact cardio workout to increase heart rates with minimal impact on joints. This class may include some step workout, floor, and abdominal work. Moving for Better Balance- an evidence-based therapeutic training for balance integrating therapeutic movements into daily functioning for baby boomers and beyond. Muscle Toning with Abs Class designed to strengthen and tones the whole body using free weights and a variety of other equipment; includes exercises that target abdominal and lower back muscles. Muscle PumpA strength training class that works the whole body using free weights and bars to develop muscle endurance and strength. New to Yoga A yoga class for the new yoga participant introducing basic yoga postures and techniques. Pilates A mind-body core conditioning class that combines correct breathing, body alignment, and movement principles to improve strength, flexibility, and good body mechanics. Power Yoga An active yoga class that will move quickly through yoga poses, emphasizing strength and agility to create an intense yoga workout for the more experienced participant. Step & pump Choreography based step routines appropriate for all levels of steppers. This class also includes a strength segment for a cardio and strength experience. Tai chiTai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice of moving meditation that stimulates the bodys energy flow, while deepening ones innate calm. Focus on balance, breath, and mind-body integration for health. Toddler Class (ages 2-4) Designed to incorporate physical movement with imaginative play. *Free for members, $20 monthly fee for non-members so bring friends! Yoga Yoga blends flexibility and muscle toning movements with a mental focus on the mind, body and spiritual well being of the participant. Classes will offer a variety in disciplines and methods of yoga practices. Styles of classes will vary from sun salutations, poses to a more aerobic flow of movements. ZUMBA A Latin-inspired dance class that incorporates international and pop music creating a dynamic, exciting, and effective workout. ZUMBA GOLD-Zumba Gold offers a lower impact and lower intensity experience. Ideal for those who are curious about Zumba but have hesitated to try it, for members who are new to group exercise classes, the "Fit After 50" crowd, young adults, and teens. Ideal for anyone needing modifications in their exercise routine. Zumbatomic(ages 4-12)Big & Lil Starz Combo-Specially choreographed, kidfriendly routines and music kids love. *Ballet For Kids Incorporates stretching and simple ballet techniques focused for youth ages. Call DAY OF to reserve a space. Beginner Belly Dance Learn fun and traditional middle eastern belly dancing techniques and choreography. Free to member, $5/class non-member. Body Sculpt A non aerobic muscle toning class designed to firm up and add definition using dumbbells and/or other exercise tools. Cardio Fusion - A cardio workout that can include step, choreographed varied intensity aerobics, or kickboxing, followed by a post cardio muscle strength segment for a total body workout. Core & Flexibility - Class designed to condition and strengthen abdominal and lower back muscles, as well as increase individual flexibility. Core Conditioning Using the Ball - Class designed to condition and strengthen abdominal and lower back muscles that incorporates exercises using the ball. Core Conditioning Core strengthening focused class that incorporates full body toning, and stretching exercises. Proper breathing techniques and flexibility are key portions of these classes. Flex & Stretch (AIS) Designed for improving flexibility, increasing range of motion of limbs, and improving blood circulation.
