II. Professional Information:
1- Overall aim of the course:
The aim of the course is to provide qualified practioners with a comprehensive understanding, experience and advanced practical skills in crown & bridge and appreciate how this inter-relate with other restorative skills. In addition, to develop an appreciation of the need for continuing professional and lifelong learning and the need to apply advances in relevant knowledge that will occur during the practicing life of the individual.
2- Intended Learning Outcomes of the course ( ILOs): A: Knowledge and understanding of:
1. Review of relevant basic sciences and inrelation to crown & bridge. 2. Diagnosis and planned treatment for patients requiring crown and bridge therapy. 3. Group discussion of cases. 4. Dental material science relevant to crown & bridge. 5. Concepts of crown and bridge. 6. Implants and how they are related to crown & bridge. 7. Ability to diagnose failed restoration and provide crown and bridge therapy and after care. 8. Current infection control procedures and their scientific basis. 9. Research methodologies. 10. knowledge of applied basic and systematic medical sciences. 11. Need and demand for Prosthodontic care for patients.
12. Effects of tooth loss on the oral environment.
B: Intellectual Skills:
1. Analyze clinical problems particularly in relation with crown & bridge. 2. Review critically the outcomes of treatment and make appropriate changes to original treatment plane. 3. Reflect critically on ones own practical and academic work. 4. Design and undertake a research project. 5. Analyze critically scientific data. 6. Appraise critically own and other research.
C: Professional and practical skills:
1. 2. 3. 4. Maintain a safe and infection-controlled environment. Have practical ability in crown & bridge commensurate to a specialist level. Work within the scope of the dental team. Communicate effectively with patients, team members and other specialists in dentistry. 5. Use clinic equipment during fixed partial denture delivery. 6. Restore lost functions of stomatognathic system namely mastication, speech, appearance and psychological comforts, by understanding biological, biomedical, bioengineering principles. 7. Perform clinical and Laboratory procedures with understanding of biomaterials, tissue conditions related to prosthesis and have competent dexterity and skill for performing clinical procedures in crown & bridge.
