Tutorial (Chapter 3)
1. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of reaction at the pin A and the reaction on the beam at C.
2. The truss is supported by a pin at A and a roller at B. Determine the support reactions.
3. Determine the components of reaction at the fixed support A. Neglect the thickness of the beam.
4. The 25-kg bar has a center of mass at G. If it is supported by a smooth peg at C, a roller at A, and cord AB, determine the reactions at these supports.
5. Determine the reactions at the smooth contact points A, B, and C on the bar.
6. Determine the horizontal and the vertical components of reaction at the pin A and the normal force at the smooth peg B on the member.
7. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of force at the pin A and the reaction at the rocker B of the curved beam.
8. The horizontal beam is supported by springs at its ends. If the stiffness of the spring at A is kA = 5 kN/m, determine the required stiffness of the spring at B so that if the beam is loaded with the 800 N it remains in the horizontal position. The springs are originally constructed so that the beam is in the horizontal position when it is unloaded.
9. Compare the force exerted on the toe and heel of a 600-N woman when she is wearing regular shoes and stiletto heels. Assume all her weight is placed on one foot and the reactions occur at points A and B as shown.
10. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of reactions at the pin A and the tension developed in cable BC used to support the steel frame.
