Multi-Org Setup for Oracle Applications

Multi-Org is an Oracle Applications enhancement that allows a single installation to support multiple business units with separate transaction data. It uses database views to create a security layer on top of the single installation. It allows business units to use different sets of books while procuring or selling products between units. The Multi-Org structure includes defining responsibilities, users, flexfields, currencies, calendars, sets of books, locations, business groups, and more. In Release 12, MOAC (Multi-Org Access Control) was introduced to allow users to access data from different operating units without switching responsibilities.

Multi - Org Setup

Multi-Org is a server-side (applications and database) enhancement that enables multiple business units in an enterprise to use a single installation of Oracle Applications products while keeping transaction data separate and secure. The Multi-Org enhancement uses native database views to build a security layer on top of a single installation of Oracle Applications. In Oracle Applications Release 11i,

Basic Business Needs The Multi-Org enhancement to Oracle Applications provides features necessary to satisfy the following basic business needs. You should be able to: Use a single installation of any Oracle Applications product to support any number of business units, even if those business units use different sets of books. Support any number of business units within a single installation of Oracle Applications. Secure access to data so that users can access only information that is relevant to them. Procure products from an operating unit that uses one set of book, but receive them from another operating unit using a different set of books. Sell products from an operating unit that uses one set of books, but ship them from another operating unit using a different set of books, automatically recording the appropriate intercompany sales by posting intercompany accounts payable and accounts receivable invoices. MOAC (Multi-Org Access Control)

In R12 we have a feature call MOAC (Multi-Org Access Control) which allows the user to submit requests, enter, view and access data of different Operating Unit without having to switch between responsibilities. MO: Operating Unit - It will restrict the access through responsibility to only one Operating Unit MO: Security Profile - It enables the user to get access on more than one Operating Unit by defining a security profile with Multiple Operating Unit and assigning it to the responsibility (If MO: Security Profile is set, then MO: Operating Unit is ignored by the system) MO: Default Operating Unit - It is used when we have more than one OU attached to a responsibility through security profile, among which you want a particular OU to be defaulted during transaction entry stages. When the responsibility is assigned with only one OU then that will become the default OU, without setting the profile option MO: Default Operating Unit HR: User Type - It limits the access on windows shared Oracle Human Resources and Other Applications HR: Business Group - We associate a Business Group with a responsibility using this profile option. It should be done for all responsibilities HR: Security Profile - When we define a new Business Group instead of modifying the predefined setup Business Group, you need to set the HR: Security Profile option to point the Security profile for the new Business Group. Oracle HRMS automatically creates a security profile with the Business Group name when you define a new Business Group
