The dream training I believe I should be having is Leadership Empowerment training. It is a key word whenever we go to any human resources conference these days. However, it takes more than bandying about the word to empower your staff. The essence of empowering your staff is to provide a facilitative style of leadership that enables us build up and encourage individual staff members to reach their full potential. This leads to many benefits for the company including higher staff morale, increased productivity, reduction in leave, and reduction in staff turnover. As a leader in this process, my job is to ensure my team has: A clear understanding of their boundaries Access to the information required to make confident decisions The ability and skills needed to work in smaller, self-managed teams

As part of this strategy leadership training can be the key to empower individuals and team members to tap into their full potential. The Need for this training In the corporate world is very important as it says, People work better when they set up boundaries. Here are some typical boundary issues at work: You are overwhelmed with demands that are made on you. Someone tells you they will do something and they don't do it. Roles, responsibilities, and expectations aren't clear. Co-workers continually come to meetings late and/or meetings are unproductive.

To overcome these problems we need a leader with effective leadership qualities who could set up boundaries and bring in an effective problem solving solution to help company grow and thrive in today's competitive marketplace and play a major role in its success. They must make decisions that will enhance the productivity of our organization

The objective of being part of this training is to learn how to be an effective leader and acquire the following attributes 1. Have a clear vision of yourself, others, and the world. Who are you? What do you stand for? What is your life purpose? How do you want to influence others? How do you want to contribute to yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, and the world? Answer these questions to formulate a concrete vision of yourself and your world. Then, start living your life as the leader who makes your vision a reality! 2. Know and utilize your strengths and gifts. You have unique gifts that you were born with and personal strengths youve developed over your lifetime. Realizing and utilizing these gifts and strengths will assist you in being a formidable leader. 3. Live in accordance with your morals and values. Making choices and taking actions out of accordance with your morals and values leaves you with a nagging Bad feeling. This feeling seeping in from your subconscious mind hinders your success in your career and your relationships. On the other hand, making choices and taking actions aligned with your morals and values helps you succeed almost effortlessly. People sense integrity and will naturally respect your opinion and leadership.

4. Lead others with inclusiveness and compassion. The greatest leaders are those who include everyone in their sphere of influence by recognizing each persons greatest value. To be one of these leaders, look beyond the obvious and see others with insight and compassion. Many of history's greatest leaders have admitted that they rose to the top because another leader recognized and harnessed their potential. 5. Set definitive goals and follow concrete action plans. You have to know where your destination is before you can map out a plan to get there. To improve your leadership skills, first set specific life goals with appropriate timelines. Design your goals by moving backwards from the end of your life to the present week. Then, formulate action plans you can commit to that will get you to where you want to be. 6. Maintain a positive attitude. No one respects a grumpy or negative person. With a positive attitude you are looking at the bright side of life. People are naturally attracted to you when you have a positive attitude. By being positive, you will lead a happier life, as well as be surrounded by other positive people. You will also magically attract exciting offers and possibilities. 7. Improve communication skills. Having great leadership skills includes your being able to clearly and specifically communicate your vision, goals, skills, intentions, and expectations to others. This also includes your ability to listen to what other people are consciously or unconsciously communicating. To become a great communicator, continually strive to improve your verbal, nonverbal, and listening skills . 8. Motivate others to greatness. A leader is as powerful as his team. As a leader, you will want to surround yourself with a powerful team by assisting others in recognizing and utilizing their strengths, gifts, and potential. Motivating others to their own greatness will improve the group energy, increase the vitality of your projects, and move you forward toward achieving your goals and vision. 9. Be willing to admit and learn from failures and weaknesses. Face it No one is perfect, and everyone has made a mistake or two in their lives! The most successful leaders know that the key to success is not in avoiding falling or failing, but to learn from their mistakes. As a strong leader, you will also be able to communicate your weaknesses to your team, so that you and your team can appoint someone who excels at that particular task or activity. 10. Continue to educate and improve yourself. Great leaders continue to improve themselves in every possible way. The person who thinks he is an expert, has a lot more to learn. Never stop learning. Be receptive to everyones perceptions and information from around the world and beyond. Grow.grow.grow.learn.learn.learn...

Effective leadership motivates individuals to accomplish goals or make positive changes in their lives and work. Empowerment through leadership causes individuals to meet challenges, take responsibility and become involved in what they are doing. The Association for Supervision and Curriculum development describes student empowerment as student ownership in relation to learning. Moreover, ownership correlates to learning outcomes for the student. Combining a student empowerment approach with your leadership philosophy, therefore, has numerous benefits for students. The benefits we can get by acquiring leadership empowerment training are as follows: Evaluations In the student evaluation process, the teacher has historically provided a grade for student performance and the student has not taken any part in the evaluation. However, students can become empowered through becoming involved in the evaluation process if the teacher, as leader, encourages that involvement. What this means is that the teacher works with the student so that the student comprehends what he is being evaluated for, what skills or knowledge he needs to strengthen and what his current strengths are. Through an understanding of these factors, the teacher can work with the student to lead him toward making decisions about the steps that will be taken to achieve his goals successfully. Control When student empowerment is used as part of the teacher leadership philosophy, the student is capable of taking control of her educational progress. The teacher, as leader, guides the student to determine what the student will accomplish over a given period of time and how those accomplishments will take place, such as enrolling in certain courses, or meeting certain learning objectives. The student then takes control of learning by striving to fulfill her part of the contract, which is beneficial for the student in achieving short- and long-term goals. Expectations Teacher-leaders can empower students by allowing them to understand what the expectations are in education. These expectations may involve a set of classroom rules, for example. Classroom rules provide guidelines for the student so that the student knows how to act, what is valued in the classroom and what the potential consequences of not following the rules may be. Once the student understands the expectations, she can decide as an individual whether to adhere to those rules or not, having the power to make that determination as an individual. When students understand what is expected of them, most will elect to follow the rules, which creates a more effective classroom environment and educational experience for all. Thinking Skills Critical thinking skills are those that allow students to connect concepts. The more those students can connect one concept to another, the greater their knowledge becomes. Moreover, critical thinking challenges students to think outside the box, or begin to develop their own theories and ideas about a topic that is not part of the mainstream thought. This type of thinking not only expands the knowledge base of the student, but of the entire class, as it encourages discussion and an examination of new ideas. These thinking skills empower students to gather new information, evaluate that information and themselves and build their confidence as learners. Overcoming Obstacles Each student has his own learning problems, challenges or goals. These factors will often include obstacles that must be overcome in order for the learning to be achieved. Yet, when the teacher-leader

uses student empowerment as part of the teaching philosophy, the student can develop the determination to overcome obstacles and be a more successful learner. This is because empowerment builds selfconfidence, self-esteem and a sense of self-worth that can lead the student to believe that she can conquer problems in a positive manner. Consequently the student is not afraid to be creative in solving problems and has the potential to benefit in learning, as well as through her life.
