Field visit report
Introductions
The field visit to the Pichavaram Mangrove Forest is an important educational experience for
humanities students. Pichavaram is one of the largest mangrove forests in India and is known for
its rich biodiversity and connection with the lives of local communities.
Mangrove forests grow in coastal areas where fresh water mixes with sea water, creating a
unique natural environment.
During the field visit, students can observe different types of mangrove species such as
Rhizophora, Avicennia, Bruguiera, and Excoecaria.
These plants have special features that help them grow in salty and muddy conditions.
Mangroves play an important role in protecting coastal areas from floods and cyclones and also
support fishing activities that provide livelihood for local people.
