SAINS Year 4 Students

How Animals protect themselves

Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify the special characteristics in animals that protect them from danger.
2. Compare and contrast the different ways animals protect themselves.
3. Discuss how the specific characteristics and behaviors of different animals
help to protect them.
4. Produce brochure about different ways of animals protect themselves.
5. Display products of brochure in the gallery tour.
6. Reflect on the project.

Students are required to complete 3 tasks in this Project Based Learning :

TASK 1
Students have to do a site visit in National Zoo during the progress of doing this
project. Site visit is carried out in order to give opportunity for students to learn
knowledge by approaching to a real environment. Along the site visit, students
are required to collect data by:
1. Taking photo about the surroundings and the animals that use their
specific way to protect themselves from danger.
2. Making an observation and taking notes on how animals protect
themselves from danger.
3. Carrying out an interview to zookeeper to collect related information.

TASK 2

Each group need to produce a brochure after visiting to the National Zoo. This
activity will help to improve students’ organization and classifying skills. By doing
brochure, each group is required to:

1. Choose one type of specific characteristic of animals that they use to


protect themselves.

2. Entitle the brochure

3. Pictures of animals

4. Explanations of how animals protect themselves

5. Unit and group names

Students are needed to complete the brochure according to several conditions


which are:
1. Attractiveness & organization
2. Accuracy of content
3. Writing - Mechanics: spelling, sentence Form, grammar, punctuation,
capitalization
4. Graphics/ Pictures

Each group need to display their brochure in the gallery tour.


TASK 3
Students do an overall reflection.
