} Songs and ChantsIntroduction
The Longman Children’s Picture Dictionary presents 800 words
‘ond phrases within 50 beautifully ilustrated and photographed
Topics. The dictionary is divided into two sections. The first section
contains 50 double-page illustrations, The second section.
contains an alphabetical word list, a thematic word list, a dialogs
index and the complete lyrics for the 50 songs and chants.
Activity
Each Topic has one or more activities. Use
these to practice the vocabulary words or
personalize the Topic. Most of the activities
present an idea that can be expanded upon
by the teacher. Answers to all the activities ore
in the Teacher's Resource Book.
Some of the activity types include:
© counting
+ miming
* categorizing
* ordering alphabetically
* searching for information in the picture
* finding the odd-one-out
* talking about yourself and asking others
about themselves
Dialogs
The dialogs use many of the vocabulary words
in short, meaningful exchanges. They provide
practice in some of the most common functions
of language, such as asking for information or
stating preferences. Many of the dialogs can be
used for role-play. Words in the dialogs and
numbers in the word lists are color-coded,
icating which words can be substituted into
each dialog
Songs and Chants
Each Topic contains a song or chant and its
karaoke version to help children practice the
vocabulary words in a lively and creative way.
Lyrics to all the songs and chants can be found
in section two of the dictionary.
Hidden Object
One item from Topic 1 Alphabet is hidden on
each double-page illustration of the
dictionary. Finding the hidden object can be
used as a fun warm-up activity. Answers to
the location of all the hidden objects are in
the Teacher's Resource Book.
