Analog-to-digital conversion is an electronic process that transforms a continuous analog signal into a discrete digital signal. It works by using a comparator to determine whether to turn on individual bits in the binary output number based on the amplitude of the analog input signal. The conversion allows analog signals to be digitized so they can be processed by digital devices.

Analog-to-Digital Conversion
An electronic integrated circuit which
transforms a signal from analog
(continuous) to digital (discrete) form.
The basic principle of operation is to use the
comparator principle to determine whether
or not to turn on a particular bit of the binary
number output.
