Geometry Concepts in the Park

This document discusses various geometry concepts seen in a park setting. It defines congruent segments as segments of the same length, such as the vertical bars in a railing. It also defines obtuse angles as those measuring more than 90 degrees, such as the angle between two pieces of rock wall. Parallel lines are defined as lines that lie on the same plane and are always the same distance apart, such as the three bars in the image.

Geometry in the Park

Congruent segments: segments that are the same

measure (length).
Each vertical bar in the railing is the same length
therefore they are congruent segments.

Obtuse angle: An obtuse angle is an angle that measure

more than 90.

The two pieces of the rock wall form an obtuse angle.

Perpendicular Lines: lines that intersect each other at

a right angle (90).

The top beam and the bar small vertical bar in the center
of the picture are parallel lines.

Parallel Lines: Lines are parallel if they lie on the same

plane, and are the same distance apart over their entire
length.
The three bars are parallel lines.

An object longer than a meter must be more than 100

centimeters.
The fireman pole is longer than a meter.

Supplementary Angles: angles that add up to 180.

The railing of the stairs form supplementary angles.

Circumference of a Circle: is the length around the

circle.

The black line is the circumference around the circle.

The perimeter of an object is the measurement around

the object.

An object shorter than a centimeter must be less than 10

millimeters in length.

The diameter of the head of this screw is shorter than a

centimeter.

Undefined Slope: vertical lines have an undefined slope

because all points on the line lie on the same xcoordinate.

The pole has an

undefined slope.

Right Angle: An

Negative Slope: demonstrates a negative correlation

between the two varibales of a function.
The railing of the stair case forms a negative slope.
