Being Unusually Good

Directions

B.U.G. stands for Being Unusually Good. This is the perfect system when
your class needs a new incentive program. Print off the bug cards on card
stock and cut apart. Students can earn a B.U.G. when you catch them being
usually good. Remind them that they can't ask for B.U.G.s and can't tell you
when they are showing Buggy behavior. The more often they are Buggy,
the greater their chances are that you will catch them and give them a
B.U.G. You can organize B.U.G.s however it fits your class. I used a bulletin
board with all of my students numbers listed with a push pin under each
number. I punched holes at the top of the B.U.G. cards. When students
earn a B.U.G., they hung it on their push pin. Five B.U.G.s = prize Prizes
include things such as: computer time, sit by a friend at lunch, use gel pens
for one assignment, use my glitter crayons, etc. When they redeemed
their 5 B.U.G.s for a prize, they took the cards off of their pin and began
trying to earn enough B.U.G.s for their next prize.
There were several benefits to this system.
This system cost very little to set up.
I reused the B.U.G. cards when students redeemed them for a prize.
I love it when students earn their prize at different times than their
classmates. It was a reminder to the other students that they need to
show buggy behavior when a classmate earned a prize.
Students get a frog when they show physical aggression, lie, cheat, or steal.
What does a frog do to bugs? Eats them! If a student gets a frog, they
lose all of their B.U.G.s.
It's a simple, easy to use system! I hope your class enjoys it!

Being Unusually Good

Behavior Incentive System

I set up my system on a small bulletin board. I assign my

students a number. Assigning numbers has two benefits. I can
use the same numbers each year which saves time when setting
up my classroom in August. The numbers give privacy when
parents or other adults visit our class. The visitors do not know
who has earned a frog or who has earned more bugs.
Under each number is a pushpin. Students hang their bugs or
frogs on their pin. At the end of the day, I send home notes to
the students who got a frog.
