About this Issue
Hi Folks!
Tim happy to say that we've got another good issue here,
one that should have something of interest for just about
everyone. Over the years I've learned that many of you
make projects to earn money (even if it's for that private little “slush” fund),
If you are one of those people, there’s ant article in this issue I think you'Tl
really appreciate "Selling My Work” by Wayne Fowler. The article is
chock-full of down-to-earth tips for making good money with your wood
cralting, talents, I happen to know that Wayne does quite well selling his
unique scroll saw creations at eraft shows, and I'm sure his article will
prove useful to many of you. Wayne and his son, Jacob, also team up (0 pro-
vide two excellent projects in this issue—the Faleon and the “Las Vegas”
‘Tiger. In ons next issue, Wayne presents a great feature article about acquir=
ing local woods.
I'd also like to acknowledge the support ['ve gotten from Fred Martin
regarding this issue, A few months ago, Fred sent me a photo of his intarsia
eagle, In order (0 get everything to me en time for this issue Fred had to
work quickly while he and his wife were moving (she’s in the Canadian mil-
itary), Despite the difficulties involved, Fred got all the necessary materials
to me on time, and for this T'm grateful. Thank you, Fred!
If you are interested in compound cutting on the scroll saw, eheek out
John Polhemus’ Compound-Cut Omameats on page 24. As usual, John goes
the extra mile here—he provides not just the pattems and photos for cutting
the ornaments, but he also gives us a pattern and photos for making an oma-
‘ment hanger. Perhaps most significantly, he shows us a nifty technique for
this type of compound cutting. in which the scrap wood is placed back
inside the ornament and then clamped in place. This provides maximum
support while cutting out the other side of the ornament, He even provides
us with a paitemn for making this clamp! In his own quiet, behind-the-seenes
sway, John has had a big impact upon Creative Woodworks & Crafts, and
will continue to do so.
As promised, there will be sixicen additional pages in cach issue of
Creative Woodworks. beginning with the next issue. This will definitely
make every issue more interesting and more valuable—mote projects, more
features, more reader contribution, and more space to flesh-out each project.
Stay tuned, and until the next issue, Happy Holidays!
Sincerely.
Abed
Bechea.

Introduction
The popularity of cutting three-dimensional figures is
growing at a steady pace and since the leopard theme
has been popular recently, | thought this project would
be well tecsived. Fist reduce the pattern by 10% in
orcler to make the female leopard. This project will be @
three-sided cut, but hove no fear-the following steps will
guide you To your masterpiece!
INSTRUCTIONS.
Making the Leopard
Step 1. This is very impor
fant! Set your scroll saw
blade fo exactly 0°. The
piclure shows thet the
blade fs set fo 1°, and
even this can make a
difference in cutting 3D
projects,
Step 2. Round over the
back of the Artisan No.

@ hone. This will help 10
eliminate ony frictional
heat thot will build up
when making very fight
tums in thick wood
Step 3. Cul the patiern apart,
separating the jop. iront.
Gnd side views. Use 3M Soray
