Parents and Guardians,

Our names are Mrs. Thomas and Mr. Harrison and we are so excited to spend this school
year working with you and your children! We are firm believers in keeping a strong, open line of
communication between home and school. We also strive to create an atmosphere in our classroom
that encourages learning and friendship. Second grade is a fun year filled with lots of new things to
learn. It is our goal for your children to leave this grade feeling confident in their curriculum and social
skills.

Here is a little information to get to know us better.

My name is Mrs. Thomas and I am thrilled to be starting my second year here at Smiley
Elementary. I graduated with my degree in Elementary Education from Auburn, Alabama in May 2012. I
am originally from North Alabama, but moved to Ludowici in 2013 when my husband got stationed at
Fort Stewart. We have loved our time here so far. We have a dog named Tucker that Im sure
your children will here many stories about throughout the year. I love to read, craft, and explore new
places.

My name is Mr. Harrison and this will be my second year teaching, but my first year at
Smiley Elementary. I graduated from LaGrange College with a degree in Early Childhood Education in
2013. I am originally from Ludowici and I will be coaching middle school football and baseball this year. I
love being active and playing sports. I look forward to a wonderful year.

better than anyone else in the world we would love to get to know a little bit about them
from you. What makes him or her so amazing? What does he or she struggle with? What
are his or her hobbies and special talents? Are there any holidays he or she doesnt
celebrate?
We are asking you to write us about your child on the following form. If we were
to sit down with you for the next twenty minutes over coffee, what would you want to
share with us about your child? This information is confidential and is only for us. It gives
us a whole new understanding into who your child is and what makes him or her tick. For
example, if we know Joe loves to draw, we might be able to have him use his talents on
a class project. If I know Morgan is afraid of spiders, we can be sensitive to her fears.
Yes, we will learn a lot about your child from our time together, but why wait?
Please know that we are NOT judging your writing. We dont care about spelling or
grammar, just what you have to say. If you feel more comfortable, have your child write
what you say and make it a team effort. Remember it can be as long or as short as you
want.
