Determine the Height Project Lindsey Thurber First I walked to the bottom of a really tall tree and then
turned and walked 45ft away from it then turned and faced the tree. I held the inclinometer to my eye and looked at a nook in the tree to see how high in the tree it was. I had my boyfriend look at the angle the inclinometer was at. After that, I drew a nice picture and labeled the angle I got and the distance between me and the tree. And then I used the tan of 29 to figure out how tall the tree was from my eye level after I found that out I added my height and the height of X to see how tall that nook was from the ground.

For the second part I picked a building my friend works in. I started at a random point and looked for the top of the building and recorded the angle it was from my eye then I walked 40 ft. backwards and then recorded the angle from that position from my eye. I drew a detailed and labeled picture to help organize my problem. Then I used the tan of my second angle to figure out what the hypotenuse of the right triangle would be. After I found this out I used the sin of my first angle to give me the height of the building from my eye. Then I added my height to get the full height of the building from ground to top.

Reflective Writing My thinking of how math is used in everyday stuff has not changed. This project helped develop my theory of how much math is really used in the world today. Because it gave me a new look on things that I didnt think would be easy to figure out but it was very easy and helpful. This kind of stuff is used by different companies like contractors or architects to help solve problems or figure out missing data or find out what length something has to be for it to work out with other triangles.
