The basic floor plan is defined by the size of the shrine, the size of the sanctum, the distribution of the building mass, and by the pradakshina (path for circumambulation), if there is one
Dravidian style
Gate-pyramids or Gopurams In the south enclosure walls were built around the whole complex and along these walls, ideally set along the east-west and north-south axes, elaborate and often magnificent gateways called gopurams led the devotees into the sacred courtyard.
Entrance porches has no columns In the north the shikhara remains the most prominent element of the temple and the gateway is usually modest.
