Since 1986, the North Luangwa Conservation Programme (NLCP) has been dedicated to safeguarding the vast North Luangwa landscape, its people and its wildlife, including Zambia’s only population of black rhinos. A group of resilient and determined women are at the forefront of these conservation efforts.

Historically, women have had limited opportunities in wildlife conservation, often underrepresented in decision-making roles. But NLCP is changing this narrative. Through collaboration with communities in and around the landscape, NLCP has amplified their efforts to promote female education and empowerment over the past five years.

Their targeted projects are breaking down barriers, addressing the gender gap, and enabling more women to participate in wildlife conservation.

This initiative has inspired many women to pursue careers in wildlife protection. Their involvement not only supports them and their families financially but also fosters personal growth and career advancement opportunities.

This World Ranger Day, we aim to raise £5,000 to support North Luangwa’s female empowerment programme. Your donation will fund initiatives that provide employment, education, and leadership opportunities for local women in conservation roles. By empowering these women, we protect endangered species like rhinos, uplift communities and promote gender equality.

Help us make a difference. Donate today and help us build a future where women and rhinos thrive together.

“The deliberate effort that is shown has really helped me grow personally. I am empowered every time there is an opportunity to improve my skills. The project is also flexible with what assignments are given to new and breastfeeding mothers, and this has enabled many of us mothers to continue providing for our families whilst still executing our duties.”
