Green Bay signs long snapper and two cornerbacks, releases three players

The Green Bay Packers have signed LS Peter Bowden (BAO-den), CB Don Callis (CAL-iss) and CB LJ Davis and released CB Zyon Gilbert, FB Henry Pearson and K James Turner. The transactions were announced Tuesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Bowden (6-2, 239), a rookie out of the University of Wisconsin, was signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent on April 30, but was released on July 23. He was at Wisconsin for five years and saw action in all 39 games for the Badgers over the past three seasons (2021-23). In 2021, Bowden handled the snapping for all kicks and over the past two seasons he was the long snapper for all special-teams action. He was named a Patrick Mannelly Award semifinalist in 2022 and a finalist in 2023. Last season, Bowden also helped K Nathanial Vakos earn honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. He will wear No. 49 for the Packers.

Callis (5-10, 174), a rookie who spent four years at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma (2019-22), and one season at Troy University (2023), was a tryout player at the Packers' rookie minicamp in May. He played in 27 games at ECU, recording 77 tackles (47 solo), three tackles for a loss, three interceptions, 20 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Callis saw action in 14 games for Troy and posted 26 tackles (13 solo), a tackle for a loss, a sack, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He will wear No. 30 for the Packers.

Davis (6-1, 203), a first-year player out of Northern Arizona University, originally signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 15, 2023, after a rookie camp tryout, but was released at the end of training camp. He started his college career at Southern Utah (2017-21) and finished at NAU (2022), where he appeared in 11 games with six starts and recorded 32 tackles (20 solo), two interceptions and nine passes defensed. Davis played in 32 games at Southern Utah, registering 44 tackles (35 solo), two tackles for a loss, one interception and 11 passes defensed. He will wear No. 40 for the Packers.
