Whether you’re feeling the love or flying solo, there’s a stream for you.

Is there any holiday more divisive than Valentine’s Day? For every cornball romantic going all-in on the festivities, there’s a person who wishes they could snuff out the mood lighting over every candlelit dinner and paint all the roses black. And that’s not to mention everyone in between!

No matter where you fall on the V-Day appreciation spectrum, one thing’s always true: It’s a great day to watch a movie. And there are just as many good picks for a Valentine’s Day stream as there are possible attitudes to have ab 4000 out the holiday itself. In preparation for the sugary-sweetest day of the year, we’ve rounded up a list of options that address different kinds of love, from a wide variety of perspectives, styles, and genres.

If you want even more options to choose from, you can check out the Match With Your Perfect Love Story collection on Netflix, where you can browse categories inspired by modern dating culture, like “Looking for someone who keeps it real,” “Loves to travel,” or “Searching for a partner in crime.” There’s also a new list of Milestone Movies to swoon over, including 13 Going on 30, Notting Hill, An Affair to Remember, and more. And in addition to the cinematic celebrations in your queue, in-person Valentine's Day screenings will also be available at the Paris Theater in New York, perfect for an evening out.

So whether you’re a hopeless romantic (or even a hopeful one), an anti-commercial conscientious objector, a Galentine’s Day observer, or a hater of all things pink and red and heart-shaped (but a secret lover of love itself), there’s a perfect Valentine’s flick for you.

The heady rush of young love takes center stage in Craig Johnson’s teen rom-com. Daniel Doheny stars as Alex Truelove, a high school student planning to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, Claire (Madeline Weinstein). Always Be My Maybe

Sometimes it takes a decade or two and a celebrity fling to realize that what you’ve always wanted was right in front of you the whole time. Right? Anyway, that could be the lesson of Nahnatchka Khan’s charming rom-com, in which Ali Wong and Randall Park (both of whom also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Golamco) play childhood friends whose paths diverge wildly before crossing again after 16 years. Wong and Park are both winning romantic leads, but a certain A-lister threatens to steal the show in a hilarious supporting turn.

Damsel

It seems like a familiar fairy tale at first: A handsome prince asks for a poor, pretty maiden’s hand in marriage, and she’s whisked away to prepare for a fabulous wedding and — surely! — a happily ever after. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s 2024 fantasy, however, subverts that old-fashioned formula with a dark twist. After the wedding, the young bride (Millie Bobby Brown) is promptly offered to a dragon as a sacrifice, at the behest of her new mother-in-law (Robin Wright), to fulfill an ancient pact. Knowing that no knight in shining armor is coming to save her, the new princess must use her wits to fight her way back to safety — and to prevent the royal family from taking another victim. Queue it up if you’re sick of the old storybooks.

Fair Play

All’s fair in love and finance. And in Chloe Domont’s 2023 erotic thriller, Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich play dirty in both arenas. Domont’s debut feature follows a pair of ambitious hedge fund analysts conducting a passionate romance that they’re careful to conceal from their colleagues. When one of them is promoted, however, the tension between them builds to a breaking point — the only question is whether their relationship will kill their careers, or the other way around.

A Family Affair

Back in the ’90s, Notting Hill imagined a love story between a normal person (albeit one with the charm of Hugh Grant) and an A-list movie star. In 2024, Richard LaGravenese’s A Family Affair took that premise a little further: What if a normal person who happens to be your mother were to fall in love with an A-list movie star who happens to be your boss? Joey King stars in the rom-com as a beleaguered assistant stuck between her widowed author mom (Nicole Kidman) and her selfish actor employer (Zac Efron). Who says Valentine’s Day isn’t for the whole family?

Girlfriend's Day

If you reject Valentine’s Day as a legitimate holiday and find it to be a completely contrived corporate event devoid of real feeling, there’s still a movie that lets you elegantly refuse to observe it! Look no further than Girlfriend’s Day, Michael Paul Stephenson’s offbeat, noir-tinged dramedy in which Bob Odenkirk plays a creatively blocked greeting card writer who hopes to turn his luck around by winning a best-card contest for a made-up holiday.

Hit Man

Richard Linklater became known for romance with his Before trilogy, but he put a fresh spin (or two or three) on the genre with 2024’s Hit Man, which sees his main character change not countries but identities. Glen Powell stars in the screwball-romance black-comedy crime film (co-written by Linklater and Powell, and inspired by a true story) as Gary, a mild-mannered psychology professor in New Orleans with a highly unusual side gig: He assists the NOPD in sting operations by posing as a hit man, each time assuming a new persona tailored to his mark. When he falls for one of his would-be clients (Adria Arjona), however, Gary’s game of make-believe starts to get dangerously real.

How to Be Single

This time of year, when there’s so much fuss being made about pairing off, it can be hard to know exactly How to Be Single — or to remember that there are countless different ways to do it. Luckily, Christian Ditter’s 2016 romantic comedy is here to help. Dakota Johnson leads a starry ensemble cast of young urbanites all navigating the single life in their own ways, whether that’s recovering from a breakup (Johnson), approaching online dating as both a science and a full-time job (Alison Brie), contemplating single motherhood (Leslie Mann), or embracing the sexual freedom of being unattached (Rebel Wilson). The ladies’ roster of love interests includes Nicholas Braun, Damon Wayans Jr., Jake Lacy, and Jason Mantzoukas.

Lady Chatterley's Lover

D.H. Lawrence’s 1929 novel — which was banned for obscenity in the United States for three decades due to the use of certain four-letter words — gets a lush adaptation in Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre’s romantic drama. Emma Corrin stars as Lady Constance Chatterley, an upper-class woman whose wealthy husband is paralyzed from the waist down. Jack O’Connell plays the lover of the title, Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper with whom she has a passionate affair, which opens her eyes to what she wants out of life.

Love, Guaranteed

This one goes out to the people who are looking for love — especially the ones looking online. When Nick (Damon Wayans Jr.) fails to form a connection after 1,000 dates through a dating site called Love, Guaranteed, he sues the company for failing to deliver. From there, Mark Steven Johnson’s rom-com poses this question: If Nick starts to fall for the lawyer (Rachael Leigh Cook) representing him in the lawsuit, then did the website technically (if indirectly) do its job?

The Old Guard

Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Old Guard (based on Greg Rucka’s comic book of the same name) might be an action-packed superhero movie, but there’s also a piercing love story woven into its fabric. Charlize Theron’s Andromache “Andy” of Scythia leads a group of immortal mercenaries evading capture, all while welcoming a newcomer (KiKi Layne) into their ranks. Two of Andy’s small gang, Nicky (Luca Marinelli) and Joe (Marwan Kenzari), are a couple whose romance stretches back centuries and promises to last for their eternity on Earth. (This includes, of course, the upcoming sequel.)

Our Souls at Night

A pair of legends bring a tender love story to life in Ritesh Batra’s romantic drama, based on Kent Haruf’s novel of the same name. Fifty years after Barefoot in the Park, Robert Redford and Jane Fonda team up once again, this time playing widowed neighbors in a small city in Colorado. Striking up a friendship, they decide to start sleeping together at night — completely platonically — to combat their loneliness. Soon, however, real romantic feelings develop out of their friendly arrangement.

Someone Great

A very wise woman once said to her three best girlfriends at a coffee shop, “Maybe we could be each other’s soulmates. And then we can let men be just these great, nice guys to have fun with.” It’s not a bad idea! And in Someone Great, a next-genera 4000 tion group of NYC BFFs finds strength and fulfillment in the bonds of friendship. Starring Gina Rodriguez, Brittany Snow, and DeWanda Wise as a trio of besties on the eve of the rest of their lives, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s debut feature proves that a tale of friendship is its own kind of love story.

tick, tick...BOOM!

Love in its many forms echoes throughout Tick, Tick… Boom!, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s semi-autobiographical musical. In an Oscar-nominated performance, Andrew Garfield stars as the Rent creator on the verge of turning 30 — years before that culture-shifting show came to be. Fueled by his love for the people around him, as well as his love for the exhilarating, maddening, vital creative process itself, he strives to find his place in the world as an artist.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

As if To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before weren’t sweet enough on its own (and Susan Johnson’s teen rom-com is among the loveliest of the genre), it’s also got two whole sequels on deck to fill out a full-blown candy-coated Valentine’s marathon. The saga of romantic teenager Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and her surprisingly sensitive hot-jock love interest, Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), opens with a classic fake-relationship setup. The sequels portray challenges with romantic rivals (P.S. I Still Love You) and graduation angst (Always and Forever).

Your Place or Mine

Time to add a new title to the Valentine’s lineup! The rom-com Your Place or Mine marks the feature directorial debut of Aline Brosh McKenna (who previously wrote The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses, among other films, and co-created Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). The filmmaker recruited genre legends Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher to star in her film as a pair of best friends who live on opposite coasts and operate on opposite rhythms. When they switch houses for a week, the change in perspective yields surprising revelations.

Y Tu Mamá También

Now regarded as a classic of Mexican cinema, Alfonso Cuarón’s Oscar-nominated 2001 road movie isn’t romantic in the canned, chocolates-and-flowers kind of way; rather, the coming-of-age dramedy is as sexy and spontaneous as movies can be. Set against the backdrop of the political turmoil in Mexico in the late ’90s, Y tu mama también stars real-life pals Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna as two teenage best friends whose road trip with an unhappily married twentysomething woman (Maribel Verdú) becomes an unforgettable experience. “When you come out of the cinema watching this, you just want to live, and have sex, and enjoy and love people,” García Bernal said in his 2024 Criterion Closet visit.
