LATEST NEWS

Aug. 11: RHP (right side tightness) to see team doctor
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Eovaldi left Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Yankees early due to right side tightness. The right-hander left after three innings and 81 pitches (50 strikes). He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks.

General manager Chris Young said the following day that Eovaldi would return to Texas to see team physician Dr. Keith Meister before seeing if he’s able to make his next start in Boston.

“The hope is that this is something that can be managed,” Young said. “He's feeling OK today. Actually, better than he was, I think, a couple of days ago. It's something he thinks he can pitch through. We're just not sure we want to make him do so. He's so important to us that we're not sure we want to push him. We may end up pushing him back or skipping a start. We don't think it's an IL at this point, but we will clearly decide that once he sees Dr. Meister.”

Aug. 11: RHP selected from Triple-A Round Rock; RHP placed on 15-day injured list (right shoulder fatigue)
Festa signed a Minor League contract with the Rangers on July 8. He was then granted his release, but he re-signed on Aug. 5. Festa has allowed three runs (one earned) in 8 2/3 innings with Round Rock this season. He has posted a 4.66 ERA over 90 appearances (89 in relief) in his Major League career with the Mariners (2018-19, ‘22-23) and Mets (‘24).

This will be Sborz’s third shoulder-related injury stint this season, though he has posted a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings out of the bullpen when healthy.

Aug. 11: LHP recalled from Triple-A Round Rock; LHP designated for assignment
Pennington, acquired from the Royals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen on July 29, has posted a 2.13 ERA across 39 appearances (37 in relief) between Triple-A Omaha and Round Rock this season.

Burke had a 9.22 ERA over 13 relief appearances for the Rangers this season.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (right shoulder fatigue)
Expected return:
TBD
Scherzer was placed on the injured list on Aug. 2 with right shoulder fatigue. He had labored through his previous start on July 30, throwing 68 pitches in four innings and allowing three runs. General manager Chris Young said on Aug. 11 that the 40-year-old would return to Texas to get re-evaluated before figuring out the next steps for him.

“I know he's frustrated, but [he] just hasn't turned the corner with his shoulder,” Young said. “Our hope is that maybe we get back and explore some other diagnostic measures and get him back on the mound. But I don't know what the timetable is going to be.” (Last updated: Aug. 11)

RHP (right shoulder fatigue)
Expected return: Late August
This will be Sborz’s third shoulder-related injury stint this season, though he has posted a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings out of the bullpen when healthy. General manager Chris Young said Sborz will head back to Texas and get an injection that will hopefully calm down the fatigue and have him in a better place going forward.

“Our hope is this is a 15-day setback for Josh, and that we'll have him pretty close to that 15-day time period,” Young said. (Last updated: Aug. 11)

LHP Jacob Latz (left forearm tightness)
Expected return
: TBD
Latz was placed on the injured list on Aug. 4, retroactive to Aug. 3, with left forearm tightness. He last pitched on Aug. 2 in a shaky outing, allowing two earned runs on three hits and walking three over two innings.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the Rangers don't expect Latz's injury to be a long-term concern, and they feel confident he will not need Tommy John surgery. The lefty has pitched in 46 games this year, posting a 3.71 ERA in 43 2/3 innings. (Last updated: Aug. 4)

RHP (right groin strain)
Expected return: TBD
Gray exited his start in Toronto on July 28 before throwing a pitch. He initially tweaked his groin during his pregame bullpen, but decided to pitch through it until the pain worsened. The right-hander took the hill for warmups, but quickly called over the club’s trainer. Bruce Bochy removed him shortly thereafter. Gray was placed on the IL amid a flurry of roster moves on July 29, and Bochy said on Monday in St. Louis that he expects Gray to miss about a month as he recovers. (Last updated: July 29)

60-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (right UCL repair surgery)
Expected return: Late August
deGrom faced hitters for the first time on Aug. 9 back in Arlington. Manager Bruce Bochy said his ace “felt good.”

“Jacob threw the ball real well,” Bochy said. “High 90s, good command, using all his pitches. He was excited about facing hitters. That was the next step. We’ll do this two or three more times, and then he'll go on rehab [assignment]. But yes, he came out really well yesterday.”

General manager Chris Young continues to note that timelines are fluid regarding injuries. But he also said deGrom is progressing well in rehab with an eye on returning in August.

“The goal is to pitch this year,” deGrom said on Aug. 3. “The goal is to get back out there and help this team and hopefully help us get to the playoffs. … I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.” (Last updated: Aug. 10)

OF (lower back soreness)
Expected return: 2025
Carter, who was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 29, is not expected to play again this season after his last exam by a specialist revealed his sore back needs more rest.

General manager Chris Young said on July 30 that Carter was unlikely to play again this season. Carter said on Aug. 4 that he must avoid rotational activities for now, with the hope that he can start swinging a bat by late September or early October.

Carter missed seven games from May 11-17 with back soreness, but he initially returned without an IL stint. The Rangers then placed Carter on the injured list on May 28. While a return looked possible when he rejoined the club around the All-Star break and ramped up activities, Carter hasn’t felt healthy enough for a rehab stint, which prompted the shutdown. RHP (right shoulder sprain)
Expected return: TBD
The Rangers announced on June 23 that Winn would go to the Major League 15-day IL with right shoulder discomfort, retroactive to June 18. Winn was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on June 18, but informed the club that he was experiencing shoulder discomfort after he rejoined the Express. Team doctors then determined that he had a right shoulder sprain, and he was moved to the 60-day IL on June 26.

His last outing before the injury was with the big league club, so his option is now voided. (Last updated: June 26)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: TBD
Coleman was selected by the Rangers in the 2023 Rule 5 Draft from the Yankees. He did not pitch in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. In 2022, Coleman was named the Eastern League “Reliever of the Year” after going 2-3 with 15 saves and a 2.86 ERA across 35 relief appearances for Double-A Somerset. (Last updated: March 9)
