The Tokyo Multilingual Consultation Navi (TMC Navi), a consultation hotline for non-Japanese residents in Tokyo, can now be used free of charge thanks to a new toll-free phone number. The service is part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s efforts to facilitate life for the city’s non-Japanese population. It is run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation “TSUNAGARI,” which also operates the Tokyo Intercultural Portal Site( External link ), an online resource aimed at foreign residents.
TMC Navi seeks to provide information over the phone for non-Japanese residents who may have questions about daily life after arriving in Tokyo. The service is particularly aimed at those who struggle to build stable everyday lives, including with basics such as opening a bank account or getting a mobile phone. It is available in 15 languages, including simple Japanese, and interpretation can be arranged. Consultations can be up to one hour in length. For Ukrainian evacuees, a one-stop consultation center has been established to help them integrate into life in Japan.
The goal is to tackle feelings of isolation and enable everyone to seek advice with peace of mind. If you know someone who needs assistance, please ask them to contact TMC Navi.
