Former President Donald Trump denied having any “tension” with Joe Rogan after he fantasized about the podcaster being booed at UFC events in a Truth Social podcast.

In an interview with Lex Fridman released Tuesday, Trump was asked about the “bit of tension” between him and Rogan. Earlier this month, Trump posted that it would be “interesting” to see how badly Rogan gets booed at his next UFC event — Rogan is a longtime fight commentator. Trump’s post followed Rogan saying on his podcast that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was the only 2024 presidential candidate who “makes sense” to him. Rogan stopped short of a full endorsement, but some critics took his words as exactly that.

Kennedy Jr. has since endorsed Trump. Fridman called Trump’s response to Rogan “unfair.”

“I think that was a bit unfair and as a fan of Joe, I would love to see you do his podcast because he is legit the greatest conversationalist in the world. So what’s the story behind the tension?” Fridman asked.

Trump said he is unsure about doing Rogan’s podcast and only knows the comedian and podcaster through their brief interactions at UFC events and mutual friend UFC President Dana White.

“I don’t think there was any tension. I’ve always liked him, but I don’t know him. I only see him when I walk into the arena with Dana and I shake his hand. I see him there and I think he’s good at what he does, but I don’t know about doing his podcast. I guess I’d do it but I haven’t been asked and I’m not asking them. I’m not asking anybody,” he said.

Trump went on to call Rogan “sort of liberal,” and he insisted he “likes” that Rogan backs Kennedy, a politician Trump described as a “different kind of guy.”

“He’s sort of a liberal guy, I guess, from what I understand, but he likes Kennedy and this was before Kennedy came in with us,” he said.
