  • If you build it! 🌈💻 We had so much fun partnering with Out in Tech for the latest Digital Corps Build Day. Since 2017, we’ve sponsored Out in Tech to create opportunities for its 80,000-plus members, advance their careers, grow their networks, and leverage tech for social change. Our latest hackathon last Saturday was no different. 50 volunteers came together at our NoHo Space to build five new multilingual websites for LGBTQ+ organizations, all hosted on WordPress.com. These tools are life-changing for teams providing medical services and legal aid in areas that need them most. Check out some of the snaps below! 📝Learn more about joining us in NYC for the next build day on July 11: https://lnkd.in/dkGg6m-E

  • How much of your daily news feed actually impacts your commute, your local schools, or your neighborhood’s future? Automattic is proud to sponsor the inaugural Local News Day on April 9. National news has never been so important, but the newsrooms covering city hall and local zoning boards are the ones who keep our communities functioning. We–along with co-sponsors Newspack and WordPress.com–are helping bridge the gap between readers and the journalists doing the work. In addition to sponsoring this event, we created a Newsroom Locator Tool to cut through the noise and find original reporting happening right in your zip code. 🔗Learn more about Local News Day: https://lnkd.in/eydWVF2K 🔗Sign up to get involved: https://lnkd.in/eRyC5RpE  🔗Access the Newsroom Locator Tool: https://lnkd.in/eeUf-KP3

Automattic has been there with me, though some of the most important parts of my adult life; my marriage, the births of my children, and medical leave. While work is work, the philosophy and caring behind this company is rare to be seen elsewhere.

Work-life balance is often a buzzword, but for an Automattic employee, it was a lifeline. Manzoor Ahmad, a code wrangler on our Triforce team, recently shared how our six-month paid parental leave became his lifeline when his son was born prematurely at 32 weeks. For Manzoor, this wasn't just a corporate benefit; it was the ability to spoon-feed his "tiny creature" for four months, to cook for his wife during her recovery, and to navigate a medical crisis without the stress of lost income. Unlike standard policies, we offer flexibility. Manzoor was able to split his leave, using the first half for the initial crisis and the second half for a much-needed family celebration once his son was healthy. At Automattic, we believe leave policies should support real families in real moments—especially when life doesn't follow a plan. We build the web, but we prioritize the people behind it. Our parental leave policy meant Manzoor could stop "wrangling code," as he aptly puts it, and start wrangling a recovery for his family. Read the full story of his journey: https://lnkd.in/egBB_DFR

Meet Cora + Spink. Most businesses start with a blank canvas. For Tim Johnson, it was an idea to make plant-based, sustainable backpacks, bags, and accessories out of canvas. The UK-based company has been growing with WooCommerce since 2014, when Tim built the first version of the site on WordPress. It’s grown and changed over the years, as has the business. Today, they’re selling about 20k bags and bringing in £250k each year. And they’re only growing from here. • Thank you, NYC! 🗽 March’s dev/ai/nyc event at our NoHo Space made for a truly memorable evening. A huge thank you to Stephen Wolfram for his visionary discussion with Matt Mullenweg, and to all of the attendees who brought their curiosity and expertise to the packed house. We believe the future of applied AI is synonymous with the future of open source, and this community continues to prove it. • Today, we run the open web in more ways than one. 🏃🌎 At Automattic, we often say our work is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s literally the case with our "The Sun Never Sets" 5K relay. With a distributed team across 82 countries, this 24-hour event is a reminder that someone, somewhere, is always running—much like our open-source products do all year. The 10th edition of our relay is today, and we have a dedicated landing showcase for each participant where they can share… 🏃Route and location 🏃Run time 🏃Their culinary fuel of choice 🏃A mid-run photo (a few can be found below!) Run, don’t walk, to our landing page with all the employee spotlights: https://a8c5k.run
