Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Never read the book, went in blind
Another reviewer stated those giving high scores must be fans of the book. I'm not, never read it or thankfully non of the reviews on here prior to taking the plunge.
See, as I'm usually the sort to despise pretentious garbage and the usual crowd of "intellects" that sing its praises to the rest of us lowly peasants; I tend to give more credence to honest reviews (most of which these days seem low).
Most 9 or 10 star reviews on IMDB are from cast/crew of the films or their families/friends.
On this occassion however, I'm genuinely surprised at the negativity for this show.
This isn't a show I would usually go for but there was nothing else on and so I went for it. I'm five episodes in and find that despite it being a slow burning mystery and tale of intrigue, it actually does have a decent pace and isn't filled with long moments of artsy staring into the camera, deafening silences or angled shots of inanimate objects.
Another reviewer stated Melissa Mcarthy is the only decent act in this show....?
Erm, what? Whilst she definitely is great in this, they're all decent performances. Michael Shannon's is fantastic.
Others saying Nicole Kidman's character is "strange", "weird", "like an alien" etc......
I'm sorry for this but you're showing your IQ levels up a bit here; as she's MEANT to be like that....that's the POINT!
Her accent? Meh......but I'm not gonna get hung up about it. She's not the first to mess up an accent, nor will she be the last. If you're the sort to let one little thing ruin everything for you, then good luck with that I guess.
Overall I laughed out loud a few times and got a lump in my throat on others.
I may be getting more soppy over my years but I find the gradual bond between the characters to be heart warming too.
All the while the plot thickens and the boiling pot simmers in the background.
I'm enjoying it a lot and I'm usually a tough-to-please member of the audience......
Each to their own though......
The Guest (2014)
Garbage
Many movies require a suspension of disbelief, but this requires one to have no brain whatsoever.
I think it's safe to say by now that most good reviews on this site are from cast and production staff of the movies themselves.
I refuse to believe anyone with intelligence and integrity would say this movie is anything but the utter trash that it is.
I could go into a long list of all that is bad in this diabolical waste of celluloid but I really feel that time has already been stolen from me.
Avoid.
The Perfection (2018)
Yet more Netflix garbage.
I'd say this is like a production made by a bunch of privileged, sheltered college kids. Cheesy acting, pointless storyline and an over-the-top attempt at being edgy. It seems Netflix and their constant agenda pushing and "Biased political commentary" really have reached new lows.
I tell you what though, they certainly show their hypocrisy by stereotyping the Chinese in such a terrible way. That isn't very PC of you now is it Netflix?
Truly a steaming pile of garbage that I'd rate in negative figures if possible on here.
-4 out of 10.
Flowerman (2014)
Don't listen to the friends and family of the cast and crew.
I really do think the rest of the family members and friends of the cast that are obviously reviewing this film, should have bad things occur to them for their dishonesty. I'd like to say this is utter garbage but that really would be unfair on the garbage. In fact, given the choice between watching this or sitting down and staring at a pile of rubbish in silence for 80-odd minutes I'd take the latter without question. It should be made a crime for films like these to be created in the first place. Everybody involved should hang their heads in shame.
Don't Fuck in the Woods (2016)
A mystery more than a horror.
I had to give it one star because zero isn't an option. I really don't know what to say, that hasn't already been covered by the other reviewers other than, this movie left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Such as: Who the hell makes these films? Why? How? Surely the production cost outweighs the incoming revenue? Who signs off on it's production? Are they proud of their work? Do they have any concept of shame? Is it an inside joke nobody gets the punchline to? Who are these humans? Are they some bored affluent people taking the Micky out of Hollywood? Are they even human? The list really does go on. The mystery will forever baffle me. Yet oddly depresses me too.
Jug Face (2013)
Awful
A lot of people are calling this an "indie gem" a "low budget masterpiece" etc. It really isn't. It has no suspense, no great shocks, no character development and seems to meander along to a complete dead end. IMDb ratings are so awash with crew members and their relatives input that it can be classed as nothing but fraudulent behaviour on their part. After reading great reviews to this film, I went against my better judgement and decided to give it a whirl. There's 81 mins of my life completely wasted. It is true that mainstream horror movies are saturated with generic plot lines and are predominantly aimed at the easily entertained, and on paper at least, the premise of this story may well seem unique and intriguing in comparison, but the director or the cast never lived up to it. Half way through I actually wish I had put an aforementioned Hollywood trash movie on. Yep I said it. If you want to watch it, go right ahead. But please, don't let half of the liars on these exemplary reviews sway your opinion. If you do decide to watch it, stream it online for free, I'd be seriously p****d off if I'd spent a penny watching this drivel.
Z Nation (2014)
Barrel loads of fun.
I have watched the walking dead series and I really enjoyed it immensely.
I watched this, with the false and (I admit it) a somewhat biased opinion, thinking it wouldn't and couldn't, possibly compare.
I was wrong. What a great load of fun to watch. I actually liked the depth of some of the characters, but not all. This is what made this show great. 10K the Doc and Murphy were absolutely great characters, but some I liked and hated, then liked again along the way.
Good stuff deserves to be appreciated, this by me anyway, definitely was.
