Many well-known Canadian TV personalities have cameos in this film, including five members or former members of the popular comedy troupe Royal Canadian Air Farce.
Dave Broadfoot's role was originally written for Paul Gross. Gross had to step out due to his commitment with Men with Brooms (2002).
Although the movie was a theatrical spin-off of the very popular Canadian sitcom The Red Green Show (1991), the movie was a huge box office flop in Canada, so much so that distributor TVA International refused to report the box office results to the media.
Filming for the movie took place in Southern Ontario in Spring of 2001. A handful of extras on the movie were not professional film extras, but rather American fans who watched The Red Green Show (1991) on PBS. Likewise, all of the duct tape sculptures seen at the competition were built by fans (apart from Possum Lodge's goose sculpture, and the CN Tower model it lands on, which were constructed by the special effects department).
In the scene where Harold collapses drunk, Patrick McKenna had to repeat the take of him slamming his head on the counter several times. After the day's shooting completed, Patrick McKenna stopped by Steve Smith's house and complained about a bad headache.
