Suraj Kolarkar
- Actor
Suraj Kolarkar is a stand-up comedian and actor, appearing on God's Favourite Idiot on Netflix (alongside Melissa McCarthy) and the Apple TV and Paramount epic Shantaram (alongside Charlie Hunnam) in 2022.
On Saturday November 26th 2016, Suraj got on to stage for his first open mic spot. Thus started a years' long series of bad financial decisions and foolish risks which have panned out more than he ever could have hoped for.
He has performed everywhere from Melbourne Town Hall for SBS to aboard a moving train for Triple M.
With a combination of acute observations and deft storytelling, Suraj weaves a hammock of laughs for the audience to comfortably lie down into. Supremely confident on stage, Suraj goes at his own methodical pace all the while having the audience in the palm of his hand.
Suraj's mum was very unsure about his leaving a permanent position as a civil engineer to move to Sydney for comedy, but after watching an uplifting Bollywood movie about a struggling actor, she had a change of heart.
"Irradiated confidence...well put-together and efficiently written, honed so tightly as to maximise the laughs from clear punchlines" - Chortle.
