Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for The Perfect Couple.
Everything is not what it seems in the wealthy Winbury family of Netflix’s The Perfect Couple.
Their Nantucket home is pretty much the only idyllic thing about them, viewers will learn in the six episodes of the series, directed by Susanne Bier and adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s novel by Jenna Lamia. Several key changes — big and small — take the show in a different direction than Hilderbrand’s book.
For name changes, entirely new characters and other different plot points in the show vs. the book, read more below:

Eve Hewson’s bride-to-be, Amelia Sacks in the show, is named Celeste Otis in the books. Isabelle Adjani’s French family friend Isabel Nallet also goes by a different name in the novel — Featherleigh Dale, and she is from London in the book, not France. Gosia, the Winbury’s housekeeper,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 5, “Home Invasion.”] Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) says goodbye to a couple of new people in her life in the latest 9-1-1 episode, one as a result of the other. First, she finds out that one of the new dispatchers, Noah (Alfonso Caballero), used her log-in to help a team of robbers scope out homes that would be empty with their owners in the hospital after 9-1-1 calls. Then, after that case is wrapped, she goes home and fires Magda (Dendrie Allyn Taylor), the nanny — sorry, house manager — who has been taking over her and Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) home and lives. Hewitt breaks down the episode and teases what’s ahead — including why she’s not too eager for a Maddie-Chimney wedding. Maddie was really tested with bringing new people into her life in this episode. First, let’s talk what happened with Noah. How is she ...

Spoler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched Monday’s episode of Fox’s “9-1-1,” titled “Home Invasion.”
Following a very rough road as of late, “9-1-1” had Maddie Buckley (Jennifer Love Hewitt) firmly in control of her life again this week and making moves that Hewitt didn’t think her character would be capable of in the early days of the Fox first-responder drama.
With Variety, Hewitt discusses Monday’s installment of the show, which saw Maddie deal with trust issues at home — where she and Chimney grapple with the reality of getting a nanny named Madga for Baby Jee-Yun — and in her home away from home, the 9-1-1 call center — where her new recruit makes the twist choice to feed personal info of people with medical emergencies to robbers, and risk Maddie’s career by using her login for the illegal activity.

"Do you think there are people that are just doomed, or cursed?" An official trailer has debuted for an indie drama titled Chasing the Rain, marking the feature debut of filmmaker Cindy Jansen. A photographer desperately tries to fit in and hold on to a decent life he seems to have. But when tragedy suddenly strikes, his unresolved past begins unraveling. He becomes increasingly fearful that something (or someone) must be inflicting ruthless suffering on some people more than others, and he plans an escape. The film's indie cast includes Matt Lanter, William Russ, Hallee Hirsh, Yetide Badaki, Eric Tiede, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Maiara Walsh, Dendrie Taylor, and Cindy Pickett. This looks like the cliche story of someone who is well-traveled and has seen all the bad sides of the world sparring with all the oblivious people back home who can't understand what's going on. I wish this looked better than it does,...

We all know that Ray Romano has had a long and illustrious career in comedy. From his roots as a stand up comedian to his hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, not to mention his voice work in the Ice Age franchise, he’s a legend. Recently, however, he’s begun to show a more dramatic side to his talents. The Big Sick showcased that skill, while this week, he delivers his best performance to date in Paddleton, a Duplass Brothers production that hit Netflix on Friday. It’s a very nice film, with a quiet power to it, and Romano helps to really elevate it. Michael (Mark Duplass) and Andy (Romano) are unlikely friends. Middle aged men, they’re both single, neighbors, and seem to only have each other. Their lives are dominated by simple routine. They watch kung fu movies, they eat pizza, they explain to everyone they meet...

An unwieldy hybrid of “Step Brothers” and “50/50,” Alex Lehmann’s “Paddleton” offers a funny, surprisingly tender portrait of two arrested-development adult men coming to terms with a terminal illness. Ray Romano continues to offer new dimensions to the dumpy everyman characters he could at this point play in his sleep opposite Mark Duplass’ do-nothing cancer patient, while director and co-writer Lehmann (“Blue Jay”) mines a familiar kind of male bond for an understated, unexpectedly powerful payoff.
Duplass plays Michael, a copy-shop clerk with one friend, his upstairs neighbor Andy (Romano). Notwithstanding their separate apartments, the duo spends virtually every free minute together, mostly rewatching the same kung fu movie while eating frozen pizza, but occasionally venturing outside to play an invented sport called “paddleton” which involves hitting a racquetball off of the screen of an abandoned drive-in movie theater into a barrel.

A movie about cancer has no right to be as consistently amusing as “Paddleton” — a triumph for which credit should be spread around, even if it most deservedly goes to Ray Romano. As a bachelor whose best friend is facing his final days, Romano infuses this otherwise downcast material with regular doses of humor, all of it expertly designed to reflect the roiling emotional roller-coaster upon which he’s been thrust. Locating both pathos and comedy in a raft of small grace notes, the film seems primed to find a sizable streaming audience when, after its Sundance Film Festival premiere, it arrives exclusively on Netflix in late February.
Reuniting director Alex Lehmann with his “Blue Jay” collaborator Mark Duplass, “Paddleton” is almost exclusively a two-hander about Michael (Duplass) and his neighbor Andy (Romano), who lives above him in a dingy apartment complex. Michael’s fatal diagnosis is revealed immediately, and...

“Room 104” isn’t like anything else you’ll see on television this year. The new half-hour, genre-bending HBO series features a number of unique facets, but they all relate back, in one way or another, to the creative minds of Mark and Jay Duplass.
The writers, producers, directors, and actors known for breakout independent films like “The Puffy Chair” and “Cyrus” as well as award-winning television like “Togetherness” and “Transparent” have come together to create the latest exciting original series on the Home Box Office network.
Set in a single room in your typical American motel chain, each week tells a different story and all 12 episodes of Season 1 were produced by the Duplass Brothers. The tone, characters, and era can all change week-to-week, and viewers should be ready for drama, comedy, horror, and at the start of each new entry. I know that when I first step into a hotel room, I do the best I can to avoid thinking about all the people who were in there before me – but that’s mainly for hygienic reasons. To say the least, if I was one of the residents of Room 104, there would be other motives for sidestepping those truths.
Borrowing from the psychedelic imagination of The Twilight Zone, the first season of the Duplass Brothers’ Room 104 hosts a compendium of eccentric, gothic tales. Traveling in and out of the realm of reality, the show plays with a whole assortment of diverse characters and situations. Some are relatable, others are not, but all are connected by one common motif: their stay at the sometimes haunting, sometimes dynamic, sometimes hospitable motel room.

Jay and Mark Duplass are creators who don’t like to be put in a box, even if they’re making six hours of television set within the same four walls.
“Room 104,” the new HBO anthology series from the Duplass brothers, tells individual, episodic stories in each of its 12 half-hour installments, and all 12 are set within the same cheap, dingy hotel room. The first episode, which premiered at the Atx TV Festival Saturday evening, is a lot closer to Mark Duplass’ work in indie films “Creep” and “The One I Love” than the brothers’ former HBO comedy.
During a panel discussion following the episode, Duplass said he felt inspired by the constraints of the premise.
“I have something like 218 ideas in a Word document on my computer,” Duplass said.
Noting how it felt like he was back making low-budget indie films, Duplass said he wrote seven of the 12 episodes...

An engaging, well-crafted and mounted drama, "Saving Mr. Banks" is the Golden Jubilee tribute to Walt Disney's 1964 family musical hit, "Mary Poppins".

Multicultural wish-fulfillment narratives are common in American indies, particularly post–9-11. The best, like 2007's The Visitor, keep the maudlin hand-holding to a minimum and allow the complexities of human interaction to do the heavy lifting. Jeremiah Birnbaum's Torn does just that, so when the inevitable camaraderie between unlikely characters develops, it actually feels possible. Maryam (Mahnoor Baloch), a Muslim American, and Lea (Dendrie Taylor), a stereotypically blue-collar Caucasian, meet after an explosion at the local mall has killed their teenage sons. Singularly shared experience quickly bonds the two, until the impending investigation into whether Maryam's mosque-attending son harbored anti-American sentiment ignites an unfortunate blame game. The h...

If there is anything we have learned post-9/11 is that the spectre of threat and the presence of fear can arrive from completely unexpected places. The face of terrorism has moved beyond cliché, with those wishing to lash out for whatever reasons coming from backgrounds that are surprisingly diverse. And it's against this backdrop that "Torn" unfolds. Directed by Jeremiah Birnbaum, from a script by Michael Richter, the film stars Mahnoor Baloch, Dendrie Taylor, Faran Tahir, Sharon Washington, Patrick St. Esprit and John Heard and tells the story of Maryam, an upper-middle class Pakistani immigrant and Lea, a working class mother, whose lives collide when both their sons are killed in what seems like an unfortunate gas line explosion at a local shopping mall. But when the investigation into the incident reveals that Maryam's son may have set off a bomb, their worlds are turned upside down. This exclusive trailer...

FX drama "Sons of Anarchy" has tapped the magic of Der Hoff. David Hasselhoff has a plum guest role on FX's Sons of Anarchy as Dondo, a well-endowed former porn star who is now churning out sleazy girl-on-girl adult films. Wiliam Keck at TVGuide.com scooped the news of Der Dondo - given his break by the late Luanne (Dendrie Taylor). Last season's offbeat casting included author Stephen King as a Harvey Keitel-Winston Wolf "Pulp Fiction" cleaner type pal pf Tig's. King's character was called in to dispose of the dead Guatemalan nurse of Gemma's dad, Alzheimer's afflicted Nate (Hal Holbrook), who was killed in a botched attempt to turn in Gemma.

If you bet that Stephen King’s cameo on Sons of Anarchy’s third season could not be topped in the ‘random’ department, prepare to lose your lunch money. David Hasselhoff, (it’s customary to just refer to him as The Hoff at this point) who is known best to the world as Baywatch’s speedo-wearing lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and also Michael Knight from Knight Rider, has booked a guest spot on the fourth season of the FX biker drama. According to TVGuide, the Hoff will play a sleazy former porn star: “The former America’s Got Talent judge will play Dondo, a well-endowed former porn star who is now making major coin by producing sleazy girl-on-girl adult films. Turns out Dondo was given a major career boost by Luanne (Dendrie Taylor) and gets involved in a little dirty work in her memory.” Could this just be the most brilliant casting ever?...

This is a sentence we did not expect to write this week, or frankly ever: David Hasselhoff will guest-star on "Sons of Anarchy."
But it's true. The Hoff will appear in an episode of the FX drama's fourth season as a character named Dondo Elgarian, a former porn star who's now producing adult films. TV Guide first reported the news, and "Soa" creator Kurt Sutter confirmed it via Twitter.
"Last year, Stephen King, this year 'the Hoff' -- your dose of seasonal ironic guest stars," Sutter wrote. He then added, "Here's the best part ... Hoff and Tom Anrold in the same scene. Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so ..."
Arnold has appeared on "Sons of Anarchy" before, guesting in a pair of Season 2 episodes as porn producer Georgie Caruso -- who, it was strongly suggested, was involved in Luann's (Dendrie Taylor) death. TV Guide says Hasselhoff's character is...

David Hasselhoff is to play a former porn star in the fourth season of FX drama Sons of Anarchy. The former Baywatch actor has won the role of Dondo, a past associate of Luann Delaney (Dendrie Taylor), according to TV Line. After retiring from making on-screen appearances, the "well-endowed" Dondo becomes an adult film producer and is keen to reunite with Luann. Hasselhoff is best known for his roles in Baywatch and classic NBC series Knight Rider. He also enjoyed a brief pop music career in the '80s and early '90s, and has recently served as a judge on both America's (more)...

David Hasselhoff has landed a "meaty role" on "Sons of Anarchy". The former "America's Got Talent" judge is cast a well-endowed ex-porn star, Dondo, who is now making money by producing lesbian adult films.
"Dondo was given a major career boost by Luanne (Dendrie Taylor) and gets involved in a little dirty work in her memory," TV Guide reports. Hasselhoff will turn up on the show in October, while the fourth season premiere is slated for September.
The new chapter will see the gang back in Charming again. "We're out of jail and we're making money. With that upswing, comes all the complications that success and power bring," creator Kurt Sutter previously revealed. What began as a new drama at FX back in 2008 has turned into a worldwide obsession for so many fans. "Sons of Anarchy" is the construct of showrunner Kurt Sutter (The Shield) who also is a player in the Samcro fold. As an actor, Sutter shines as the incarcerated Otto Delaney, who shoulders Christ-like burdens for his brothers. Otto has lost his eyes in jail over "Sons" related business dealings; he has lost his woman Luann (Dendrie Taylor), murdered over a retaliation from Jax's (Charlie Hunnam) attack on porn King Georgie (Tom Arnold), and his freedom, keeping the coda of silence and not helping law enforcement get any further damning intel on his brothers.

David O. Russell's The Fighter is based on the true story of Micky Ward, a stepping-stone boxer, and his older brother Dick Eklund, whose claim to fame was dropping Sugar Ray Leonard several years and many crackpipe hits long ago. Because it's beholden to the framework of Ward's technical boxing style and the fights he fought, the story has a tendency to lag and meander. But what elevates it to championship status is the acting, because it's kind of ecstatically horrifying to watch Christian Bale and Melissa Leo tear themselves and everyone else apart. Ultimately, the family dynamic and the bitter squabble of this destructive family is what makes The Fighter worth watching.
A documentary crew is filming Dick Eklund (Christian Bale) for his supposed comeback. Meanwhile, he's training his kid half-brother Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg), a slugger with a fierce hook who most promoters book to boost their more promising fighters.

A second, very effective trailer for David O. Russell’s “The Fighter”, which definitely doesn’t take any prisoners or pulls any punches when it comes to the very sorry nature of pretty much everyone that surrounds our hero played by Mark Wahlberg. Well, except for the no-nonsense love of his spunky girlfriend played by Amy Adams. See, because our hero isn’t just a fighter in the ring, but he’s a fighter outside the ring, too, being that his family is pretty much all a P.O.S. Or so it seems from this trailer. The Fighter is the inspirational, true story of these two brothers who, against all the odds, come together to train for a historic title bout that will unite their fractured family, redeem their pasts and, at last, give their hard-luck town what it’s been waiting for: pride.
