As we move closer to the end of 2024, now is the perfect time to look back at some of the worst shows of the year. It has been a fruitful year for TV watchers, particularly those who prefer to stream their series. We’ve seen an interesting mix of new shows and the anticipated return of old favorites. Still, this doesn’t mean they have all been winners.
Before we share which shows have been the most disappointing, let’s give recognition to some of the many series we’ve enjoyed the most. At the top of my list, I have Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, Prime Video’s Fallout, and Hulu’s The Bear season 3. I know Netflix’s Baby Reindeer also received a lot of attention, as well as the returning Prime Video favorite, The Boys with season 4. Which shows have made it to your favorites list so far?...

Exclusive: It’s hard not to start at the end when talking to Soo Hugh as Season 2 of her drama series Pachinko draws to a close. The Apple TV+ show follows a Korean family across four generations and takes in both historical events and family drama as the resolute Sunja moves from her home country to Japan. The denouement of the latest season is both satisfying and leaves the audience wanting more. There is still, it feels, some story to be told.
Hugh and her writing team moved beyond the 500 or so pages of the eponymous Min Jin Lee bestseller upon which the series is based for parts of Season 2 — notably within the strand set in late-1980s Japan. Going deeper into the Pachinko story is already top of mind. “Apple has been really generous and supportive and they’ve encouraged us to start thinking about it,” says Hugh. “The...

The McPoyle bloodline has been clean and pure for a thousand years before Liam decided that the dating pool and the gene pool need not be family-only affairs.
On It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, there really aren’t many representations of loving families or meaningful romantic relationships, but, thankfully, the inbred Pennsylvanian tribe known as the McPoyles and their most notable twin sons offer us both simultaneously. Between Charlie’s longtime stalking of and eventual consummation with the Waitress, Dee’s dozens of plow partners, Frank’s deceased whoo-ur fiancee, Mac’s love-hate relationship with his own sexuality and Dennis’ entire arc with Mauree–er, Bastet, the Paddy’s Pub Gang can’t count a single happy, mutually fulfilling romantic relationship among them, making Liam and Ryan McPoyle’s “brotherly love” the longest-lasting and most caring relationship on the entire show. But it’s not exactly monogamous, as their sister can attest.

Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror is back for season 7 and the cast – Paul Giamatti! Rashida Jones! – has been confirmed.
As we’re not far off time of year where we rewatch our festive favourites, special mention has to go to White Christmas., the Black Mirror episode which must surely be a contender for the most upsetting Christmas special in history, featuring as it does the concept of blocking people in real life and a final scene with a concept too horrifying to imagine.
Beginning as a drama on Channel 4 in 2010 before moving to Netflix from series 3 in 2016, so far six series worth of twisted tales have come from the unrelentingly dark imagination of Charlie Brooker. From AI to memory chips, futuristic societies to an interactive special, Brooker’s pen has thus far always been prescient, predicting many developments in technology that have actually come true.
The seventh season is now in production for Netflix.

“Black Mirror” Season 7 is on the way next year, and Netflix has released a teaser trailer this afternoon that seems to hint at episode storylines while also revealing the full cast.
“Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series is already in production on six brand new episodes for Season 7, which will stream on Netflix in 2025,” Netflix recently announced.
The streamer continued, “Brooker and the Black Mirror creative team aren’t giving away any specific spoilers, but they are teasing one major nugget of information: One of the episodes will be a sequel to the now-classic Season 4 opener, USS Callister.”
“The high-profile episode starred Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly, a brilliant but troubled programmer who co-founded a popular online video game,” Netflix recaps. “Unhappy with a perceived lack of recognition at his gaming company, Robert created a simulated reality within the game, giving himself the role of a Captain Kirk–like...

A seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror will be making its way to the Netflix streaming service sometime in 2025 – and while episodes of the show have branched out into different genres as it has gone along, during an interview with Deadline, series creator Charlie Brooker said that the episodes of Black Mirror season 7 will be like the “Og Black Mirror.”
Brooker said, “We’re doing some things we’ve not done before. People can expect quite a lot of emotion and, hopefully, a good mix of chills. We did a couple of horror stories in Season 6, which we label as Red Mirror. But this time around, the episodes are all, in a way, like Og Black Mirror. I wrote one script, and the general consensus was that it was one of the bleakest, heaviest gut punches yet. There’s also techy episodes and ones that are making people cry.

Everyone knows Apple TV+ for Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Severance. There have been a few other popular TV shows sprinkled in over the last few years. Presumed Innocent starring Jake Gyllenhaal had some good buzz recently. Despite Apple TV+’s substantial investment into the TV business, it’s still looking for mainstream hits.
And, let me be clear. I am a fan of Apple TV+. I appreciate how many TV shows with huge stars the streamer is cranking out these days, but it’s just so odd that almost no one is talking about these great shows!

Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on...

The first season of the Joel Edgerton/Jennifer Connelly sci-fi thriller Dark Matter became a huge hit for Apple TV+. In the review from our own Alex Maidy, he glowed, “There are so many great angles this story takes that are unconventional for a series like this that discovering them from episode to episode enhances the experience of this story. Based on the cast alone, Dark Matter is worth checking out. Apple TV+ continues to excel as a home for creative expansions in the science fiction genre, but Dark Matter may be their best project since Severance. […] I cannot think of a better way to parse out this great tale that will have audiences theorizing week to week about what will come next.”

Apple TV+, which has built out a sizable lineup of sci-fi series, is doubling down on one of those shows.
The streamer has renewed Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, for a second season. The pickup comes not quite two months after the show’s nine-episode first season concluded in late June.
Dark Matter, from Sony Pictures TV, is based on a best-selling novel by Blake Crouch, who also serves as showrunner on the series. Edgerton stars as Jason Dessen, a physicist, professor and family man who, while walking home in Chicago, is abducted into an alternate version of his life and has to piece together how to get back — and who’s trying to prevent him from doing so. Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley also star.

Apple TV+ viewers might get the chance to finally find out how Dark Matter’s interdimensional travel works and which universe the main characters ended up in after the streamer renewed the sci-fi drama for a second season.
The tech company has handed Dark Matter, which stars Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, a sophomore season after its nine-episode, first season ended in June.
However, Blake Crouch, author of the book that the series is based on and creator, showrunner and executive producer of the series, will have to come up with new stories as there is no source material on the bookstands.

Here we see lovers Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho) and Sunja (Minha Kim) reunite in war-torn Osaka, Japan in 1945 as businessman Solomon (Jin Ha) continues to wrestle with his identity in 1989 Tokyo. Check it out:
How about that 'Viva La Vida' cover from Blackpink's Rosé? That's sweeping, epic, bold, and emotional right there! And the trailer ain't half bad, either. The first series of Pachinko introduced us to Baek family matriarch Sunja,...
