Organisation
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science comprises a governing body and a number of executive services and inspectorates.
Political leadership
Political leadership is in the hands of the Minister of Education, Culture and Science Eppo Bruins and Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Equal Opportunities Mariëlle Paul. A management team is responsible for the civil leadership of the Ministry, with the Secretary General at its head.
Civil leadership
The Management Team for Education, Culture and Science (MT-OCW, Dutch abbreviation) forms the civil leadership of the Ministry. The MT-OCW is responsible for policy-making, which is then immediately implemented by other divisions of the Ministry. In addition, the team lends support to the Ministers in governing the organisation and advises the Ministers on matters of national policy. The Secretary-General is at the head of the MT-OCW, which also includes the Deputy Secretary-General, the four Director-Generals and the Inspector-General of Education.
Secretary-General
The Secretary-General is the Head of the MT-OCW. The SG leads all parts of the Ministry, including government services and inspectorates. The SG carries out his task in accordance with current political policy and is the first political adviser to the ministers.
The current Secretary-General is Mrs. L (Loes) Mulder.
Director-General of Primary and Secondary Education
The Director-General of Primary and Secondary Education is responsible for the Directorates of Primary Education and Secondary Education.
The current Acting Director-General of Primary and Secondary Education is Mrs. Mr. Drs. I.J. (Inge) Vossenaar.
Director-General of Higher and Vocational Education, Science and Emancipation
The Director-General of Higher and Vocational Education, Science and Emancipation is responsible for the Directorates of Higher Education and Student Grants, Adult and Vocational Education, Research and Science Policy and Emancipation.
The current Director-General of Higher and Vocational Education, Science and Emancipation is drs. F.A. (Feite) Hofman.
Director-General of Culture and Media
The Director-General of Culture and Media is responsible for the Directorates Media and Creative Industry, Heritage and Arts and International Policy. The current Director-General of Culture and Media is Mrs. B. (Barbera) Wolfensberger.
Director-General of the Education Implementation Service
The Education Implementation Service finances and informs participants in education and education institutions.
The current Director-General of the Education Implementation Service is Mr. Ing. H.A. (Harmen) Harmsma
Inspector-General of Education
The Inspectorate of Education monitors the quality of education in primary, secondary and vocational education, as well as adult education.
The current Inspector-General of Education is Mrs. Mr A. (Alida) Oppers.
The Cultural Heritage Inspectorate
The Cultural Heritage Inspectorate ensures compliance with the law and promotes improvements to the management and care of cultural heritage. The Inspectorate consists of three divisions: division Archaeology, Archives and Collections (including Cultural goods). The Director of the Inspectorate is Drs. S.E.B. (Barbara) Siregar.
