It was so good to get back to Sanctuary, Tennessee, and hang out with Erin Delaney, Kaely Quinn-Hunter, and Police Chief Adrian Nightengale again!

This time, the cases include best-selling authors and a serial killer whose murders are copied from novels.

I enjoyed the reminder about the extent of God’s love and a plot that kept me guessing right to the last page. I’m a big fan of Nathan Fillion and used to watch ‘Castle’, so when I saw the inspiration for this plot, I was all in. I remember the first episode (Flowers For Your Grave) where there was a copycat killer mimicking scenes from Castle’s books.

Mehl writes great suspense, weaves in her faith thread to highlight the dark content, and manages to hold my attention from cover to cover.

Grab a package of Mallomars, lock your doors and windows, and settle in for a nail-biting, suspenseful, twisty race to discover and capture the copycat killer before another innocent life is taken.

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I really love this series by Nancy Mehl. The unique characters, settings and mysteries keep me reading. I loved the writer connection in the mystery as well as the main character who struggled with anxiety and following her faith journey. The side characters were such an encouragement and really showed God's love.

“I was only nine years old when I knew I was destined to be a serial killer.”

And with that stunner of a first line, we are off on the thrilling and twisty ride that is Dark Design by Nancy Mehl! Every time I pick up a Mehl novel, I know I’m diving into a book I won’t be able to put down until I’ve assured myself there are no more words – and no more surprises – waiting on the next page. True to form, Dark Design kept me fully engrossed all the way through. What I don’t usually expect to do though is boohoo, yet I absolutely found myself wiping away tears more than once in this novel, thanks to Mehl’s exquisite depiction of the Gospel in action. I know I will be reflecting on those moving scenes for a long time to come. (And y’all know I don’t usually like stopping my stories for ‘sermons’, so when I tell you that the longer spiritual conversations in this one are completely worth the quasi-pause in the plot, you should know it’s special.)

I wasn’t sure how or if Erin Delaney would end up spending time with Kaely Quinn-Hunter in this second book of the series, but I was eager to find out… and boy, did Mehl come up with a riveting reason for them to be in the same space again. A serial killer is mimicking the murders from popular suspense novels, including Erin’s, so she heads to Virginia at Kaely’s request to lend her insights as well as to be interviewed by the task force (which includes Kaely’s hubby Noah – yay!). But if you’re disappointed, thinking that this means swoony Sanctuary police chief Adrian Nightengale won’t get much page time, cheer up! We actually get a lot of time with Adrian, thanks to a twisty subplot of his own. I like Adrian almost as much as I do Erin, so getting to hang out with him too, even though Erin isn’t in Tennessee for the majority of the book, made my day! Let me tell you, though… I was sooooooooooooo sure I had the bad guy(s) figured out, only to discover that I was simultaneously completely wrong AND completely right. Haha! Mehl’s plotting prowess is complexly layered and full of unexpected twists and turns, and I’m pretty sure I quit breathing at one point because I was so absorbed in the suspense.

Bottom Line: Dark Design is Nancy Mehl doing what she does best – keeping me glued to the pages, holding my breath, and second-guessing every theory I thought I had. It’s twisty, emotional, and full of truth that lingers long after the adrenaline fades. Erin and Kaely once again make such a compelling friend duo, and Mehl skillfully balances the action, emotion, and spiritual depth with the steady hand of a storyteller who knows exactly where she’s leading you… even when you don’t (but think you do). The result is a riveting, heart-stirring read that grips your mind and your heart in equal measure, from the first word to the very last.

What a complicated mystery that friends Erin and Kaely have before them now! Not only is a killer using a stories that Erin and others have authored, but someone is claiming that Erin is not the author of her award winning books at all.
With her life in danger, Erin travels to Virginia so she can team up with Kaely and stay safe while trying to solve the puzxle.
This intriguing, sometimes confounding story has romance that sizzles between Erin and police Chief Adrian Nightengale. It includes a strong faith thread with a stirring scene that speeds Erin along in her spiritual journey.
This story was riveting right up to its stunning conclusion.
I look forward to more great writing in book three of this suspense filled series.

I was hooked by the premise of a serial killer using suspense novels as inspiration for his/her method of murder. Nancy Mehl is a master at parceling out clues in an expertly plotted story. This is a wonderful blend of suspense and gore, but also a story of grace and redemption. I really liked the way the author told the story from the POV of Erin, Kaely, Adrian and the villain.

I loved the character growth in Erin, as she slowly steps back into the world again. When we first met her in book one, she had barely left her home after a traumatic event led to her leave a position as a police officer. Her friendship with Kaely Quinn, a gifted profiler, leads her to use her skills in a different way, manifesting as an author of suspense. But now, a serial killer used her book as inspiration for a gruesome murder. She draws upon her strengths, pushing fears aside, as she joins forces with her friends to stop the murderer before he/she strikes again.

The author masterfully weaves an overarching subplot of friendship, faith and hints of a possible romance throughout the books in the series. While each can be read as a standalone, I recommend readers begin with book one. I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

Completed: Oct. 25/25

Series: The Erin Delaney Mysteries, #2
Format: audiobook owned (Audible)
narrator: Stephanie Einstein - good with a majority of characters, but lacked with a few
Challenge Prompt: Best Reads’ Holiday Bingo — “Star or night sky on the cover” — night sky

Book #140 of 2025: This series is so good. I liked this one even a bit more than book one.

If Erin has not been through enough, here comes trouble again! Erin is called to go and stay with her friend Kaely, and her husband, for her own safety. Of course, a chance to revisit those characters from a past series is a big plus. Erin has a woman accusing her of stealing her book ideas on one hand. On the other, there is a person called the “Novel Killer” who has patterned a murder after Erin’s first suspense novel.

Erin has gone through a lot in recent years and she naturally feels overwhelmed and afraid with these two new threats. Kaely continues to share her faith since Erin has come very close to making a decision to accept Christ.

The author makes you work to follow the clues, twists, and turns. What I appreciate is that there is a good balance between the high drama and suspense with the quiet moments of conversation and every day life. Though here are surprises and such, the author doesn’t need to bend over backward to lead the reader down a path and then pull the rug over and over. It just flows and it makes sense. She keeps you guessing. I did figure out some of it but wasn’t sure until it was revealed.

The writing is intelligent and not manipulative. This novel kept me engaged from start to finish. The audiobook narrator was good but not great. The ending was really strong.

I have read just about everything Nancy Mehl has written and I have to say this is the best book I have ever read by her. With some authors I can guess who the villain is but I had no idea who the unsub was until the person was revealed. I loved the redemption a character in the end. Highly recommend this book for those who enjoy the Christian suspense/thriller genre.

Oh my gosh I couldn't put it down! Very well written story that I read all day but switched to a romantic comedy at night so I could fall asleep! This second installment of The Erin Delaney Mysteries can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading them in order. The mystery is standalone, but the continuing relationships are ongoing in the series.

Erin Delaney is notified by her friend Kaely Quinn-Hunter, a former FBI profiler, that a serial killer has imitated the murder portrayed in her latest novel. There are other murders based on books by different authors. Erin is wanted to come in for questioning and consulting on this case. For her safety, she stays with Kaely and her husband Noah.

The story alternates between the points-of-view of Erin, Kaely, Adrian and the serial killer.

Author Nancy Mehl knows how to rachet up the suspense and keep you guessing until the very end. Readers will encounter nail-biting suspense, spiritual conversations, learning to trust God, twists & turns, a little bit of romance, and the unexpected. I could not put it down!

Recommended to avid readers of suspense thrillers, you will not be able to stop turning pages!

The newest book by Nancy Mehl is an Erin Delaney thriller that had my heart pounding and my head spinning with the fast-paced action and the surprising twists. I have read most of the author’s books and I just have to say that this book is her best one ever! I could not put it down except to eat and catch a few hours of sleep. I was totally invested in the story, in what would happen to Erin, in who the serial killer was and in how Kaely and Erin would be able to find the killer before he killed again. The plot is terrifyingly brilliant and includes the signature and much appreciated faith foundation of the author. The story is edgy and includes a strong message of hope as well as plenty of skillful misdirection. I was captivated by the characters and their God-given intuition that helped them make wise choices while chasing down a determined and intelligent villain. This book was a page turner, with dynamic characters who are realistically flawed and believable. The good guys are easy to cheer for and the killer is one that is complex and satisfyingly revealed. I loved every minute that I spent devouring this well-crafted book and I am already looking forward to the author’s new Erin Delaney book next year. If I could give this book more than five stars, I certainly would because it is amazing in its clever twists and relentless tension.

I truly wish I had DNF’d this book.

I hate to give such a terrible review, especially because I’ve read Nancy Mehl’s books for years. But I could tell from the first page that I wasn’t going to care for this one, and I struggled getting through it. As I thought about it, there were three major issues I had with this book:

1) The writing. I don’t feel like this book was written very well. The author did more telling than showing, and some of what she told the readers didn’t even seem relevant to the story. You can tell it was just from her research or her writing experience. A lot of the dialogue did not sound natural.

2) The characters. Despite these characters being supposedly some of the best behavioral analysts out there, they were fooled by people multiple times, and I honestly felt like they just made stupid decisions throughout the story. I didn’t feel like any of them had authentic personalities either.

3) The faith. While I appreciate a Christian book integrating authentic faith in the story, the faith aspect in this book was so heavy handed, and honestly, I found much of it unbiblical. Several times, it’s described that the Holy Spirit has shown or told someone something in a way that I don’t believe is biblical, and one of the character’s methods of “talking” to an UNSUB really feels more like witchcraft than a Christian practice (esp. when she has to rebuke some dark presence in the middle of doing it). Additionally, it is said almost verbatim that God is not in charge of everything, which is wildly unbiblical. And I didn’t appreciate that (SPOILER ALERT) the serial killer who violently murders four people and attempts to kill two more just happens to claim Christ right before they die and is shown to be in heaven. I get what the author was trying to convey, but it felt very unrealistic.

While I have enjoyed Nancy Mehl’s books in the past, I (clearly) did not enjoy this one and would not recommend it. I’m not sure if I will continue reading her books in the future.

Okay, rant over. Time to find a better book to read.😅

Thank you Bethany House Publishers for sending me a copy of this book. All thought and opinions above are my own.

This is such a good story . I loved the way Ms.Mehl weaves faith, forgiveness and God's love into the storyline. The slow build -up and suspense was keeping me on my toes.
I loved how Erin & Kaely kept in touch and are true friends.

Nancy Mehl never fails to deliver stories that will draw you in and keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish... and this one was absolutely no exception. Right from the first page, this one absolutely draws readers in... giving us a glimpse inside the mind of a killer, adding an extra layer of creepiness that takes this story to the next level. As an avid reader, I always enjoy books that feature authors or bookish characters/themes... but a serial killer using suspense books as the blueprint to carry out their murders? Well, that was a new one... this was such a great storyline, executed brilliantly with all the twists and turns that I find enjoyable in a suspense read. In the midst of that darkness though, we're also given a beautiful message of faith throughout the story too, keeping it from feeling too heavy despite the subject matter. If you enjoy Christian suspense, this is absolutely one to add to your TBR.

Dark Design is the second book in the Erin Delaney Mysteries series. While I do think those who have read the previous book will have a better understanding of Erin's history, I do think you could likely enjoy this one as a standalone without any problems.

This author actually did it. The first book in this series really wowed me, but this one was even better, in my opinion. Though the whole Dolly Parton theme in the first book really cracked me up.

Dark Design has a terrific plot: a serial killer killing women just like they were killed in books by different authors. Mehl really knocked it out of the park with this one. And the sly author pulled a bit of misdirection that I fell for, hook, line, and sinker. As with the first book, the author pulled Kaely Quinn Hunter from a previous series, and also her husband in this book, and I loved that. The two of them being part of the story added a lot to it. I really liked both characters from the Kaely Quinn Profiler Series, and love that the author is including them in this series.

Another thing I liked: Adrian, the police chief of Erin's town, is still in the book quite a bit, even with Erin staying with the Hunters. The action and suspense is mostly where Erin is, but the author bounces back and forth a bit between the two locations and the two characters. Mehl's last several series have little romance in, but I predict Erin and Adrian will get together in the last book. Especially now that Erin..... (read the book to find out).

There was plenty of suspense in this book to keep me happy, and I also loved the spiritual side of the story. When the series starts, and also this book, Erin is not a Christian. Adrian, Noah, and Kaely are. Mehl did a great job of sharing the Gospel in this story.

And lastly, the killer. I won't even give any hints, but I will just say I was totally shocked, and had no idea until right before something happened. I saw it coming, and laid my book down and said out loud...".....is the killer! I never saw that coming!" What a surprise. And man, did everything come out alright in the end in a simply awesome way.

Mehl proves again that it is very possible to write a thriller/suspense novel with an evil killer and bring the Gospel in and make it a redemptive story. Can't wait for #3.

Special thanks to the author for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Nancy Mehl is an amazing author. Reading her books is like watching a continuous movie. You just pick up where you left off from the last book. You can't wait until the next book comes out and you don't want the series to end. I thought I knew who the bad guy was but there's a BIG twist I never saw coming. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

Erin Delaney is a former police officer who had a bad experience on the job, and because of the experience, she's now a mystery writer. A lot of times when we get hurt or scared, we try to run away from our problems. Most of the time if we don't deal with issues, they have a way of finding us. Her best friend Kaely Quinn-Hunter is an ex-FBI profiler who helped law enforcement find murderers. She helps Erin with research for her books. The case the FBI is working on has them stumped. Kaely’s husband, Noah is a FBI agent who asks for Erin’s help. It's an odd case because the killer takes scenes from murder mysteries and copies the killings. One of the books the killer copies is Erin's. The problem is that the killings are not connected to each other. They have different characteristics, yet they all do have one theme in common, but it's so off the wall that it makes no sense. Sometimes we overlook things that are right front of us because we think the obvious is too easy.

Erin is fighting her own demons. She has been running from God for years because she has been disappointed a lot. She has to figure that God is the only one who will not disappoint her.

To see if Erin stops running from God and her past, to find out what the common theme is and why it makes it hard to connect the killings together, to see if Noah, Kaely, and Erin make sense of this killer's mind before someone else dies...... you have to read the book. Happy Reading!

Goodness, what a chilling start to book 2 in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘳𝘪𝘯 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘔𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴! Perfect October read if you like mildly creepy, nail-biting murd3r mysteries. (Can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting with book 1, 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺.)

Erin Delaney is settling into her new life in the Smoky Mountains. Although she faces shadows from the past and still struggles with trust issues, she’s editing another book and finally looking forward to the future.

However, her fragile peace is shattered when she hears that someone is copying murd3rs from authors’ books, one of them coming from her own best-selling novel. Erin teams up with Kaely Quinn-Hunter to track down the UNSUB, who leaves behind mysterious things but doesn’t seem to have a signature of their own.

On another front, Erin is receiving threats from someone who claims Erin stole her work. Adrian, Erin’s friend, is keeping tabs on her cabin back home and all is not well. Are all these incidents related? And, should Erin be worried that her own life is in danger?

While the story has several creepy moments, it’s big on faith and friendship. I think that really tempers the suspense element. I don’t think I’ve ever read a thriller quite like this one.

The vibes:

Serial k!ller mimicking crimes in books
No-matter-what friendship
Dog buddies
Light romance
Clearly presented Gospel message
Behind the scenes FBI & police work
Unexpected twists!
Hope and forgiveness

Content considerations: description of murd3r victims, violence, d3ath, PTSD, trauma, suic!dal ideation, stalking

I received a complimentary paperback arc from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I am quite thrilled to see that fictional characters Erin Delaney and Kaely Quinn Hunter are back together again! Someone is using novels as a basis for murdering women and Erin’s book is one that has been set into the killers’ crosshairs. I appreciate that the author is taking a slow approach to the murderous plot and giving us a chance for Erin and Kaely to rekindle their friendship. Kaely and Erin are quite relatable characters, and I did enjoy seeing them reunite and try to flesh out the killer and his motives. I did not see the plot twist that was coming in this masterfully penned suspense! I also appreciated a warm faith thread. This is book two in the Erin Delaney Mystery series, and I do recommend book one, Shattered Sanctuary which sets up the small community and the series nicely.
This is book two in the Erin Delaney Mystery series, and I do highly recommend that you do read Shattered Sanctuary for a groundwork of the friendship between Erin and Kaely. If you loved this novel and especially liked Kaely, then you need to pick up The Kaely Quinn Profiler series starting with Mind Games. I highly recommend this series, it is excellent! This book is beyond brilliant. It is filled with some of my favorite fictional characters and the mystery is tightly woven, and is also filled with thrills and chills. But what makes this book so special is the way the author is able to work an inspirational message into what some would call a dark thriller. Light always dispels darkness, and this author has a gift for proving that in her mysteries.

Novelist Erin Delaney has just learned that someone has taken a murder scene out of her book and made it their own. Erin is still very fragile and is just getting back out into the world after a traumatic experience left her reeling. Law enforcement needs her insight into helping catch this monster.

Erin was working with Kaely Quinn-Hunter, an ex-FBI profiler and friend, along with other law enforcement personnel. Erin had to dig deep and face her own fears in order to get through this time and keep her wits.

Nancy Mehl really turns up the heat in the suspense department with this one. The creep factor is definitely high, and the twists are enough to give you whiplash. I suspected everyone at some point and time, but I was so wrong with my assumptions.

This might be my favorite book by this author. Now I anxiously await the next book in this fabulous series.

Well, this is certainly different from this authors normal writing. Dark, kind of scary but it definitely keeps you on your toes. And looking over your shoulders. I finished this one in one evening because Erin Delaney and Kaley Quinn-Hunter wouldn't let me put their story down.
This plot kept me guessing all the way through. That's just how good Mehl is.
I loved the gentle reminder of God's love throughout this book. He's always there no matter what!
One thing that stood out to me because it's true in real life too. People sometimes don't appear to be who they actually are. You can't trust people. Same in real life. People are sometimes a sheep in wolf's clothing.
This is a can't put down book! Its fast paced and with lots of twists and turns that I never saw coming. Wow!!!
Of course, there's some less than savory characters that I didn't like.
5 stars for a fornaire roller coaster ride that will leave you thinking about these characters long after the story ends! Wow!! It will also make your hairs stand up on the back of your neck too.
I highly recommend it!

Dark Design is a fantastic second story in Nancy Mehl's Erin Delaney Mystery series! These books bring back Kaely Quinn from Mehl's last series, and the mash-up is perfect.

I love Delaney's character; her quirks and her trauma make her realistic and believable. She comes into her own in Dark Design in many ways: she shows growth and healing, as a main character should, but there's redemption in several ways, as well, and that's great to see.

Mehl's recent books have included supernatural elements, and Dark Design is no exception. I personally enjoy this addition and feel like it takes the entire plot much deeper and complex. Perhaps in contrast to this, however, the faith element is much straightforward. This resulted in much discussion of what it means to be a Christian and could be construed as preachy at times. I really liked the bits of spiritual warfare that this included, though, and all of this became part of Delaney's character arc.

As a fan of suspenseful mystery-thrillers that seriously contrast good and evil, I enjoyed Dark Design, and I can't wait for more Erin Delaney.

Author, and former St. Louis police officer, Erin Delaney moved to the small town of Sanctuary located in the Smoky Mountains seeking a more peaceful existence. She had her border collie, Chester, with her and they had been befriended by the local police chief, Adrien Nightengale and his golden retriever, Jake. After Erin was called to Fredericksburg, Virginia to assist in an investigation into a serial killer, strange things began to happen back in Sanctuary. Was there a connection? Was Erin being targeted, or were the events circumstantial? Readers will enjoy following Erin's investigation along with her friends Kaely and Noah in Virginia and Adrian's miles away.

Nancy Mehl has once again given readers a spine tingling serial killer thriller that surprisingly leads to deep spiritual insights: insights into life after death, into the freedom of living without a spirit of fear, and into the light God brings into our lives when we accept His gift of grace. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Dark Design from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

First, I want to say that this book is pretty dark. For me, I doubt I’ll read more of this author’s books anytime soon if they remain this intense. Definitely more thriller than suspense, in my opinion.

Second, the writing is clunky. Super detailed and lengthy to the point of boredom in some places, and then jumping around and hard-to-follow in others. I kept with the book because it was suspenseful and I couldn’t figure out the ending, but there were sections that were almost painfully over-explained.

Third, there’s a kinda weird self-awareness of the author in the book. Like one of the characters essentially telling a detective that “you can call them an UNSUB, we know what that is.” Or talking about how serial killers don’t just go around modeling their killings after novels, except for in “Castle.” But sometimes “the truth is stranger than fiction, I guess.” All that to say, the book didn’t feel genuine and easy. It felt studied and almost satirical, but not intentionally so.

All opinions are my own. I received an ARC copy courtesy of NetGalley

This book by Nancy Mehl offered more than expected and had me up late at night chasing clues that led me in circles. Dizzying in the most delightful way.

The premise of staging author’s murder scenarios to send a message was spot on but the crowning chill factor for me was the description of the murder in “Grin” that still brings the total creepiness to new heights.

One thing I find most interesting in this series are the characters. An agoraphobic, the daughter of a serial killer, an FBI profiler, and a chief of police. A lot of ways to stir things up in this group which I love.

Somehow amidst the suspense there is a thread of faith that weaves itself seamlessly throughout the story. Whether in a crisis of faith or fully dependent on God’s guidance the journey is real and relatable. I loved this book.

Dark Design by Nancy Mehl is the second book in the Erin Delaney Mysteries series. This story takes place following the first in the series, so I recommend reading the series in order. However, the author does a wonderful job of giving background information to make it a nice stand-alone story. This is an enjoyable well written story that is easy to read and imagine. The story is fast paced and filled with mystery and suspense.

This is such a good story. I enjoyed the relationship Erin and Kaely have and how they care for each other and help each other. I appreciate how nicely the author has touched on the anxiety Erin has and how she is dealing with it. I especially appreciate the message of faith, forgiveness and accepting Jesus that is present in the story. This is a nice story that has twist and turns with multiple mysteries. I was totally surprised at who was behind the murders and why.

This is book two in The Erin Delaney Mysteries series; however, I feel it can easily be read as a standalone. I haven’t read book one and had no issues following along with this story. That being said, I could tell I missed some background and character history, which made it clear this was part of a series. I probably missed a great read as well, so I’ll definitely be going back to read book one, Shattered Sanctuary.

In this book, Erin Delaney and her friend Kaely Quinn-Hunter, a former FBI profiler, are racing against time to solve a mystery before anyone else dies. This case feels so different from all the others, and I loved their friendship as well as the many other characters in the story. Even though this book came to an end, I truly hope there will be more in this series—I’ve fallen in love with these characters and want to see where their stories go next.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Nancy Mehl will take you on an exciting ride every time you open one of her books. Dark Design is no different. Full of suspense it made for the perfect during this hot stretch of weather we are having. (BTW it makes a perfect read no matter the weather)
Erin Delaney finds out a serial killer is using mystery/thriller books to comment murders and one of the books is her runaway best seller. She is still recovering from what happened to end her police officer career and her dream of joining the forensic unit. After being interview, Erin knows she needs to help as much as she can.
With a few twists and turns, Mehl takes the readers on a breath-taking ride full of suspense and surprises. If it has been a while since you have read one of Mehl's books, or if you have never read one, you come should join the fun.

Dark Design is a taut, psychologically rich thriller that works best for readers who enjoy crime stories with layers. If you like your suspense with heart and ethical dilemmas, this one delivers.

With relatable characters, moral tension, and a clever “book within a crime” concept, Dark Design is both entertaining and meaningful — the kind of thriller that keeps readers talking long after the last page. It's also wonderful that we get to revisit characters from other books like Kaely and her husband, and see their story progress.

I receive complimentary books from various sources, including NetGalley, authors, and others. I am not required to write a positive review, and I have not received any compensation for my thoughts.

The second book in the Erin Delaney Mysteries picks up just months after the last one ended. The mystery surrounds a serial killer fulfilling the plots of famous suspense books, and now Erin’s debut novel is discovered to be the blueprint of the most recent murder.
I love to see Jesus’ forgiveness so boldly written and a full Gospel presentation within the pages of this book. With that said, I’m on the fence about some of the Christian walk and other faith elements. They felt like a convenient fill for the plot and sincerity, and the most important issue is there were several times it felt as though it was leaning into modern new age themes.
The mystery was very compelling, and I truly did enjoy the story as a whole, but felt it was important to express my feelings on the questionable faith elements as my reason for only a 3⭐️ rating.

Oh my word! I knew the book would be great because Nancy Mehl wrote it, but it surpassed my expectations! I was glued to the story from the first sentence and couldn't put it down due to the edge-of-your-seat suspense and a villain I didn't see coming (ok, I knew who it was, BUT I didn't know their true identity!!). I loved getting to know more about Erin and the character growth was amazing. Then Alex from the Quantico Files made an appearance and and of course Noah and Kaely were in the book and I loved seeing all of them together! Overall, the book was phenomenal and I wish I could give it more then 5 stars (at least 10!)

I was given this book to read and give an opinion - all thoughts are my own.

Dark Design by Nancy Mehl continues the story of Erin Delaney. I enjoyed learning more about her experiences and struggles. Under threat from multiple enemies, she realizes she has to depend on others, something she’s tried to avoid for years. Erin wants to shut herself away from the world, to keep relationships superficial so she doesn’t risk being hurt. But she’s forced to meet things head on in this book.
I love Kaely and how she treats Erin. After all the evil in the story, things still turn out for good and that’s something I need these days.
I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I love this series. I love this author. Twists and turns and a full gospel message in this one. The only issue I had is, in the Kindle version, the editing needed to be looked at. This is no fault to the author. There was no space between the good guys and the bad guys. the paragraphs were right after each other so it was sometimes confusing as while you read the good guy part, the next paragraph was the bad guys talking. Just saying. Her writing and story telling is top notch if you like suspense. I bought the paperback for my granddaughter for Christmas and the editing was fine. Just the Kindle version.
