NZ4936 : Crimdon Beck eroding dunes, Hart Warren

taken 3 years ago, 3 km from Hart, Hartlepool, England

Crimdon Beck eroding dunes, Hart Warren
Crimdon Beck eroding dunes, Hart Warren
Crimdon beck cuts through the Hart Warren sand dunes below Crimdon House Farm, but then flows along the seaward face of the dunes, eroding them, and entering the sea some way to the south east. Long shore drift tends to push the course of the stream progressively southeastwards and a significant sand bar has built up, whilst the curve of the stream as it finally turns seawards produces erosion on the side nearest the photographer. It's a constant battle between the stream trying to cut down into the beach, and sand being moved by waves and tide.
