Dead tree SE of Boldron village end
The lack of small twigs gives this dead Ash tree a particularly stark outline in the morning sun over snowy meadows. This one is the very last piece of standing timber in an old hedge line still discernible by its ridge line and adjacent ditch, one of many such ridges marking now long hidden boundaries in this large field. Behind the tree to the left are two more hedge lines, more recently abandoned and still possessed of many hawthorns and a small number of healthy Ash trees, but not even faint remnants of any fencing. Livestock and local residents wander at will across these old field boundaries. To the right, the southern edge of the field is marked by a more substantial hedge, with double fence and a flowing stream.
