The Runner
The Runner

Commissioned to celebrate the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, the Spirit of Friendship Festival and Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Jubilee. One of the UK's largest bronze sporting sculptures; The Runner by Colin Spofforth reaches 30ft high and weighs 7 tonnes. It was installed in April 2002 at the City of Manchester Stadium. Now that the stadium was become the Etihad Spofforth's sculpture seems as if it has tucked away in a corner but at least it has survived unlike the other Commonwealth Games reminder, the B of the Bang Link
