Western side of Cardiff Bus Station
Buses enter the station at this end. On the left is a bus completing route 33A from Radyr.
This scene is likely to change soon. It was announced at the end of January 2012 that two of Cardiff's leading companies were in talks to build their new 230,000 sq ft headquarters on this site. Cardiff Council were in negotiations with the firms (as yet unnamed because of commercial confidentiality) to sell off a large section of the bus station site. If agreement can be reached, it is likely to lead to the closure of the bus station in September 2012, (after the Olympics) to enable construction of the multi-storey office building to begin. The sale of the land would help fund the long-awaited redevelopment of the whole bus station site, located opposite the northern entrance to Cardiff Central railway station. Cardiff would then be without a bus station for 18 months while its replacement is built on the site of the nearby Marland House and Wood Street NCP car park. Plans have been made for bus routes to start and end at nearby stops in the city centre until the new bus station is available.
