Looking north-eastward.

Newly mowed field drying off before baling. A nice contrast here, north of Oxen Law, between the cultivated land on the left and the open moor of Whitehall Moss on the right. View beyond is to the scattered houses of Waskerley.

The farm road here runs northwards along a broad space between a dry stone wall on one side and a fence on the other. This is relatively high altitude country and moorland lies just out of view beyond the cultivated fields seen here..

This isolated hamlet lies at the end of a lane running west from the A68, a few miles south of Castleside. It is 1100 feet up here and exposed to the weather. It was very cold when I passed through on this snowy March day.

The fence line with its trees divides two fields adjacent to Oxen Law Farm which is out of view to the right of the image.

The route runs north from the buildings at the crossroads at Oxen Fell soon deteriorating into the rutted, pooled mess in the image where it's about to enter the moorland of the Whitehill Moss area, which is just ahead. The track has... (more)

There was something appealing about this group of trees.

On the north side of the road to Oxen Law. The notice is a police one warning of livestock theft in the area.
