Let's take off those judging blinkers

IN MY article in the January 31 issue, I offered my opinion for the reason why mealy redpolls hadn't been more successful on the show bench. Since then, I have visited the North East BB&MC show to judge alongside Francis Brankin.

The mealy redpolls there were particularly strong, with some nice, short, shapely birds on display. They could have done with more colour, but hopefully that will come when more birds are bred with colour in mind.
