  • Lake Tahoe: A National Treasure

    Lake Tahoe is one of the world’s largest, deepest, and clearest mountain lakes—22 miles long, 11 miles wide and in a 501-square-mile watershed. The communities surrounding it depend on the protection of its stunning natural beauty and year-round recreational opportunities. The U.S. Forest Service and state agencies manage nearly 85% of the watershed’s land.

EPA’s Pacific Southwest (Region 9) implements and enforces federal environmental laws in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the Pacific Islands, and 148 Tribal Nations.
