Legislative Affairs

As with other Executive Branch agencies, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission routinely interacts with Congress and has a Legislative Affairs unit in its Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs which represents the Commission to the Congress and other federal government agencies. Legislative Affairs serves as the communications link between the Commission and Congress and the Executive Branch, assists in coordinating internal agency collaborations and ensures sustained, coordinated and consistent legislative outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and respond to Congressional and White House communications and correspondence.
  • Serve as legislative liaison with members of Congress, congressional committees, congressional staff and legislative agencies such as the Government Accountability Office, the Congressional Budget Office and the Library of Congress.
    • In this role, Legislative Affairs coordinates congressional testimony and appearances and meetings with members of Congress.
  • Facilitate communications between EEOC and the public, as well as provide guidance on navigating the governmental process to constituents.
  • Serve as EEOC's intergovernmental liaison for Executive branch agencies, as needed.
  • Track, research and analyze legislation that may impact the laws we enforce.
  • Routinely assist Members of Congress with constituent inquiries.
