Carol J. Hoffman, age 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 5, 2024, due to multiple health complications. She was born in January 1936, in Columbus, Ohio to John and Catherine Forst. She was the youngest of five siblings.

Carol graduated from South High School in Columbus, Ohio and then worked as head teller at Franklin Federal Savings & Loan, where she met her husband, Karl. They enjoyed frequent travel. They cherished their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carol lived in Annandale, VA for 34 years and worked for Fairfax County Government in the foodservice departments at Canterbury Woods Elementary and at Frost Intermediate when her children were in school. Later, she worked for Fairfax County Parks & Recreation at Wakefield Recreation Center where she was like a mom and counselor to the younger staff.

They moved to Centreville, VA 24 years ago. She spent the past 2 years living in an assisted living facility at The Gardens at Fair Oaks in Fairfax, VA and received daily visits from her loving husband, Karl.

Carol had the heart of a servant. She always thought of others first, and she was kind, compassionate, and forgiving. She belonged to the Willow Woods Garden Club for many years, and she loved making flower arrangements. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed volunteer work and even participated as a volunteer at the White House Easter Egg Roll in 2007. She was active in church activities and enjoyed singing in the choir. She and Karl both also played the hand bells.

Carol is survived by her husband Karl of 65 years; sister Rosemary Williams; four children and their spouses: Karen Bender (Jeff), Inge Charnley (Robert), Kurt Hoffman (Lisa) and Erika Perez (Ramon), plus seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, along with many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved dearly. Carol was predeceased in death by her sister, Kathleen Frebault, and her brothers, Leroy and Jerry Forst.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at St. Veronica Catholic Church in Chantilly, VA, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the burial to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA at noon. She will be dearly missed and will be forever in our hearts.
